Thanks for that. I knew they were better than normal potatoes but I'm not familiar with that plan.

I don't want to deviate from what I'm doing at the moment since its working for me, but I'll look into that.

I've been having some roasted radishes when having steak. Add in some mushrooms, a bit roasted tomato and a bit of broccoli and it feels very normal. I chuck some chips with it for my son. He doesn't eat vegetables (autistic food issues) but I'm wondering if he'd eat sweet potato. I've successfully shifted him to brown rice and bread. Lidl do grass fed steak if anyone is interested.

It's much softer than white potato if that would help him?

BigBoysDontCry · 04/05/2023 09:04

Who knows tbh. He didn't eat potatoes of any description until he discovered McDs fries at about age 10- took the next 7 years to gradually move him onto mash 😄

He eats some weird stuff (to me). Happily chomp into octopus but would die if a pea appeared on his plate.

Hello everyone!

I am 9 stone 10 - up a pound. So far I have gone up and down the same pound for five weeks…I really don’t know what to do differently. I think I am getting somewhere and then boom - not really!! My waist is down 2 inches since I started so at least that is some indication of positive change!!

Cherryana · 06/05/2023 09:36

So I just got dressed and actually looked at myself and it would be disingenuous to say just because not thing has changed on the scales nothing has changed. I am starting to look fitter…just keep going…

BigBoysDontCry · 06/05/2023 12:51

I'm just a tiny smidge over 11 stone so nearly 2lb down since Monday. I've had a few days where i've not reached my calorie allowance though as I just couldn't be bothered eating.

BMI app is recommending to go to a BMI of 21 which is about 10' 7 so I think that's what I'll aim for. Blood sugars still stable.

@Cherryana I guess the scales aren't telling the full story? Otherwise are you tracking everything and not missing out little bits that are adding up? Body shape change is definitely good as it sounds like you are taking off the dangerous fat from your waist. Just keep plugging away :)

Cherryana · 06/05/2023 13:34

Well done on your loss!! That is great news! I am going to keep going.

BigBoysDontCry · 06/05/2023 16:43

You are definitely getting benefits, they've just not made their way to the scales yet.

To be honest, the weight loss isn't my motivator. It's getting my blood sugar under control and it's doing that job. I'm noticing my tummy is definitely going down and I'm enjoying the looser clothes. I have been as heavy as 15 stone and was 8' 3 at my lightest as an adult and was still 9'3 into my 30s, but I don't think I've been this light since I had DC in my mid 30s. I'll enjoy getting under 11 I think.

It's the glucose monitor that keeps me on the straight and narrow.

I've just made keto chilli so I'll have mine with shredded iceberg lettuce and a blob of sour cream. I've also made keto chocolate mouse for after. I have my appetite back. Dh is having his with a low carb wrap and DS is having his with some brown rice and probably a wrap as well.

LostaraYil · 07/05/2023 20:25

After a week of ridiculous chocolate and cake consumption because of my birthday I'm getting back into it again. I haven't had the usual whoosh yet, but after 4 days low carb I'm so much less tired. 10st 12 at the moment, last summer I was below 10 and am hoping to get there again by the end of July. There's still enough time for that, right?

BakerLea · 08/05/2023 08:49

I'm 9 stone 10 again this morning
So in the same as you Cherryana
I've been sitting at 9'9/9'10 since beginning April!!
I'm going to make more of an effort to fast for 16 hours I think. And see if I can get to my 9:7 goal finally!!
It's weird because the first time I went on keto I lost 8lbs in the first 3 weeks and kept it off!!
LostaraYil 12lbs in 2 and a half months sounds doable but I'm my experience of loosing it's not been linear. I had my goal as 1 lb per week which my body has never done!! However I've felt better and you will 100% be less bloated, sleeping better , less sugar Cravings by then which has to be a positive

Ps happy birthday 🥂

BigBoysDontCry · 08/05/2023 14:45

10' 13 today, not seen a 10 stone anything in over 20 years.

I also fast 18/6 so maybe the fasting makes a difference too. I do it again because if blood sugars but I mostly fasted (16/8) before anyway so not finding it hard because I guess I don't have the sugar cravings anymore.

Good luck to all for a good week.

Cherryana · 11/05/2023 21:22

All going well so far and I wore a dress today that I looked bumpy in a few weeks ago.

@BakerLea - that happened to me too. The first time I did keto I lost over a stone in six weeks and it stayed off for at least two years. This time it’s not moving so fast. Maybe it will speed up one day?

@BigBoysDontCry thats great news 🎉

BakerLea · 15/05/2023 09:47

Day 2 of intermittent fasting and I'm 9 stone 9
So hopefully I've found the key!!
Down 1 pound since last week.
Was up to 9 stone 12 through my period so just shows the amount t of water fluctuations that can happen in your body.

OP posts:
BakerLea · 15/05/2023 09:49

Also did anyone ready why we eat so much?
He talks about resetting your weight set point and this can only be done with a gradual loss over time so your body adapts, so considering in 2 months I've probably only lost about 2-3lbs of actual fat, I'm hoping this will set my weight set point to just over the 9 stone mark!

Cherryana · 15/05/2023 20:08

Sounds hopeful Bakerlee!

I didn’t get on the scales. I am having a hip replacement this week and so beyond trying to keep inflammation down in my body - weight loss is off the table for a while. I just know I am about to bloat up with all the painkillers..but it will come off again when I start to recover. (I hope!!)

BakerLea · 16/05/2023 16:29

@che
@cherryana hope all goes well with your op this week 🤞
Yes recovery first is most important.
Hows everyone doing?
I ate sweet potato fries yesterday and I'm suffering today with my digestion!!

Hello- I am on the recovery road right now.

Will check back in soon with you all when I am back on it x

BigBoysDontCry · 17/05/2023 21:03

Wishing you the best with your recovery @Cherryana

BigBoysDontCry · 17/05/2023 21:27

I'm still sticking with it but I'm really not feeling good at the moment.

Been like this for a couple of weeks and not sure if it's the diet or to do with the blood sugar/diabetes.

My blood sugars are pretty stable but then I'm on a restricted diet so nothing to really spike them. I've been going a decent walk after dinner as well.

However, my legs are constantly aching and heavy and retaining water in my ankles, it's making it hard to relax or concentrate. I've been making sure I get up and walk about regularly but I have a desk based job. I'm really scunnered with food too. I have no appetite and struggling to make an effort. I'm not eating enough. I'm taking my electrolytes and vitamins.

I can't be bothered thinking of things to eat, buying food or cooking food but there isn't just me in the house and if I don't make an effort no one else does...

I never felt this bad when I clearly had uncontrolled blood sugars.

BakerLea · 19/05/2023 08:25

I'm 9 stone 8 this morning
Officially the lightest I've seen on the scales since starting.
That doesn't sound good @bigboysdontcry, keto/low carb are meant to make you feel good and better a few weeks in.
How many weeks is that you have been on it?

OP posts:
BigBoysDontCry · 19/05/2023 09:24

Well done @bakerlee😊

This is week 8 for me. I'm feeling a little better today but its really up and down. I'm now at 10' 11 but it's not really about the weight as I wasn't overweight when I started. Although I am getting comments about how the extra pounds I've lost is looking good.

I'm tall but I have quite a slim frame so I think I should be nearer the bottom of my bmi slot than I was. Currently sitting at 22.

I'm not craving any foods in particular, more just craving the opportunity for an easier life in terms of not having to constantly think about what I can have and having to cook. Made beef stroganoff last night and it was lovely but then I'm immediately then thinking about what I can make the next night.

Husband is telling me to not be as strict as I might feel better but I tried having half a low carb wrap last week and my blood sugar went up.

I feel I need a full mot tbh but I don't really trust the GP not to just go for the easiest cheapest solution.

Anyway, I'll stop moaning and try to motivate myself again.

HungryHazelEyes · 25/05/2023 19:49

I just found this thread! Can I join please?

I started keto Jan 2018, got down to my goal weight and kept it off until November 2019. I have been keto/low carb since then, mostly, but I have gained some back. Every year I start out weighing a little less than the year before, although now I feel like my head is in the right place again.
Over Easter my scales stopped working and I gained 4lbs! I am a daily weigher and I gain if I don't weigh. I've noticed my weight has about a 2 day delay (higher carb day, I'll gain 2 days later, strict keto day, I'll lose 2-3 days later).

I currently weigh 167.3lbs, I've lost the weight I gained over Easter. I have about 12 pounds to lose and know it'll be tough, but doable.
When I first started keto I was very strict, logged everything in mfp, I changed my macros goal on there so it was 5% carbs, 25% protein and 70% fat. The carbs equalled 18g and I could usually stay under that. I haven't logged in a while, but usually if I do I'm pretty close to those same macros.

Sorry it's long, I hope you don't mind me jumping on!

Pinkest · 25/05/2023 20:59

Hi all, I'm doing Fast 800 but I'm not sure if that's keto or not? I've done ok this week but am wondering how to manage the weekend when we go to friends for dinner, when wine is poured and when I host some kids parties and can't focus on what I'm eating properly!

Anyway, my main question was that F800 makes you stick to 45-48 carbs and under, would this count as keto / will I go into ketosis? Or is it too much? Thanks!

Yummymummy2020 · 25/05/2023 21:16

Started a not quite Keto but low carb way of eating today so wanted to join! Have a ton of weight to lose, about fifty pounds so hoping it will kick start things for me. I can’t lose much as I’m pregnant but have gestational diabetes so it’s important for me to control my sugars. I can go the whole hog when baby comes and it’s safe to go to town with the weight loss! I did the same on a previous pregnancy and after I gave birth the weight fell off much quicker so hoping the same might happen again!!!
