April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Thank you biwi Grin

Just meal prepping for this week as I'm back to work Tuesday!

Good luck everyone Grin

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 11/04/2021 21:14

Thanks BIWI Thanks

I'm hoping to lose another ten pounds or so this time around, but will be reasonably satisfied if I lose seven.

Bon chance, bootcampers.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 11/04/2021 21:22

Thanks @BIWI

I'd really like to shift 12lb, that would get me into the healthy BMI range, I've been obese since I was in primary school, first went to WW when I was 11yrs old. Have managed to lose 4 stone since Aug 2020 through calorie counting but have been struggling the last couple of months to make any real progress so need to bump it up.

nowlook · 11/04/2021 21:22

Thanks BIWI and Athelstane!

Hope I remember to weigh myself tomorrow Grin

nowlook · 11/04/2021 21:24

That must have been very tough at school HalfShrunk Thanks Well done on taking action!

50FootWave · 11/04/2021 21:33

Place marking for tomorrow! Thanks, @BIWI

BalloonSlayer · 11/04/2021 21:46

Thanks BIWI

Really need to get disciplined again. I have had dreadful carb-creep for the last couple of months.

Nevertoomanyfluffies · 11/04/2021 21:52

Thank you Biwi. I've tried to add my name to the bottom of the spreadsheet but maybe because I'm on my phone I can't. Could someone add me please?

Hotgotthetrots · 11/04/2021 22:00

Hi. First time for me joining and promise not to lurk. Can someone add me to the spreadsheet please - I am struggling as on an archaic iPad. Thank you. Excited for the next 10 weeks!

venusandmars · 11/04/2021 22:00

I'm in. I don't have much to lose, but this is the final part of my [long] journey. For me, it is about health, blood pressure, maintaining this way of life.

Whatever we weigh in at now, we are all on our own path. Don't compare because it is not a competition. We are all our own unique n=1 experiment.

BIWI · 11/04/2021 22:02

@HillsideView

I've had your PM but for some reason I can't reply.

Just add your name to the bottom of the spreadsheet, and jump right in!

Thanks biwi hoping bootcamp sorts a big chunk of my excess 2stone!

Smorgs · 11/04/2021 22:18

Thank you *BIWI Flowers Joining for the first time here, although I lurked for a bit on the last bootcamp. I've been low carbing since the start of Feb and have lost 7kg so far. Looking forward to shifting the last 10kg. However I'm in France where the daily boulangerie visit for DH and DS is a big test on my resolve. Bon courage everyone

CrispyChickenThighs · 11/04/2021 22:23

Thanks BIWI

Hoping to lose enough to fit into my work clothes properly, so I feel more comfortable being me again. Also hoping it will help with migraines as I don't seem to have so many when I'm lighter.

Off to pack my lunch for work tomorrow

HillsideView · 11/04/2021 22:28

Thanks BiWi! I'm on the spreadsheet! First time boot camper. Here goes!

Freetodowhatiwant · 11/04/2021 22:43

Exciting! Can’t seem to add myself from my phone so will do it tomorrow on my laptop. I THINK I am ready. @BIWI and others what do you think about trying to combine with 16:8 this time? We did that on the only other previous camp I was on leaving the first lockdown. I have had success with it the last few pre-summers too in advance of beach weather.

BIWI · 11/04/2021 22:46

@Freetodowhatiwant fasting isn't part of Bootcamp, although it can be successfully used in conjunction with it.

I think, to be honest, it's better to get the first two weeks of Bootcamp under your belt before you start thinking about fasting

Accessing the Spreadsheet

If you're using your phone to access Mumsnet, you'll need to have downloaded the Google Sheets app to be able to use the spreadsheet.

It's a free app on the App store or Google Play.

New user name in honour of this, will try and add it to spreadsheets tomorrow from computer.

Thanks biwi and Athelstan! Excited!

prettybird · 11/04/2021 23:15

Place marking so it's here for me tomorrow. I'm apprehensive about stepping on the scales and seeing the damage that a week's worth of 60th birthday celebrations will have done! Shock

Covid10lbs · 12/04/2021 00:39

I've entered this morning's wt as I rush out on Monday mornings.
The timeframe of this BC is perfect, as school hols are end of June, so holiday mode begins. I've struggled with the last few months and want to feel in control of something, even if it's just my body. I'm sick of Winter comfort eating.
I'm not sure about a weight target. I'm happy to count successful days to start with, but I definitely need to lose 1 st and preferably 20lbs, so I'll set 10lbs as a first target.
Best wishes all.

ListenLinda · 12/04/2021 03:19

Hello fellow Bootcampers!
Well. Haven’t I been taught a valuable lesson about carb creep! Weighing in 6lbs heavier than the start of last bootcamp. Hoping a fair few lbs of that is water retention.
I think I may try to stay on strict BC and not switch the light this time, but will see how it goes.
Hope the first weigh in is kinder to you all Grin

MrsOmelette · 12/04/2021 06:08

@ListenLinda I’m sure it will come off relatively quickly, your body knows low carb now.

Dentist for me today, woohoo! 😆
B - scrambled eggs & spinach
L - chicken salad
D - mushroom stir fry
Will change my weigh day to Mondays and add later. Good luck and perseverance everyone.

50FootWave · 12/04/2021 06:25

Morning everyone - wishing you a brilliant first day!

All logged and ready to go - looking forward to getting the last 21 pounds off for good.

B: Ham & cheese omelette
L: Tofu and brocolli stirfry
D: Feta and cucumber

2l water and a brisk walk.

ListenLinda · 12/04/2021 06:27

That should of been the end of last bootcamp, I haven’t regained all the weight I lost since Jan 1st, that would of sent me spinning ha
Hoping I can get the 6lbs off in the first few weeks then all downhill from there.
