Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

4.5lb off, captain obvious is back in the game! 20.5lbs total this boot camp. Very happy with that as I was being careful this week after a couple of weeks of being a bit lax.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 08/03/2021 07:54

Morning!

Thanks BIWI

Pound and a half off for me this week, which I'm very pleased with. Ten and a half pounds altogether so far, which is great. I'm really feeling the difference in my energy levels!

Thanks for the Alzheimer's research BIWI. It's rife in my family, and my mum is very worried about it.

I can't remember who else posted photos yesterday, but you all looked lovely. It's made me think about my appearance a bit. I haven't bothered much about how I look since I gained all the weight: it makes me uncomfortable to look at myself too closely. Might sort my eyebrows out today, maybe.

@AthelstaneTheUnready Thanks and Gin for today.

venusandmars · 08/03/2021 07:57

Back on the trajectory for small losses - slow and steady. Was lower during the week, but at least I know it is possible...

Got a busy day - lots on in the middle of the day, so breakfast and dinner with lots of water in between.

B - boiled eggs mashed with butter, fried mushrooms on toast, coffee with cream
D - green veg soup, prawns in mayonnaise, salad

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:58

@FusionChefGeoff

You shouldn't need to worry about calories until you're getting near to your target weight. I can't remember if you said how much you weigh - you're not on the spreadsheet. Have you had no loss at all in these last two weeks?

List out for me everything that you've been eating and drinking over the last few days and let's see if there's anything we can spot.

(BTW you shouldn't have been eating chocolate if this was your first two weeks!)

Just placemarking!

Results looking good so far, well done!

pinkpinkeverywhere · 08/03/2021 08:05

Morning everyone, after my gain last week from my birthday, I have been super strict this week and have lost 2.4lbs. Not quite back to what I was before but only 1lb left to go and still 20lbs since boot camp began so I'm pleased.
Although I'm not in smaller clothes, I'm not bursting out of my clothes as I was at Christmas and my coats do up comfortably, so lots of NSV there.
Already some great losses on the spreadsheet appearing so well done everyone Flowers
I made a different celeriac concoction this weekend and it went down a storm with the whole family and has been my favourite by far.
Celeriac gratin

ouchmyfeet · 08/03/2021 08:11

Ooh that recipe sounds gorgeous @pinkpinkeverywhere

Well done on your loss (and a big one for @Justcallmecaptainobvious ). Just checking in with a pound off for me this week but I had big ones for 2 weeks before so can't really complain.

KOKO

prettybird · 08/03/2021 08:14

I made Delia's Whole Spice Chicken yesterday after the recommendations on here. Omitted the green pepper, which I hate with a passion but it still worked Smile

Pleaseandthankyou · 08/03/2021 08:29

I had put 1pound on last Monday. 3 pounds off this week. KOKO everyone.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/03/2021 08:30

@BIWI oh balls I thought I added myself last week!! I started at 142 aiming for 130. Lost 5lb in first week but now put on a lb.

I know about the chocolate but compared to what I nearly nearly did, believe me that was the lesser of 2 evils!!

I am also fasting 16:8 most days

Today's plan
Long run day (kids are back woo hoo I'm gonna be like Forrest Gump!)
B: 2 x Scrambled eggs, 1/2 avocado with chilli oil (long run)
L: Spanish chicken casserole leftovers with buttered mushrooms
D: spag Bol with more mushrooms (they are looking very sad and need eating!) and maybe some cabbage

Sun
Run day
L: hm smoked mackerel pate with added butter, 2 x eggs Mayo, cucumber, celery,
S: babybel
D: low carb creamy chicken korma added butter (hm), saag paneer and bit of tikka meat no sauce (chicken, lamb, shish) from takeaway

Sat
B: boiled egg with Mayo on top
L: chicken, grated cheese, sour cream salad (lettuce, cucumber, radish, 2 x cherry toms), 1/2 avocado, hm vinaigrette
D: burger, streaky bacon, cheese, celeriac chips, hm coleslaw
S: dark choc, ham, Greek yog

Fri:
Run day
L: 2 x scrambled eggs with cream, smoked salmon, buttered mushrooms
D: Spanish chicken casserole, mixed green veg, buttered cabbage
S: probably lots of cheese with Mayo on Blush, Greek yoghurt

Doilooklikeatourist · 08/03/2021 08:33

One LB off , thank goodness !
I thought I was going to be stuck on the same weight forever .

ListenLinda · 08/03/2021 08:36

1lb off here too! After period week was expecting a gain so pleasantly surprised!
That’s now 12.5lbs since 1st Jan and 8.5lbs this Bootcamp Grin

BustleInYourHedgerow · 08/03/2021 08:37

Hi everyone well done on your losses. I have sts but it's week four for me so its to be expected. I'm happy enough with that. Can see a huge difference in my stomach this week my clothes are fitting better and my belly button is no longer sad and squashed it's actually visible now. I'm very apple shaped and my stomach is an area I'm very unhappy with so definitely a NSV!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 08:37

Sorry @FusionChefGeoff you are on the spreadsheet! Just at the bottom - I was looking for you in the 'F' list!

Those meals all look fine - but just a couple of things. You're two weeks into this now, so you really shouldn't need to be snacking. Are you really hungry, or is it habit? Is it the psychology of 'I've done a run and so I need/deserve something?'

By the way, you don't need to fuel up for a run - short or long - the whole point of being fat-adapted is that your body has all the energy is needs in your own fat stores.

There also a lot of dairy in your meals - cream, sour cream, cheese, yoghurt. It might be worth seeing what happens if you cut those out for a few days.

What are you drinking? And, more importantly, how much water?

Iamnotacerealkiller · 08/03/2021 08:44

3.5lb off for me but it's two weeks worth really after a gain last week's because of a combination of totm and not donating to the toilet gods for a few days. So really it's 2.5lb lost over two weeks. Still meeting my lb per week average aaaaanndd. I'm 167lb today so 11st 13. The least I have weighed for about 4 years and two babies ago.

BIWI · 08/03/2021 08:47

Grin at toilet gods!

Morning everyone! 🌻🌻

Weighed in at 68kg (149.9 lbs) which I’m very happy with.

Hope everyone’s feeling positive and keeping their eyes firmly on NSVs if the scales aren’t showing a loss this week. It’s happening behind the scenes - as long as you’re following the rules and trusting the process, your body will be doing its thing.

Have a great week, all.🌷

Please could someone add me to the spreadsheet? TIA 😊

ChristMyArse · 08/03/2021 08:53

I'm nicking toilet gods! Miraculously I'm 2.4 down this week.. was 2 up the previous week so I'll take that. Some brilliant loses already this morning!

ChristMyArse · 08/03/2021 08:54

@Ninkanink added for you - cracking loss!!!! 🎉

Dailyhandtowelwash · 08/03/2021 08:57

@BustleInYourHedgerow ah, that sounds amazing. I've had a tummy since I was a little girl and will never see my belly button, so can only imagine how that must feel. I've looked pregnant my whole life. Blush

My weigh in this morning says I've lost 4lbs which isn't true so I can only assume that I've cocked up the maths re stones into pounds at some point! I have overall lost 7lbs but it's been in tiny amounts so at some point I've over calculated myself.

Compared to the losses on here, it's nothing, but I guess if I lose 7lbs every two months, then I head in the right direction and would have a BMI of 25 by the summer. Every small carb indiscretion puts me back about three weeks however, so I am quite down about the sustainability of this path given the reality of life. I am premenstrual though so probably being a bit of an Eyeeore, and the big picture is I've painlessly lost half a stone.

BIWI · 08/03/2021 09:01

Bang Bang Cauliflower

Adapted from a recipe on delish.com

3 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1 tbsp no added sugar or salt Heinz tomato ketchup
1 tbsp. sweet chilli sauce

The recipe calls for 2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce, but as there's a LOT of sugar in it, I reduced it by half and added the ketchup instead, which is very low in sugar - it was still very tasty

1 tbsp. sriracha
juice of 1 lime
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets
salt
freshly ground black pepper
chopped coriander, for garnish

Method:

Preheat oven to 220ºC.

In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, sweet chilli sauce, Sriracha, lime juice, and garlic.

Cut the cauliflower into florets - smaller are better than bigger ones, as they'll get more sauce coating

Put the florets into a baking dish, pour the sauce over, and stir to cover, then season generously with salt and pepper.

I then left it to marinate for around half an hour - might be better if left even longer - and next time, I'll put the florets with the sauce into a ziplok bag, so that I can really ensure they're covered completely - just trying to turn them on the baking sheet wasn't so easy to get the sauce evenly spread

Season generously with salt and pepper.

Spread into an even layer and roast until slightly charred and tender, 30 to 35 minutes. Garnish with coriander and serve.

I found that it took longer than this, and I needed to turn the oven up for the last 5 minutes or so, to make sure that the florets were cooked and nicely charred - another reason not to have the florets too large!

You can also cook this in an Air Fryer - I don't have one so I'm not sure how they work, but this is what the recipe says - initial prep is exactly the same:

Place one third of the cauliflower in a single layer in the basket of the Air Fryer. Cook at 180ºC for 12 minutes, tossing halfway though

Not quite sure what you do with the remaining two thirds!

This is actually really the point of Bootcamp though - working out how much carbohydrate you can tolerate. What you've learnt is that carbohydrates really aren't your friend, so when you do go off plan - which you will do, as life is like that - at least you know what's happening, what the consequences might be and also what to do about it!. It's also then up to you if you decide that those consequences are worth it. So this will help you develop strategies to cope on those occasions.

I am premenstrual though so probably being a bit of an Eyeeore, and the big picture is I've painlessly lost half a stone

Well yes and yes!

I made a no rice bibimbap which turned out amazing. Just soaked mince in normal oil, sesame oil and soy sauce then fried in two halves until cooked with about 4 crushed garlic cloves. Separately fry what ever veggies e.g. cabbage, peppers and diced courgette in plain oil and more garlic. Toss the two together with more seseme oil and serve with chilli sauce and japanese style mayo (kikkoman?) Still thinking about it now and may need to go scour the freezer for more mince. Serve rice to non low carbers.

Ninkanink · 08/03/2021 09:09

@Dailyhandtowelwash why can’t the 4 lb loss be true? If you were due a whoosh then that could well be it!
