Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

@Iamnotacerealkiller I love Korean food for lowcarbing - it lends itself so well to being rice-less.

I make kimbap quite often, in fact I think I might make some this week!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 08/03/2021 09:13

@Ninkanink because the scales have been hovering around the same 2lbs all week and no different today so I know I'm not 4lbs lighter than last Monday! At some point I've miscalculated my weight, which may have been a fortnight ago I think. I do know that I'm overall lighter than my day one weight though.

Thanks, @BIWI. I've known for a very long time how much carbs hate me but I suspect I shed the weight more quickly when not on bootcamp as I just restrict food more in the aftermath. Whereas now I'm eating more so it takes longer to drop again.

nowlook · 08/03/2021 09:26

Morning campers!

Well, I've never heard of kimbap, but it sounds wonderful (apart from adding peppers- I'm with prettybird on that one!).

I had a bout of sneezing cold yesterday, so was a bit mardy. Completely pigged out at supper: chicken thighs; roasted radishes, courgettes and shallots; cheesy leeks; cauliflower cheese and broccoli. Nothing wrong with it at all from a BC perspective, but the portion size was generous.

I'm at the infamous wobbly tummy fat stage now. It's definitely shrinking, but I hate going through this wibbly, dimply phase to get to the other side. Will be worth it.

Ninkanink · 08/03/2021 09:27

Ah...too early for me to understand that (only had a few sips of coffee so far)...

I must confess I’d be taking any hypothetical 4 lb loss and I wouldn’t look too closely at the veracity of the data.😉😉

BIWI · 08/03/2021 09:27

Do you think, then, that perhaps your portions are too large on this WOE? Are you actually over-eating? Or is it that when you're not low carbing that you're actually depriving yourself?

Which do you feel - ultimately - is the healthiest way of eating for you?

STS this week. Not had a great loss this boot camp so far, just under 10lbs and have at least 100lbs more to lose!

Ninkanink · 08/03/2021 09:31

@nowlook I love the wobbly stage! Exciting!

Ninkanink · 08/03/2021 09:33

@Cactusowl that’s still a brilliant loss, and much, much better than no loss (or continued gain over that period of time)!

But @Cactusowl you have still lost 10lbs! Not far off a stone.

Don't focus on the whole amount as that makes it all seem overwhelming. Be proud of what you've achieved so far.

If it would help, list out your meals for me and let me see if there's anything I can spot that you might be able to tweak.

But you're doing really well, honestly! Flowers

@nowlook I had that last week - the half-deflated lumpy balloon look. This week I've only lost 1lb, but my stomach looks 20 years younger.

No change today, so sticking with the 1lb I lost on Thursday and entered as last week's weight.

NotwatchingSpooks · 08/03/2021 09:44

A 1.5lb gain for me, I’ve been really good, but had what I thought was a good choice takeaway lamb tikka and salad, with 3 bites of chicken korma chicken and a sag, it was obviously too much for bootcamp, so lesson learned. I feel like I’ve retained water overnight, as hardly weed today, normally do a huge wee in the morning. So am not going to be derailed and will just koko.

Am still on my bike everyday , I’ve done every day in March so far and off for a walk shortly.

Today
B Greek yogurt
Lunch chicken salad
D beef steak strips with stir fried veg

Doilooklikeatourist · 08/03/2021 10:01

Plank challenge ✅
Helped by the fact that Ken Bruce was playing George Micheal ( love of my life ) singing that I was amazing ( it all helps ! )
Inspired by the style challenge and @prettybird earrings , i have decided I’m not using the earrings I wear all the time , for the next 3 weeks
Today , I’ve given the Jade screw in earrings I had for my 21st an outing , if they weren’t vintage then , they certainly are now as I was 21 in 1981
Also , the well worn grey skinnies are in the chest of drawers for a rest
I’m in a deep pink jumper , black knee length skirt - which zips up much better than last time I wore it , but I’m not brave enough for a photo yet

@Cactusowl you’re so doing well , 10lb is a very good loss

@Dailyhandtowelwash , I have to do a sum , every week to work out my weight in lbs ! Obviously 10 stone is 140lb , it’s just the adding on of the extra stone and pounds that gets me confused every time !

Needs to go to Tesco this afternoon , so will have a look at the recipe thread for inspiration

Dailyhandtowelwash · 08/03/2021 10:01

I think I exist in the wobbly stage!

@BIWI I think that was a question to me. I don't know the answer! I think I probably don't eat enough left to my own devices, and I worry about the longer term health implications eg osteoporosis, vitamin deficiencies, and I'm definitely eating more vegetables at the moment than I usually do. So that's good. I'm not eating enormous portions, just additional meals, which is where the overall increase in food is coming from, and I'm trying hard to be responsive to my body and eat when hungry. I do find very fatty meals a bit unappealing at times, but I'm a fan of all the constituent parts of them! So I do wonder if I'm actually not eating enough fat as a result (the anti-fat message is so very, very hard to shake, isn't it?).

So no easy answer to your very sensible question! I have a long history of slow metabolism, and mystifying dieticians, in part I imagine because of some disordered eating a long time ago, and losing weight just gets harder and harder by any route as I approach menopause. I can maintain my weight pretty easily eating exactly as I like, but I don't think my natural eating habits include enough nutrients for longer term, and I really need to lose weight as my health indicators are all hovering at the top of normal.

Sorry, very long answer, but I think overall I need to make peace with mindful enjoyment of some foods and the consequences of that, which will mean a slower weight loss overall but sees me moving ultimately in the right direction?

Ninkanink · 08/03/2021 10:02

@ChristMyArse thank you!🌷

cheeseisthebest · 08/03/2021 10:10

Well done everyone! Could someone please add my results onto the spreadsheet for me, starting weight 150.5 now 141lb.
Thank you so much, I just cant do it from my phone.

plumstone · 08/03/2021 10:13

Morning All +1lb for me - which I am putting down to the two G&Ts and not enough water over the weekend!!

Onward and upward

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 08/03/2021 10:14

@nowlook there’s an other side of the wobbly tummy stage??!!

@Dailyhandtowelwash it sounds to me like you’re building a more positive relationship with food, whilst still losing weight. That sounds great to me. Let’s face it, many of us have tried other diets and they’ve worked in so far as we’ve lost weight, but they’ve failed to make us healthy, be sustainable and allow a healthy relationship with our food. That’s why this WOE is different.

@Doilooklikeatourist there’s a converter in the spreadsheet of dreams!

nowlook · 08/03/2021 10:30

For those who struggle with the stones and pounds conversion (like me!), all you have to remember is to multiply the decimal by 14 to get the pounds value. I know it's obvious for many Grin

So, if you weigh 160 pounds, divide by 14 to get stones: 11.43 stones.

Now, times the 0.43 by 14 = 6.02

So, 160 pounds is 11 stones and 6lbs.

I have a-level maths, honestly and a calculatorGrin

nowlook · 08/03/2021 10:31

Still got it Wink

All of that sounds very positive to me. Flowers

One thing we really, really want this to be about, is about eating good, natural and healthy food.

Morning, I didn't weigh this morning as it was so hectic getting the kids back to school and myself to work! Will weigh in the morning and hoping last week had not been too unkind to me Grin

Good luck to everyone weighing today!!

Morning All!

Another 1lbs loss for me. So happy. I'm astonished I continue to lose, normally I'd have long given up by now due to fluctuations.

Thankk you @BIWI for the Bang Bang Cauliflower recipe. That's dinner sorted.

Midlifemission · 08/03/2021 11:47

Morning all. Well done for some great losses.
I STS again this week - looks like I am in good company with a few of us in the same boat.
I did see a 2lb loss mid week so am just going to try to shrug and hope for a whoosh soon.

My DC are back in school today which is very liberating and I am excited about having some more time /headspace. Have started writing a list of some of your inspiring recipes for the next couple of weeks as I have lapsed into eating the same meals over and over - which is fine but some of you put me to shame.
I have Delia chicken, bang bang cauliflower and kimbap on my list so far.

prettybird · 08/03/2021 11:55

Today's earrings: opals that my mum bought in Australia and had set into drops by her local jeweller for my Christmas present, about 25 years ago.

There are two stories to go with this: one happy, one sad.

The sad one is that my parents got me a beautiful opal ring for my graduation in 1984. Not a big stone but very dark and with a brilliant, large "fire". I had to get it re-sized a couple of years ago (another long story, to do with my dislocating the knuckle of that finger while supporting ds at a cycling race Confused) and the local jeweller I was trying for the first time (my mum's one, across the city, had retired) knackered the stone (it was a triplet rather than a solid opal, so water sensitive, which is what I think he did wrong) and when I pointed it out, rather than admitting it, replaced it with one that appears almost white Sad.

The happy one is that when dh was in Australia 13 years ago as part of his Master of Wine course. He asked me what I wanted him to bring back and I said an opal. I didn't think to say a triplet, but he brought me back a solid opal on a wee fine chain (I now wear it on one of my mum's chains) ShockSmile. What he didn't know was that o had earrings that matched it as one of them had been broken for ages. Got it fixed at my mum's jeweller and had a lovely matching set Smile until my local jeweller screwed it up
