Morning all.

Sorry if you're chomping at the bit to announce your loss this morning!

Here's the spreadsheet

Some great losses already posted, so well done.

But don't despair if you haven't lost as much as others. Remember, this isn't a competition. We're all here with different startpoints, and everyone loses at a different rate anyway.

Gah, I don’t know what’s going on with me this week. I have somehow put on 1.5lb since Saturday despite doing nothing wrong and in fact easing back on the dairy and upping the veg as I was having loads of dairy (been doing this woe since May).
The only thing different is having had 2 tbsps of chia pudding made with KTC coconut milk each day to try to get my digestion going again (slight success, not sure it’s worth it).
Oh well, I’ll keep plodding on.
B: Fasting
L: Leftover sausages and salad
D: It’s pouring with rain so I think a pumpkin soup is in order

Rayna37 · 21/10/2020 10:32

Rita Ellen Cooking from scratch will take some getting used to, the only tip I can offer is make notes/lists of quick meal ideas and also batch cook so you have e.g. portions of bolognese in the freezer: home made ready meals. Meat/fish and three veg isn't too time consuming, depending on the veg.
I remember a friend doing Slimming World once commenting that the best way to get a decent meal on it was to cook from scratch, especially meat and veg type dinners. She pointed out if they all did that normally they probably wouldn't be at Slimming World in the first place!

LOL'd at Stuntnun's celery theory

EarlGreyHot I looked up the IPD Moussaka recipe last week and decided it was a bit "much"- as you say, very heavy on the dairy!

BIWI · 21/10/2020 10:43

@EarlGreyHot

I'm struggling a bit with the 3 meals a day. I find myself having to eat whilst not hungry which feels counterintuitive...

It's only for the rest of this week! That said, you don't have to eat a lot - even just a chunk of cheese, or a hard-boiled egg, would be enough.

Next week you can drop a meal if you want - and then just start to eat only when you're hungry.

@VeryLittleOwl

Morning. Weighed in for another support group I'm a member of that has Wednesdays as its day and I'm up 1lb on Monday. Don't think I've eaten anything I shouldn't have (although it was celeriac last night), but I'm glugging back quite a lot of bicarbonate of soda in pints at the moment thanks to trying to fight off mild cystitis before it turns into a full-blown UTI - could that have an effect?
Why would think that celeriac would have an effect? It's a low carb veg, so you should be fine.

It's possible that an infection could be hampering weight loss.

And I very much hope that you get rid of that cystitis - it's horrible Flowers

List out for me what your meals were over the last few days, as well as what you were eating, and let me see if there's anything I can help with

Hmm the scales hate me today, it seems I have put back on 3.5 pounds ( !!!) despite no cheats... so you`re not on your own @BurningGubbins

Since my grocery delivery on monday morning , I have had some lovely carb free meals that have been very satisfying... the trick is clearly in the planning !

Mon
B- creamy coffee
L- hake fillet with big salad
Snack - 2 hardboiled eggs
D - Roast chicken leg, dauphinoise celeriac, roast cauliflower

Tue
B- 2 hardboiled eggs, creamy coffee
L - tinned tuna with mayo and salad
Snack - pork scratchings
D - Another chicken leg ( working my way through a whole chicken ) with creamy garlic mushrooms

Looking back on it I might be not having enough fat... Ive noticed I definitely get hungry after a lighter lunch, like the hake salad, which I steamed. Ill up the butter ..and yes, the greens.

Great loses everyone sorry I`ve lost track of names - everyone is doing amazing !

Mimosa1 · 21/10/2020 11:00

Morning everyone, so great to hear everyone's progress! I'm tantalisingly close to the scale numbers starting with a 6 rather than a 7 and cannot bloody wait.

This is a bit TMI but I've been having bad night sweats and feeling very hot at night lately. It could of course simply be my age and period menopause, but I remember someone saying that this woe could affect estrogen. I'm vaguely clinging to hope here as I'm too young for this not really ! I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom. Thanks Smile

Superspecs · 21/10/2020 11:36

I sew my own clothes and in preparation for making a new dress I did my measurements and they've gone down! Just went to a lovely yoga class too so feel very buoyed today.

I drink a lot of coffee and have swapped to alpro almond unsweetened which claims it is 0g carbs per 100ml. I am finding it a bit ugh in my coffee, I'm not a great fan of sweet things but this barely registers as anything but black coffee. Is there something that's a bit better? Not as carby as cows milk but better than this? Would sweetened almond be worse than cow's milk? Interestingly I find it okay in my chai tea.

@StuntNun

I don't want to come over all conspiracy theorist but has anyone else noticed that celery has got smaller? You used to get a big head of celery that lasted for ages but now you only seem to get six or seven sticks. Is somebody skimming the celery so they can sell a smaller celery at the same price?
I was just thinking this recently, also the celery is a bit rubbish in general! Crap summer though so 🤷‍♀️
Jdhshekr · 21/10/2020 12:20

I’m up a lb or two since the weekend but not worrying about it as I’ve noticed that I lose weight then go up a bit, stay there, then a week or so later suddenly drop 2-3lbs, so I’m just on the weight gain but if the weekly cycle at the moment.

itsmeagainagain · 21/10/2020 12:47

I’ve noticed. Also noticed the New York bagels I buy for the family seem to have shrunk as well. It’s a scandal.

Great news on the measurements Smile

Re what to put in your coffee, why not cream?

Pleaseandthankyou · 21/10/2020 12:49

I am so glad I found this thread. I started last Thursday and there is a dramatic difference in my waist. It looks like a waist again. It may be mainly water but mine must have all been stored in the one place. I have to take a new medication from this weekend. I have never taken anything but age is catching up with me. I was very concerned about putting on more weight but feel ready to deal with it now 😀

Has anything triggered it? I find it helps if I identify what makes me want comfort food. Usually if I really think about it it comes back to me feeling fed up or sad about something. If it’s not that it’s usually menstrual cycle related or that I’m coming down with a cold. If none of those, then it may be because the first few weeks of low carb can be difficult for cravings. Smash through it and you will barely have them any more in a fortnight Flowers
VeryLittleOwl · 21/10/2020 13:15

BIWI - the last bootcamp I was on, I stalled badly and dropped out and at the time the culprit seemed to be celeriac. But I probably wasn't drinking enough at the time.

LemonSea · 21/10/2020 13:17

itsmeagainagain maybe try brushing your teeth (if you are home), this usually puts me off snacking for a bit.

B Coffee and piece of cheese
L Padron peppers fried in olive oil,sea salt
D Duck leg, courgettes and green beans

ShagMeRiggins · 21/10/2020 13:22

itsmeagainmeagain have a babybel or something else. And some water.

20bloodypounds · 21/10/2020 13:26

littleowl I think I'm the same with celeriac, especially celeriac dauphinoise - I get that all the cream and cheese might have an influence, but I'm wondering if our veg box has particularly carby celeriac Grin It is all one big experiment.

Water ! When you get a bad craving, take half an hour to think about why , then drink a pint of water ... by the time an hour has passed you should see it’s gone away. Tried and tested, I promise. Your body wants stuff that’s bad for it - fact. You are strong though , also fact.
ShagMeRiggins · 21/10/2020 13:45

Your body wants stuff that’s bad for it - fact.

Ha ha, well yes and no!

Your body wants fuel.

Your body wants what it’s addicted to and accustomed to.

Sometimes that’s the bad stuff but there’s something in the bad stuff we need—in those case carbohydrates in the form of chocolate and crisps, which are pretty much the easiest way. Or so we think!

Just remember chocolate as we know it is not a natural food. It doesn’t grown on a chocolate tree, fully formed with milk and sugar added. Nor is there a roaming Crisp Mammal that I’m aware of in nature.

Sure, many of the ingredients are natural (cocoa beans, potatoes), but the rest of the shit that’s out in there? Processed!

BIWI · 21/10/2020 14:09

NorthOfAmazing · 21/10/2020 14:17

You’re right of course @ShagMeRiggins and the Crisp Mammal made me chuckle 😁 sorry if I’m preaching, it just helps me to think of it as just because I crave it doesn't mean I need it If you see what I mean.

I’m past cravings now but I remember vivid dreams about biting into juicy nectarines when I first started. I used to wake up nearly tasting it . The mind is a weird thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Firstly, you make no mention of how much water you're drinking. At your weight you should be drinking 3 litres per day. Are you getting anywhere near that?

Second, I think you're right about the fat - why steam your fish?! Are you putting an oily dressing on your salad as well as the mayo?

If you're hungry and still needing to snack, this could be a key factor.

Are you having breakfast every day? You didn't on Monday - remember in these first two weeks you should be having breakfast (and a creamy coffee doesn't count!)

As we approach the end of the second week you should be feeling that your appetite is under control and that you're not hungry between meals.

Hmm. Much more likely, I think, to be the cream and the cheese!
