Morning all.

Sorry if you're chomping at the bit to announce your loss this morning!

Here's the spreadsheet

Some great losses already posted, so well done.

But don't despair if you haven't lost as much as others. Remember, this isn't a competition. We're all here with different startpoints, and everyone loses at a different rate anyway.

Here's an interesting piece about celeriac

Interesting to note, though, that pregnant women should be careful how much they eat.

Just took a delivery. Big box for DH. Phillips pasta maker. No warning. He is the sweetest husband but a complete foodie. We have every gadget going. This will not break me, I am going to think of my goals and leave it with him and the teenagers. Determined.

NorthOfAmazing · 21/10/2020 14:28

Hey BIWI,

I’ve just switched to drinking fizzy water, I just realised I haven’t mentioned it. So that means I definitely have 2l a day, and I can track it by what’s left in the bottle at the end of the day , and can finish it off if anything. It tastes more like a drink too, so am more likely to drink it. I haven’t quite reached 3l though , even 2l feels a lot. Must persevere Grin

Not big on breakfast , I’m rarely hungry first thing , and was aiming to move to 16/8 soon , but the creamy coffee is essential at the minute. Not long ago I used to drink 5 frothy sweetened cappuccinos a day ( work induced bad habit ) so I really have made such progress I promise Grin

But yes the pesky gain hmm can’t really explain it and something has gone wrong somewhere. I like the way it was explained upthread, as just a cyclic thing and it gives me hope I might still weigh in alright on Sunday.

Back to the drawing board with menu planning. Thanks for helping x

itsmeagainagain · 21/10/2020 14:35

Thanks @Jdshekr for your mind words... Am late for period or for predicted period so it’s quite likely hormonal so I just need to ride it out. I’m an emotional eater and I’m actually not hungry just a little bit down today so thanks for your reply Smile

BIWI · 21/10/2020 14:35

Well, the water is really an issue, so that's important to get right.

Not being hungry first thing is fine - from next week you can drop breakfast anyway, if you want. But if you're hungry during the day, you really do need to up your fat.

But beware the amount of dairy - not sure what your creamy coffee entails, but keep an eye on how much cream you're drinking/cooking with (as well as milk, if you're using this in your coffee)

@lemonsea good idea to brush teeth thanks!!! Will do now Grin

itsmeagainagain · 21/10/2020 14:37

@shagmeriggins and @NorthOfAmazing you two are spot on... I haven’t drunk enough water today! Usually have a 2 litre bottle of sparkling water at my desk but I’d run I so just had a pint glass and not refilled since this morning... I’m off to drink lots . Thanks all for your wise words Flowers

Black coffee with spoon of cream, once maybe twice a day. Cream sauce a couple of times a week, usually in a stroganoff type dish. No milk. Will try to diversify a bit this week and report back 😁
poorbuthappy · 21/10/2020 14:45

@ShagMeRiggins - see if there was a crisp mammal then it would be meat and we would be allowed it. Sad

I love crisps and am finding them the hardest thing to give up.
But I am looking forward so much to a square of dark chocolate next week.

I also drink sparkling water - and it's easy to see your 2L through the day.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 21/10/2020 14:45

I skipped breakfast this morning as I had to go out unexpectedly. Had first meal at 2pm, which was smoked salmon slices, a chunk of feta and 2 slices of Serrano ham, with a mug of fruit tea.
Might do spicy turkey mince for dinner.
It's still quite hard to keep the water levels up. Off to make more coffee now and do my 100th per of the day Grin

Margaritawithlime · 21/10/2020 14:57

I’ve just come to check in and realised
I’m way down on my water today too. Off to fill up the bottle!

Midlifemission · 21/10/2020 15:09

@itsmeagainagain stay strong you have the whole of Bootcamp with you - we will all have days like this but are here to support each other.

@LemonSea your delivery made me smile wryly - the DHs can be a liability on this journey can't they . Am sure you can avert your eyes when needed!

I had a small NSV today which I will share as it's my first physical evidence of progress - tried on some trousers I bought in lockdown which started to feel tight on my stomach quite quickly which was depressing as I bought them to walk in etc and they were ££ - anyway tried on today and they slipped on and felt fab. Still several stones until I can slip into lots of the others I have outgrown - but if felt amazing ! A glimpse of my future if you like.
Also took some truly hideous stomach and arse photos to keep me strong !!

prettybird · 21/10/2020 15:33

I'm consciously working on 16:8 (low term Boot Camper so I'm allowed Wink) and I find it really helps me control the "boredom snacks" in the evening (and the following morning) Grinyes, I know we are only supposed to eat if we're hungry Blush

I've even got into the habit of having my morning tea without milk even though I don't really like it Confused, afternoon hot drinks are now herb tea and then I "treat" myself to two cups of tea with (full fat of course ) milk in the early evening.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 21/10/2020 15:43

Just had a line of chocologic. Only 2.5g of carb but I feel as guilty as if it was a line of coke. I'm blaming my period. Sorry Biwi

BIWI · 21/10/2020 15:46

That's nonsense though, @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously, isn't it? Your period didn't make you buy that or put it on your mouth.

We are only half way through week 2 - you can't cheat like this.

Cutting out chocolate isn't just about cutting the carbs, it's about breaking the hold that sweet things have over us. This is a really important part of Bootcamp.

Mimosa1 my menopause started with night sweats, I also ached, was very cross and felt about 100 years old. There is a great menopause thread on Mumsnet, where you can post questions etc. I was 51 so my GP did not do any tests, I’m on HRT which works well for me. It is worth talking to your GP.

Notwatchingtvtoday · 21/10/2020 16:02

Hi for those looking for an easy emergency meal back up.
As part of my Emergency store cupboard I now keep a couple of tins of M&S chunky steak, it’s a 400g tin and 2.1g of carb per 100gms. It’s not something that I would normally eat, but I would do if, it was that or falling off boot camp.
It may be the sort of thing that’s good to have as a back up as you just have to warm it through. You could then serve it with loads of veg.

Mimosa1 · 21/10/2020 16:05

Thanks @notwatchingtvtoday. I'll check it out.

I always think that's a good sign, as I seem to get it at the start, when I know I'm losing weight!

@Notwatchingtvtoday thanks I will look at that !

@BIWI or @StuntNun can you help me with a question please - I don't think it's on the FAQs. I have read a lot around low carb before but had an unsettling conversation with an acquaintance earlier which I would like to settle in my brain !
Basically she was talking about having had a high cholesterol reading and was talking about butter and cheese as the devil incarnate and said something like 'well obviously you can't go round cooking in butter and things these days ' I know that this WOE has been proven to reduce Diabetes risk and be good for heart health - but what about Cholesterol? I don't know what mine even is by the way but I felt a bit put out that I didn't really know where I stood on this from a LCHF perspective !

To be honest for me losing weight is probably my biggest health priority but equally I know we need to eat this way long term to keep the weight off so is it a valid concern ?

Sorry that was long and thanks for any help

BurningGubbins · 21/10/2020 16:21

Thanks @BIWI

Mon:
B: Fasted
L: Leftover cheeseburger pie with spinach, cucumber and 4 mini tomatoes
2 tbsps FF Greek yoghurt with 2 tbsps of coconut milk chia pudding (ktc coconut milk)
D: 2 sausages, sprouts and asparagus with a cheesy sauce (1 tbsp FF creme fraiche and a pinch of grated cheese)

Tues:
B: Fasted
L: 3 egg omelette cooked in butter, splash of double cream, spinach, 4 mini tomatoes, 5 thin slices out of a chorizo ring
2 tbsps FF Greek yoghurt with 2 tbsps of coconut milk chia pudding (ktc coconut milk)
D: homemade burger, pinch of grated cheese, broccoli and asparagus tossed in melted butter

Each day I drank 3.5l of water (500mls over my weight quota), including 1 Hi 5 zero. Where I mention green veg it’s a lot.

The only thing I can think of is the dairy, but I have been having consistently more than this and not had any issues losing. Could that have suddenly changed?

Tesco also do a minced beef and onion one which is 4g carbs for the whole tin. That has got me out of some stew and dumpling cravings quickly before!

I find with this WOE you do need a good emergency standby for those evenings where you’ve had a shit day and all you want to do is order pizza and lay down. It’s much easier to keep on track if I know I’ve got something int he cupboard or freezer that I can heat and eat without thinking. I’m not always organised enough to meal prep and batch cook sadly!

CrepuscularCritter · 21/10/2020 16:30

I shall consider it the celebratory chorus of my stomach then BIWI.Wink

Yes, absolutely this WOE is good for your cholesterol. You should see the 'good' cholesterol levels rise and the 'bad' ones fall.

When your acquaintance said she had a high cholesterol reading, you need to ask her how that broke down - there should have been 3 different measures, not just one figure.

@StuntNun has posted about this before, and is much more knowledgeable than me.

Oh, and by the way, your friend is way out date with her thinking!
