Super Strict Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp Week 1

BIWI · 24/05/2020 22:28

Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

There are a number of things I need to post to get this kicked off.

First, this is a 5 week Bootcamp, as opposed to the usual 10. That said, we're starting with a super strict first week, to get us all focused and back on track - as I know a lot of us have been struggling during lockdown.

However, after the first week we'll revert to Bootcamp 'ordinaire' for the next two weeks, and then for the final two weeks, Bootcamp Light (if you wish)

So in this first week there are 4 key things to remember:

  1. No more than 1000 calories per day (1200 if you're a man)
  1. No more than 60g carbs per day
  1. We're introducing intermittent fasting. Either 12:12, which means you have a 12 hour window between your last meal of the day and the first the next day - in other words, between dinner/supper and breakfast. Ideally, though, 16:8, which means you don't eat anything dinner/supper until lunchtime the next day - which includes milk. So you can drink tea/coffee/herbal or fruit tea/water but nothing else until lunchtime
  1. You must do some form of exercise every day. It's entirely up to you what you do! If you don't do any currently then start. If you do, then increase what you're doing

The things we are not eating during Bootcamp are:

pasta/noodles
couscous/grains
oats/porridge
cereals/muesli/granola
rice
lentils/legumes/pulses/chickpeas/hummus
peas/beans
bread/pitta/bagels/wraps
potatoes/sweet potatoes
biscuits
cakes
sweets
chocolate
pizza
flour/cornflour
sugar/honey/agave syrup/maple syrup/jam
full-sugar drinks (fizzy drinks/squash/cordials)
balsamic vinegar
fruit juice
fruit (for the first three weeks - you can introduce berries after this)
alcohol (for the first three weeks - you can re-introduce it in moderation after this)
nuts (for the first two weeks)

Weighing

The very lovely |@AthelstaneTheUnready has set up a spreadsheet for us all to declare our weight every Monday.

However

You don't have to be on the spreadsheet! Just don't enter your weight if you don't want to be there.

Equally, though, if you want to be on the spreadsheet to give you some kind of public accountability, but don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it. This means that your starting weight is registered as 100. For every pound that you lose, you lose 1 point. So if you start in week 1 at 100, and then by week 2 have lost 5 pounds, you enter 95 as your weight.

Hi
Thanks so much for running this. I did Susan up but I’m not on the spreadsheet, could someone add me please?

Thanks very much
X

BIWI · 24/05/2020 23:00

If you find that your name isn't on the spreadsheet (and you want it to be!) just add it at the bottom of the list.

*Don't try to alphabetise it yourself!

@AthelstaneTheUnready will sort it all out.

Oh, and while I'm here don't touch the blue cells! otherwise I'm in big trouble.

IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF DISORDERED EATING, OR ANY KIND OF EATING DISORDER, PLEASE DON'T DO THIS SUPER STRICT WEEK, BUT START WITH 'NORMAL' BOOTCAMP'

If you think, in any way, that starting to weigh and count will lead to any kind of obsessive behaviour, then please, please, just skip to ordinary Bootcamp, as we don't want to trigger any kind of dysfunctional relationship with food.

And while I'm about the shouting ...

I'm not a medic. I have no medical training. Nor am I a nutritionist, a dietician or a scientist. The advice I give here is based solely on the reading I have done, as well as my own experience.

If you are on any kind of long-term medication - especially for hypertension or diabetes - please talk to your GP or practice/diabetes nurse about following this plan. In general, low carbing has a very positive effect on blood sugars and blood pressure, which may mean that your medication may need to be re-evaluated.

Although we most readily/frequently talk about weight loss, and have our weekly spreadsheet to record our weight/loss, there are other (often more accurate) ways to register our progress.

First, take measurements. Hips, bust, thighs, waist, upper arms, upper legs ... etc.

It's not unusual for the scales to show no movement at all, whereas our measurements can change significantly.

OP posts:
BIWI · 24/05/2020 23:22

Another way to monitor your progress is through your clothes - find something that's a bit tight (not something that's so small you'll never fit into it in a million years!) and keep trying it on. How your clothes fit you is the most tangible, rewarding way to monitor how well you're doing.

Following ... ready to start!

SquishyBones · 25/05/2020 05:43

How on earth do you use the spreadsheet? I’ve downloaded and opened it and I can’t see before 1st June. How do you enter your starting weight?

Burnshersmurfs · 25/05/2020 06:09

Jeez. I've put on 20 lbs since lockdown started. I suspected it was bad, but not that bad! Thank you BIWI and Athelstane for giving me the nudge I needed.

devoncreamtea · 25/05/2020 06:32

Hello! Up early today - weighed in:
166.6. Got my measurements written down too. Good luck everyone!

mistywillow17 · 25/05/2020 06:46

Wow - I knew I'd stacked on some (more) weight during lockdown, but the number on the scales was still a bit of a shock - I'm now by far the heaviest I have ever been, with well over three stone to lose in total. Intermittent fasting and low carbing have both worked well for me separately in the past, so hopefully combining the two should be really effective. Good luck to you all!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/05/2020 06:58

@SquishyBones - put your weight in column D, Squishy.

(Columns B and C are also there for people who've been doing successive bootcamps, and want to record their initial weight from 2018, or whenever they started).

But if it's your first, or you don't want to, just use column D for starting weight (25th May).

Rshard · 25/05/2020 07:05

Morning!

Just asked dh for a black coffee rather than my usual tea.

Good luck everyone

SparklesAllOver · 25/05/2020 07:16

A big thank you for doing this, BIWI and Athelstane, this is the first diet I have ever tried and I desperately need a change. Knowing that so many others are doing I hope will spur me on. Lets do it!

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/05/2020 07:20

Thank you so much for the spreadsheet Athelstane and BIWI.

Today I am 3.4 kilos / 7.5 lbs down from my heaviest ever earlier in the year. It sounds good but I have been fluctuating between this and half a kilo more and half a kilo less for over a month.

I have a food delivery later so as long as this is complete, I’m ready to roll.

RobinHobb · 25/05/2020 07:22

Wow me too. Just weighed myself and I knew I'd put on but I'm the heaviest I've been in years. Starting today....

LostaraYil · 25/05/2020 07:30

Thank you for doing this! Ready to start, drinking black coffee this morning instead of coffee with cream. I'm painting the hallway so hopefully that will keep me busy and not thinking about food all day.

Stepharoo78 · 25/05/2020 07:41

There's a theme! I knew I'd put on weight but it's worse than I thought! I feel heavy, unfit...and ready for a change. Black coffee on the go!

Velocity · 25/05/2020 07:42

Black coffee - check; water flask - check; shitload of eggs and butter - check! Eating window sarts opens at 11:30 for me!

SophieRay · 25/05/2020 07:50

Good morning! I have weighed, but can't update the spreadsheet on either phone or tablet - so will have to try on the desktop later. I have taken awful before photos, hopefully I will be glad I did when I have after photos to compare but my stomach is just huge. Also taken measurements, done these in cm instead of inches as cm don't mean anything to me so I can just see the numbers decreasing without being able to compare them to anything. I think that is everything, but correct me if I'm wrong. Off to do my exercise next Smile

Puppermint · 25/05/2020 07:58

Checking in to report another shocking set of figures on the scales. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been, bar full term pregnancy, and two stone heavier that the last time I did bootcamp a few years ago Blush

I’ve already done a workout this morning and had my first black coffee of the day. Next job is to make some celery soup for lunch and marinate the chicken for tea. Need to be organised if I’m going to be able to stick with this.

Good luck everyone!
