Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

Yikes, that'll teach me not to read.
I've had 2 eggs with buttered spinach (10am)
Just had stirfried in butter) courgette, red /yellow pepper and red onion.
Bugger, not on the good veg list. Never mind. I will know for next time.
I had 2 slices of emmental. 1L of water so far (amazing for me).
I think dinner might be a nice fatty chop plus some steamed green veg!

JustFrigginNameChange · 25/05/2020 14:26

@Ifeelfat does your original weight and starting weight differ?

1WildTeaParty · 25/05/2020 14:29

@roff are you sure that the count for your eggs is right? That sounds like quite a pile of them!

JustFrigginNameChange and athelstane ignore me.
Didn’t realise I had to populate all boxes. Thanks tho.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/05/2020 14:38

You're on, @Defiantly41!

Fuck me BIWI, this calorie-counting idea may not be so out there after all!

I've just done the MFP thing so far today, and what I though was ultra-healthy (chard, spinach in teaspoon butter, 1/2 romaine with tablespoon mayonnaise, 2 babybels and 2 creamy coffees) is over half my limit for the day!!

I may take this seriously for the week, and see exactly what I'm eating.

@Ifeelfat, don't worry, that's just an idiosyncracy of the first week - just make sure you've got the same weight in 'original weight' and 'weight 25th May' and from now on you just have to add your new weight each week.

BIWI · 25/05/2020 14:44

@JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx Bare Naked Noodles are very much allowed on this WOE.

They're a long-established product in Japanese cuisine, and known as shirataki noodles. Until Bare Naked Noodles were launched you could only really buy them in Asian supermarkets.

They come packed in liquid, which smells really fishy - drain them, rinse them well, and then dry fry them for 3 minutes before you use them.

They're great in stir-fries or soups, as a direct replacement for egg or rice noodles - and I have occasionally used them instead of spaghetti.

Ninkanink · 25/05/2020 14:46

But it is perfectly healthy! We know that LCHF is good for us, and a healthy woe.

It would make me sad if this starts to become about low calorie foods = healthy.

BIWI · 25/05/2020 14:46

@Ifeelfat

So, if nothing else, this has been massively useful in getting me to watch portion sizes

To be honest, this was one of the major reasons for introducing calorie counting - just so we could all see what we're eating. It doesn't mean that we need to count calories as from next week - but ultimately calories do come into play, especially as you get nearer your target weight. So having a good idea of the calories you're eating is no bad thing

OP posts:
AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/05/2020 14:47

Were they convincing spaghetti, BIWI? Or a bit 'why did I bother'?

Ninkanink · 25/05/2020 14:47

Or maybe I should be more accurate and say if this starts to be about high fat = unhealthy.

BIWI · 25/05/2020 14:55

@Ifeelfat

Occasionally I’ll have some sugar free chewing gum, or a small fruit yoghurt if I’m craving sweetness. If I try and ignore, I find it becomes an issue and gets worse. In this situation, would a small sugar free something be ok, or should I suck it up for a week?

Anything sugar-free will have added artificial sweeteners, so best not to! And the whole point of Bootcamp is to rid us our sweet tooth. So try your best not to succumb.

Definitely no to the fruit yoghurt! Full fat natural (Greek) yoghurt is the best.

OP posts:
AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/05/2020 14:56

No, no, no Ninkanink, I completely agree with you!

This WOE is ABSOLUTELY healthy.

I was just surprised to see how it totted up for this first week of reduced calories. And also, I can see how I may well have been massively over-eating my healthy foods Grin.

Low calorie for the sake of it is not healthy for long - you miss out on too many nutrients. Low calorie for one week to kick start awareness and changes in habit looks like it might be exactly what I need.

And THEN I can get back to eating butter with tablespoons Wink

ShagMeRiggins · 25/05/2020 14:56

Still catching p on thread, but BIWI can you not just freeze the milk?

Looks like it’s got the density of a brick, I can see some knives being sacrificed in the name of cooking the beast.

Re celeriac, JoyDivision, I say this again and again—rounded crinkle cutter, or any crinkle cutter, tbh.

Great for celeriac and for making chips and for various squashes. Great for finely chopping fresh herbs.

Off to read the thread now.

They're OK @AthelstaneTheUnready - just not quite the same texture.

@Ninkanink

It would make me sad if this starts to become about low calorie foods = healthy

There's absolutely no way that this will ever happen on Bootcamp!

Athelstane is absolutely right - the whole reason for making this week about counting calories (as well as carbs) is to really get us focused on what we're eating, and to act as a short, sharp shock back into weight loss.

Or maybe I should be more accurate and say if this starts to be about high fat = unhealthy.

And this will never be true either!

OP posts:
BIWI · 25/05/2020 15:03

Let me stress, in response to concerns expressed here, Bootcamp is always and will always be about eating good food, aiming for fresh, unprocessed foods as much as humanly possible. It's NOT about diet foods or those heavily processed to remove fat or calories

OP posts:
Ninkanink · 25/05/2020 15:07

I think I’ll be going on to bootcamp tomorrow. I’ve obviously got a bit of sensitivity when it comes to the calorie counting thing. Too many bad memories, I think.

BIWI · 25/05/2020 15:19

Probably a good idea - don't want to trigger anything!

The celery soup in BIWI's google doc is quite good. Lunch done.

csa26 · 25/05/2020 15:32

Hello everyone.

Doing much better today. Managed a 16-hr fast from last night! Started the day with black coffee instead of my usual milky tea and breakfast 👍 I think I’m probably still going to be over the calorie count. But as long as I stay off carbs and booze for the rest of the day, I should be succeeded on everything else.

Food so far:

Allotment snack: pepperami, babybel and a packet of Itsu seaweed. 200cal,

Ninkanink · 25/05/2020 15:37

Nah I’m ok - it’s not going to trigger anything. Momentary emotional/psychological reaction that’s all. 🙂

But omg no, I really can’t be doing with the faff of counting, either - had to re-count lunch four or five times because I forgot, lost track, missed something out, etc. Yes, I remember now, you need to have notebook and pen handy so you only have to weigh once and won’t forget!

I’ll try again tomorrow. I’m really not good with change, find it very unsettling, so I’m just overreacting.

Lunch was using up a few last bits in the fridge

  • mixed olives
  • little bit of smoked salmon
  • few slices of Milano salami

Plus a small carrot, half a tomato and 2 boiled eggs.

Didn’t work it out to the very last gram but I know I over estimated on carrot and tomato. Should come in at just under 400cals.

Fancy a cup of tea now!

Oh managed a 16+ fast as well, had my coffee black although I do prefer it with milk/cream.

venusandmars · 25/05/2020 15:41

I've been LCHF for a couple of years so I've just got used to what I think I can eat. Today I weighed my chicken for lunch (to work out the accurate calories, not to attempt to limit them) and the lamb mince was already in 100g bags in the freezer. HOWEVER, I measured the amount of butter I use... That's about 250 calories right there, so a rather large knob of butter whisked in to soup for lunch, and another rather large on my spinach and broccoli, that's 500 calories before I start eating anything else. Over the past weeks, all well as all my normal delicious healthy food, I've been adding in crisps and wine and lots of nuts.... No wonder I've put on weight.
I'm using this week as an adjustment in portion size and an awareness of how much butter I eat.
