Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

I've definitely found the calorie counting to be a downer too. Just a few hours to go though.

As a previous bootcamp graduate, i know it was my ability to eat whenever I felt like it, so long as it was low carb, that enabled me to break a lifetime of failed diets.

So roll on Monday...haloumi here I come.

BIWI · 31/05/2020 17:47

Sorry it was a downer @greengoose21b - hopefully all will be restored next week Smile

Fathead Pizza for tea tomorrow.....swoons...

How long does this carb flu last please? I've not managed to get anything done today. I'm so tired and lethargic.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/05/2020 18:08

Carb flu for me was one week. The insomnia lasts longer but everyone gets different symptoms. You HAVE. To power through IME because if you don't, you get it over and over. It's weird though. First time I had it terribly, then a week later my run was so easy. I didn't actually believe my body would magically start working without carbs but it did.

Now when I have a week off plan for Christmas or whatever, I notice the sluggishness, poor tummy and bloating with carbs. That's the real 'carb flu'!

BIWI · 31/05/2020 18:08

@SophieRay You should find that it will pass in the next day or so - but keep on with the electrolytes.

Of course, it's always possible that you've gone down with something else? Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

Just checking in, I was starving today (blaming on baby that decided to feed throughout the night).

I have been doing okay with IF, some days managing fasting for 17h but this morning I cracked after 15.

B: leftover sausage & feta frittata. Was a tiny slice though
L: Chaffle with scrambled egg, bacon and smashed avo
D: Spicy garlic chicken thighs, baby leaf and iceberg salad, few tiny chunks of wensleydale, mayo plus about a tsp of leftover hm tzatziki from dinner last night.

I haven't been counting calories because of BFing, and have definitely gone well over 1000 1500 some days, i'm looking forward to not feeling guilty about it from tomorrow. I know that in order for me to stick to this, I need to not be hungry or I will crash into chocolate.

Hats off to all of you for getting through the first week!!

SophieRay · 31/05/2020 18:33

Thanks BIWI and MrsTerry - so hope it doesn't last a week 🤦🏻‍♀️. The zero stuff is due to arrive tomorrow, hopefully that will help. Haven't had the insomnia,🤞🏻 I won't get that too!

ilovecherries · 31/05/2020 18:54

I’ve been very ‘ordinaire-ing’ all week. Finally starting to feel ‘the switch’. Still as itchy as hell but both today and yesterday I woke full of beans (not literally), and my waist is an inch smaller than last Sunday. So far today I’ve eaten a chicken salad. Dinner is a veg curry but it’s too hot for it yet. DH and DD have decided to have another night in the tent, but I’ve decided I have done my duty and will sleep alone in my comfy bed.

ShagMeRiggins · 31/05/2020 18:56

Now when I have a week off plan for Christmas or whatever, I notice the sluggishness, poor tummy and bloating with carbs. That's the real 'carb flu'!

That sums it up perfectly.

With LCHF, yes, there is a period for some in the early days of becoming fat adapted where the body can have all kinds of unpleasant effects. Let’s call it what it is: withdrawal symptoms from sugar addiction/carb addiction.

Once LCHF becomes a permanent way of eating, it’s amazing how sluggish (perfect word) you can feel after just a bowl of pasta, or a curry with rice, or even just a ham & cheese baguette. Sluggish and pregnant and it’s because of the whole carbs/sugar/insulin cycle of hunger and fatigue and hunger.

I don’t think StuntNun has signed up this time but she explains it beautifully. I’m sure others who have done all the reading can explain.

So yeah, MrsTerry, I like your definition of carb flu better than how it’s. or ally defined. And I’m gonna start using it! Grin

SquishyBones · 31/05/2020 18:57

What’s everyone having for dinners next week? I’m trying to do my asda order and I’m stumped!

I felt VERY unwell the first time. I kept reading about carb flu lasting a couple of days. I reckon I was an itchy, smelly, spotty, exhausted mess for a good fortnight. For good measure I had palpitations, insomnia, headaches and weird dreams as well. Then the magic happened and I went onto lose 80 lbs and it changed my life. As long as there is nothing concerning you health-wise, it’s just about getting through this phase with distraction, self care, electrolytes and fluids.
Ninkanink · 31/05/2020 19:09

I’ve not planned the week’s dinners yet. But tomorrow’s dinner is likely to be chilli with guacamole, along with a fresh coleslaw.

From the foods I’ve got in the fridge that need using, I think I’ll be doing something along the lines of baked chicken thighs with a Chinese cabbage stir fry; a chilli paneer with curried cauliflower or possibly a curried aubergine; Lamb tagine with roasted aubergine, maybe something Thai with fish and king prawns.

bibliomania · 31/05/2020 19:18

I've got some pork belly,, some salmon, loads of greens, and I'm eyeing up the aubergine and halloumi curry on the veggie recipe thread.

devoncreamtea · 31/05/2020 19:25

Yum @Ninkanink !
I do normal boring meals mostly @SquishyBones I have children so I cook family dinners pretty much as normal, but the kids have carbs as well. Next week will include - sausages (good ones with high meat content yum!) probably on bbq and with avocado/salad/gherkins etc
Chilli with sour cream, avo and cheese. No rice for me but brown rice for kids.
Chicken thigh roasted with flgv and prob potatoes as well for kids.
Steak and salad (I like rib eye best)
Things with salad like tuna mayo/egg mayo
Also I like making roll ups - eg salami rolled up with cream cheese in middle
And sandwiches out of two little gem lettuce leaves with tuna/cheese/egg etc filling.
Loads of ideas on line too! I’m looking forward to trying BIWI’s shepherds pie recipe too!

devoncreamtea · 31/05/2020 19:32

@SquishyBones if you are doing your order now - maybe make sure you add 20% mince; chicken wings/thighs; some pork chops/steaks - they are all usually pretty affordable and you can do loads with them. Get plenty of salad stuff and greens and perhaps look at your oil stocks - don’t forget butter!!!! Good luck! Online shopping fills me with dread, I always forget something vital!

Ninkanink · 31/05/2020 19:32

Oh we also have a couple of steaks. Which I will likely do with whatever veg is left by the time we get to Friday night. Usually we’d have a fresh salad but I won’t have any, so I’ll have to see what I’ve got in the freezer.

Tonight’s dinner is pork chops with woodland mushrooms, plus some fresh coleslaw.

devoncreamtea · 31/05/2020 19:34

Sounds delish! I’ve eaten but all this dinner chat is making me hungry!!!

Rshard · 31/05/2020 19:42

Well done for smashing week 1!

I’m looking forward to ditching the calorie counting but have found it useful for the kick start and re-assessing portion sizes. Looking forward to not doing tho… Still going to do the IF.

That’s impressive will power brassica!

venusandmars · 31/05/2020 19:43

Left overs tomorrow (with fried egg) then rest of the week is salmon and chorizo, shakshuka, chilli with guacamole and sour cream and cheese, Delia's Calufornian fish (sole topped with mayo/lime juice/cornichons/coriander mix, topped with grated cheese and grilled), and Jamie Oliver Mushroom curry but with halloumi instead of paneer. Lunches are either green soups or salads with eggs or avocado or ham&cheese depending on the balance. All mains with whatever low carb veg arrive in the veg box or are in the garden.

Ninkanink · 31/05/2020 20:03

Not the best photo...

Pork chop (with fat as I’m not calorie counting), mushrooms, coleslaw.

The coleslaw (carrot, red cabbage, cucumber and shallot) ended up not quite being a coleslaw, because it tasted so lovely and fresh that I decided not to bother adding too much to it; I just dressed it with lemon juice and parsley.

My can't be arsed is to bake a side of salmon in foil (add whatever, lemon etc) then let it cool, squish it with mayonnaise, all the salt, chopped dill and chopped cucumber. Eat with a spoon lettuce wrap or some kind of salad.

BIWI · 31/05/2020 20:43

@SquishyBones

If you have high fat mince and chicken thighs (skin-on) and some pork of some description (either pork belly or a roasting joint) that will give you the basis for three really good low carb meals

Hi all.Had a good day. 3 hour hike and then laying in the sunshine and a bbq. I’m chuckling at you saying it’s too hot Athelstane - I don’t think it’s hot enough! It’s not hot till it’s 30 for me. I definitely live in the wrong climate. But I do live as close to the continent as I can so we usually have it the warmest here.

Today I’ve had cooked breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, spinach and tomato. Boiled egg, sausage, avocado, cucumber, yogurt (weird picnic cobbled together quickly). BBQ - 2 chicken legs 1 burger, slaw and green salad. No where near enough water yet.

Good luck everyone with weighing tomorrow. 🤞

ExShield · 31/05/2020 20:54

I had mayo on my salad, with some grilled chicken. I was feeling smug about it and then I put it into MFP and the Mayo was 350 caloriesShock
