Geneva Meet-Up Thread. Anyone for wine and chocolate by the lake?

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 13:25

Thought that we could use a seperate thread to save us hijacking TML's thread with our Geneva chat.

Who is interested?

Assuming some of us still have young kids, we could meet during the day for glass of wine coffee somewhere child friendly, or a picnic? Botanical Gardens? Parc de Eaux Vives? Or nearer Nyon area. Depends where you all are.

Or do you want to get out sans enfants in the evenings?

Great idea. I'd really like to meet up (no tennis lessons or mani-pedis taking up my time, although God knows my toes could do with one).

I'm still bf my 16-week-old, and she's not taking a bottle yet (working on it), so daytime is best for me. I live in Collex (near Genthod and Versoix), and can catch a bus into Geneva fairly easily - Botanical Gardens would work for me.

On a separate note, does anyone have a dog out here?

Cadmum · 09/06/2009 14:48

Great idea. Thanks for the new thread.

Sans-enfants, while appealing, is virtually impossible for us... DH works long hours and is away often.

We are nearer Nyon but very mobile and happy to meet anywhere. I have 4 dcs 3, 7, 10, 12. We like the Botanical Gardens but I am not sure that we have been to the Parc de Eaux Vives.

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 14:55

I think most of you guys are from the other side of the lake to me. I am quite happy to come over to your side. Probably either Perle du Lac or Botanical Gdns best to get to with public transport.

I have a dog, a 8mth old puppy. No dogs allowed in the Botanical Gds so I would leave her at home. Unusual not be able to take her somewhere, they are very welcoming of dogs here I find.

Count me in
I am in Versoix

So let me know where ?

strudelface · 09/06/2009 16:01

Me too - I have 2 dcs 6 and 10, also can meet in evening if enough notice given to dh to get home in time. Let me know where and when.

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 16:13

Ok, shall we go for the Botanic Gdns then?

When?

Is next week too soon? I've got a houseful of visitors after that - although it could prove a good excuse to escape the in-laws... I'm around most of the summer otherwise...

MmeLindt - I was asking because our dog is being shipped here from Africa this week, and I'm looking for vet recommendations, pet shops (for basket etc), dog training classes. He'd run havoc in the Botanical Gardens however, so will definitely not be joining us!

strudelface · 09/06/2009 16:38

I can do next week - what about Weds afternoon? (as my dcs finish school early on Wednesdays)

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 16:41

I am going to be really busy next week as it is DH's 40th birthday and we are planning a big bash at the weekend.

Do you guys want to email me so that we can arrange things.

My email is [email protected]

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 16:45

I definitely cannot do next Wednesday as that is DH's birthday, but we are probably not going to get a day we can all manage.

OP posts:
Niftyblue · 09/06/2009 16:49

Would a night be better?

Dcs 8 and 6 are at school
Wednesday is football at Nyon after morning school !!!
I hate Wednesdays all that rushing around being a taxi

Just let me know and I will try and be there

strudelface · 09/06/2009 16:53

Have e-mailed you Mmelindt.

I can do nights too.....

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 16:54

MMeLindt just e-mailed you
then realised I had`nt put it was nifty

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 18:01

Got both emails. We can put it to the vote, see who is able when. There are enough of us that we could even do a daytime and an evening meetup.

OP posts:
Cadmum · 09/06/2009 19:32

Please don't worry about waiting for a convenient time that includes me...

Things are rather hectic here for the next few weeks so if there is a time that works, run with it and I will hope to come to the sequel!

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 19:55

Shall we try for an evening first then? That way we can coordinate our schedules to find a day that suits and check with the rest.

I am fully booked the next week or so but the week after would be good for me.

Who could make it the week of 22nd to 28th? I can do any evening except Mondays and Wednesdays.

Oh, and dogs.

I can recommend the vet in St Jean, I think his name is Robert Campbell. We went to him until we discovered that his partner's husband has a practice much closer to us which meant travelling right through town would no longer be necessary. He was friendly and good with the dog.

There is a good selection of doggy stuff in Manor in town. In Eaux Vives you will find a dog boutique, it is nice, the owners are very friendly. It is a bit pricey though so you might like to check out the place opposite Ikea in Lausanne for beds etc.

I actually just bought a bed (and a sun lounger for our incredibly spoilt pooch) from a garten centre in France. You often get quite nice pet stuff in the garten centres or DIY (Bricolage).

What kind of dog do you have?

Bloody typical DH is away from the Tuesday that week !!!

Count me in next time

Cadmum · 09/06/2009 21:10

My DH is currently away until the end of next week and then we have an onslaught of guests through Mid-July and then again from August 1... It figures!

Sorry.

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 21:16

What about during the day that week? My best days are Mondays or Fridays as the DC are in school over lunch.

OP posts:
cariboo · 10/06/2009 09:36

Oh, I'd love to meet! It's true June is hectic but I'm still fairly flexible. I live near Nyon but can travel.

cariboo · 10/06/2009 09:37

BTW, my dd was 9 yesterday & ds will be 6 mid-August.

strudelface · 10/06/2009 14:27

Just catching up with this thread....

During the day in the week starting 22nd I can do mon/Tues/Thurs without kids. Or Weds/Fri afternoon with kids.

Niftyblue · 10/06/2009 14:40

I can do Monday the 22nd for lunch
Depending where it is ?
