Caravan on driveway

kelpie35 · 02/08/2021 16:56

I have just returned home to find a caravan parked on my driveway.
I have been away for 5 days visiting my son.
Can someone advise me what I can do to get it removed. I have no idea who it belongs to.

She's posted on legal, not aibu. She wants actual suggestions. You can't sell someone else's property, that would be theft.

Saidtoomuch · 02/08/2021 18:26

It would have been stolen. It is common for thieves to hide in plain sight vehicles that may be fitted with tracking devices. They would have known you were away and probably thought if the rightful owner hasn't collected in a week or so then its fair game. Contact the police.

sergeilavrov · 02/08/2021 18:26

Annoyingly, the legal remedy that protects you from counterclaims is filing with a court for an eviction notice. This may be expensive.

If you put it on the road, any damage is sustains can be reclaimed from you - but the council will remove it when it’s on the public highway. Currently, this is a civil offence but the police can help you identify the owner. If they have used your electricity - that may be a different story.

Caravans are like gold dust at the moment with all the ‘staycation’ stuff. Stick a wheel clamp on it and sling it on eBay!
This.
Needapoodle · 02/08/2021 18:29

As IF any of you would actually sell it. Yeah fucking right.

Wombat64 · 02/08/2021 18:30

It might have a CRIS registration number on it.

Alternatively, take a pic & put it on the Owners FB group for the make. The caravan community is remarkably social.

lannistunut · 02/08/2021 18:35

I would ring the police first of all as if any have been reported stolen, it could be a match. This also gets it logged.

After that, you are going to have to wait and see what happens next.

Park your own car in front of it and start by knocking on neighbours' doors to see if anyone saw it arrive.

This definitely! Stick a link to the eBay listing on your local Facebook group and thank the 'previous' owner for their generosity in donating their caravans profits to charity. I'm sure they'll show up sharpish
PotteringAlong · 02/08/2021 18:40

ring the police. The plates on it should be linked to a car and they might be able to identify the owner

TalkingOutYerArse · 02/08/2021 18:42

What!

AngryWhompingWillow · 02/08/2021 18:45

@BedknobsNoBroomsticks

What's with all the cheeky fuckers and their parking on other people's driveways.
No idea. It happens so often on here, but I've never known it happen in real life.
Newnamefor2021 · 02/08/2021 18:47

Wow! Some people have no shame!

simbobs · 02/08/2021 18:48

Surely someone in the street must have seen it arriving?

AngryWhompingWillow · 02/08/2021 18:48

How can you possibly know what anyone on here would do? Confused

You don't know any of us.

How arrogant and presumptuous to assume you know what everyone else on here would do.

I think people are being lighthearted.

I'd sell it - but only after taking advice as to what would constitute reasonable efforts to reunite it with its owner, what I needed to do to transfer its ownership into my name etc.

skodadoda · 02/08/2021 18:52

@viques

Wow, as one cf parking thread draws to a close another opens with a bang!

Puts on a pan of popcorn and rinses out giant teapot in anticipation .....

This almost trumps Locked Parking Threads 1,2&3 😄
GintyMcGinty · 02/08/2021 18:54

It is bound to be one of your neighbours who knows you have been away on holiday.

Have you tried knocking on some doors and asking around?

Dillydollydingdong · 02/08/2021 18:55

I'd move it out onto the road and call the council to notify them.

FenceSplinters · 02/08/2021 19:04

Is there no reg plate on it?

Mouthfulofquiz · 02/08/2021 19:05

I would put it on a Facebook page. I’m not sure I could arsed to go round checking with neighbours!

SixesAndEights · 02/08/2021 19:09

Suggestions:

She calls 101 so the police can find its legal owner.
She calls the council, they can't do anything for a while, but at least it'll have been logged at an early stage
If things are left , do they not become the property of whoever owns the land after a time?

SixesAndEights · 02/08/2021 19:14

It happens so often on here, but I've never known it happen in real life.

I once looked out my front window to see a car straddling mine and my neighbour's drives. I went out, the poor woman in the passenger seat looked embarrassed. The man was talking to my neighbour at her door.

I asked him why he was parked on my drive.

"Because doesn't have a dropped kerb."

I told him to move it, and that whether or not his friends have dropped kerbs doesn't give him the right to park on other people's drives.

He could easily have parked on the road.

My neighbour, who is a lovely person, had said something to him when he arrived, but she is more of a pushover than me.

If I'd been familiar with MN, I would have blocked him in!!! Grin

Tryalittlemagic · 02/08/2021 19:16

Assume it's been dropped off there by mistake, dropperoffer realises mistake. Comes to move it, all have a chuckle. No harm done mate. Go about your lives.

AngelDelightUk · 02/08/2021 19:22

Block it in and see who knocks on the door

Does it have a clamp on it
