Caravan on driveway

kelpie35 · 02/08/2021 16:56

I have just returned home to find a caravan parked on my driveway.
I have been away for 5 days visiting my son.
Can someone advise me what I can do to get it removed. I have no idea who it belongs to.

First of all, block it in. Pour yourself some wine. Refuse to move your car when the owner inevitably turns up.

Herecomesthesun70 · 02/08/2021 17:32

It can't be moved because the ranger it needs to pull it is locked behind gates with a truck behind it

stealthninjamum · 02/08/2021 17:35

Can I be the first to suggest penguin bollards?

But Hugh grant will be along soon when he’s finished playing buckaroo with Grobelaar
Datsandcogs · 02/08/2021 17:38

Put a photo on local FB pages and then block drive with your own car so that the CFers have to apologise before moving it.

MurielSpriggs · 02/08/2021 17:39

I know next to nothing about caravans, except I remember as a kid they could be wheeled around in a way that cars can't. Couldnt you get two or three people to help you gently wheel it onto the road. From there it's between the council and the owner!

notapizzaeater · 02/08/2021 17:41

I think people are just going bloody mad this year!

Do your neighbours know when it appeared ?

2bazookas · 02/08/2021 17:41

Call the police and report "a stolen caravan has been abandoned on my drive and it's been broken in to. Looks like someone forced the door. ".

SuperSange · 02/08/2021 17:44

Does the numberplate match one of the nearby cars in the street?

PyjamaFan · 02/08/2021 17:44

Move this to AIBU. The vipers have lots of helpful suggestions for occasions such as this.

Is anyone in the caravan? really, really hope so

Bargebill19 · 02/08/2021 17:46

Wind up the stays and release the handbrake. Gently shove and problem solved. Stays can be raised with the use of a spanner. 😉

Completely agree, but you will be overshadowed by probably the best Parking thread ever due to resolve at 7.30 so everyone is feeling mighty silly tonight.
Berthatydfil · 02/08/2021 17:56

The price of caravans has sky rocketed this year - so don’t rush to give away free etc.
I’m imagining someone has bought the van and has paid for it to be delivered by the seller and they have misread the address eg 25 clover lane not 25 clover crescent etc.
There is probably a very frantic new caravan owner somewhere.
Have a close look at the front /side windows and there should be a CRIS number etched on it - this is an anti theft database that should hold the owner (previous) owners details.

SixesAndEights · 02/08/2021 17:57

It's a long time till 7.30 though.

I would move it onto the road and wash your hands of the matter.

What is it with the CFs!!!
Park your car across the driveway and lose the keys for a few days.

CakeandGo · 02/08/2021 17:58

I’d knock on all the neighbours doors to ask whether it belonged to any of them.
I’d call 101 and see if they would take a report, get something logged with them.

Berthatydfil · 02/08/2021 18:00

A brand new caravan could be £30k and even an old wreck could be worth a couple of grand, OP are you willing to be liable for the costs of loss or damage to it if you deliberately move or damage it as per some of the suggestions in the thread?

ChateauMargaux · 02/08/2021 18:02

Advertise on AirBnB .. there is hardly any available accommodation in the UK at the moment.. as well as my best find of a house for £70,000 per week in Lancashire, self catering, I also found a 'wild camping' offering for £100 per night.. it was just a field... nothing else!! You could make a few quid before the weekend!

IndieTara · 02/08/2021 18:05

I bet the owner is at least related to somebody with a Ford Ranger

Bargebill19 · 02/08/2021 18:07

If it’s new, it could be stolen. It’s typical of a certain type of scumbag to steal a caravan and leave it somewhere in sight, to see if it’s reclaimed, before than removing it and either selling it on or using it themselves.
Personally I would just move it off your drive and deny all knowledge. Not your problem then.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 02/08/2021 18:08

Get it on eBay Grin

@IndieTara. 😂😂 I am also waiting for 7.30.

It's been left on the ops property without permission. I aren't sure she'd be liable for anything!
