Drugs test at work this morning

If you have smoked cannabis within the past week could this show up if tested.

When I was finished my nightshift this morning I was asked to go for a random drugs test where I had to provide a sample of my urine.

Worried I could lose my job now.

Well, what have you been taking and when did you take it?

Did you know you were liable to be tested?

ChinkChink · 30/03/2018 13:26

And did you?

What does it say in your T&C of employment about this?

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 30/03/2018 13:27

Depends on how often your smoke.

Only smoked cannabis at a friends house last Saturday night when I had a bit to drink.

I do know that in my workplace I am liable to be tested from time to time which makes what I have done even sillier.

And yes it would show up. Cannabis is one of the worst for staying in your system for s long time

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 30/03/2018 13:28

Single use says 8 days. So highly likely still in your system.

Hypermice · 30/03/2018 13:31

Yup. Really long half life. Builds up too so regular use can mean it’s in your system for weeks. It’s likely your test will be positive.

SarahSiddons · 30/03/2018 13:32

Does your employer have a drugs & alcohol policy? I assume so if you are being drug tested at work. Is your job safety critical? Before the test did they ask you to declare whether or not you’d taken drugs and what did you say? It does seem likely the cannabis will show up and yes I expect it’s possible you could lose your job.

Lj8893 · 30/03/2018 13:35

I think it will depend on your employer and what shows up.

My stepbrother was drugs tested at work, and was found positive (stronger than cannabis), fortunately his employer put him under a supervision programme for a period of time rather than dismiss him. (First offence and very very good at his job, and a very specialist role that would have been difficult to replace)

Doesn't make any of it right however, but try not to panic.

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 13:39

I was asked before the test to declare if I had taken drugs and said no as I was scared of tellin the truth.

I work as a care assistant so I know there is a possibilty now of losing my job.

I don't think this is going to go well for you OP, as a care-worker your integrity is very important and lying when asked is a huge issue.

I say this an (ex) nurse.

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 13:44

Yes I know, guess I paniced when I was put on the spot insted of telling the truth, was hoping there would be no sign of it shoing up I guess.

Raven88 · 30/03/2018 13:55

Why not come clean about it? It will likely show up.

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2018 13:57

Is it normal for care workers to be drugs tested?

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 13:58

I know I really should come clean on it when I am next in work tomorrow night.

OP posts:
SleepFreeZone · 30/03/2018 14:00

I wouldn’t come clean as then you will definitely lose your job. If it was just a small amount then there’s a chance you could be okay.

tootsweet30 · 30/03/2018 14:01

We do this at my work. If you admit to it and your test is negative you will be fired in my work . We've actually had this and the senior person said it was a shame he had admitted to it!

I would either resign before test comes back or cross my fingers tbh.

Raven88 · 30/03/2018 14:01

Or you could phone right now and speak to your manager. Drug tests are quick.

Do you have to register as a care worker where you are. I'm in Scotland and we have to register with the SSSC.

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2018 14:02

Presumably teacher and nurses don't

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 30/03/2018 14:07

I'm a nurse in the NHS & random testing is not in my contract

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 14:08

Really dont want to admit it incasefor some reason the test comes back negative..

Been panicing ever since they asked me to come in for the test at the end of my shift. at 10.

notapizzaeater · 30/03/2018 14:11

baring admin cock-ups - which are not impossible- it will come back positive, yes.

It will also still be affecting you at work
