Our old clomid thread is no longer allowing new comments, and it's taken me 24 hours and multiple failed comments to understand why - we filled it up So thought I'd start a new one...

@Jemstar33 thank you!

Jemstar33 · 09/09/2019 17:40

@ThuuSA I think cycle buddies 😄 I’m on cd14 today. Good luck!

@seven201 hope the acupuncture relaxes you, seems to help a lot of people. I’m going to look into it too

doomkittycleo · 09/09/2019 19:22

@Marmite83, need urgent advice, are you around?

If not, I’d appreciate anyone else’s input.

We had planned to start IVF next Wednesday with Buserelin (down regulation medication) on CD21. We are due to see the nurse at the IVF clinic on Friday to have a scan and get our prescriptions to start.

But I have had loads of EWCM (the first time since clomid) the past couple of days and just had a gut feeling tonight. I took an opk and got a blaring positive, so followed it up with the clear blue one and got a smiley face too.

My question is, should we be abstaining before starting the Buserelin or should we give it one last shot whilst we have the chance? (possibly saving £6600 if successful).

I need answers ASAP as DP is currently aware of the positive opk and waiting for me to get out of the bath.

I’m nervous as hell as BD has felt really awkward lately, but will probably feel like an idiot if we miss an opportunity to do this naturally.

Marmite83 · 09/09/2019 19:40

Hi @doomkittycleo, I did short protocol so no down regulation. I started shots on cd2 like with Clomid so we knew for sure I wasn't pregnant. My understanding is that if you're doing longer protocol you should abstain as you would start shots before a bfp would show up. I guess the question is, what will you regret more, not trying when you know you're ovulating or delaying ivf a month if you don't get your bfp?

seven201 · 09/09/2019 19:41

I just had a very unrelaxing but quite comedy acupuncture session. The ceiling in the room below collapsed (no one hurt) and then 5 mins later the fire alarm went off (dust) and no one had the code to turn it off 🤣

Marmite83 · 09/09/2019 19:43

Have you discussed short protocol at all with your consultant? I'm not suggesting it would be right for you as everybody is different but might be worth asking the question if it hasn't already been discussed. We decided if was best for me due to pcos (which my consultant now isn't sure I have!)

Jemstar33 · 09/09/2019 19:44

@seven201 bloody hell! 😂 Hope you got it for free

doomkittycleo · 09/09/2019 19:47

@Marmite83 that’s the thing, the nurse never said anything about abstaining when we agreed to start on CD21, so I can only assume it’s ok. She did say starting on CD1 or 2 was also an option, but would we end up having to order meds (and paying for them) early to be sure we had them on time (even for CD 1 or 2 start?)

The down regulation meds are only to stop ovaries producing more follicles, so if an embryo was already developing would that be affected? I can only assume my lining wouldn’t be affected if I’d already ovulated?

doomkittycleo · 09/09/2019 19:50

@Marmite83 they said short protocol wasn’t suitable due to me having had several large cysts on clomid.

doomkittycleo · 09/09/2019 19:52

Because of me having several cysts every cycle since clomid, this would be hopefully my first normal cycle since the clomid messed up my cycles.

I am hoping that this might be our last shot, success. DD was conceived the last cycle before IVF as well (I guess cus the pressure was off, it kinda helped).

Marmite83 · 09/09/2019 20:52

@doomkittycleo, my clinic said the same thing about the meds although they did say I could get the first couple of days worth from them and then order the rest. But then my consultant gave me progesterone to delay af by a week anyway so I had time to ensure it was a bfn before ordering meds. My clinic didn't mention abstaining during our IVF cycle until I asked! Kinda knew the answer but wanted to double check.

I don't know if the stims could potentially harm a baby if you did get pregnant. Maybe dtd if that's what you choose and check with the clinic in the morning. Might mean delaying ivf a month though.

seven201 · 09/09/2019 20:53

@Jemstar33 no it wasn't free. I was too chicken to ask

@doomkittycleo sorry, didn't see your post earlier. I really am no help but there are some good ivf threads on mumsnet. Clomid is known to reduce/stop ewm though (did for me) so maybe no you've stopped it's just naturally back again? My friend got pregnant (was sadly an ectopic) after she started ivf meds but before anything else had started. I don't know the details/if it was the long or short one so can't help. Do try on one of the ivf threads. Good luck!

doomkittycleo · 09/09/2019 21:34

@Marmite83, the Buserelin isn’t a stim medication, it’s to down regulate. I wouldn’t be able to start the stim meds until after af had appeared anyway.

It won’t be a full cycle delay anyway as she gave me the choice between day 21 start or a day 1 or 2 start, so it’s only really delayed by a week if we weren’t supposed to BD.

That’s good to know you can just get a couple of days worth of meds first, so if I go on Friday and tell her we’ve BD’d, if it’s a problem she’s probably going to say we’ve got to start on CD1 instead.

So in that case we can just wait for af and get a few days worth of Buserelin.

I’m a bit shocked you had to ask about abstaining. I would’ve thought that if it was that important they would’ve drummed it into you.

God this is gonna be the longest TWW ever now 🙈.

@seven201 yeah that was my point, the clomid really did dry up CM, so if CM is back to normal, hopefully that means it’s out of my system. You do hear stories of people who get their bfp the first cycle off clomid, but I’ve had cysts the last 3 cycles (despite not taking clomid during the past 2).

Marmite83 · 09/09/2019 21:47

Sorry @doomkittycleo, I didn't mean to say stim. I had Buserelin as a possible trigger but ended up using Gonasi instead. I've got everything crossed for you that you get your bfp and don't have to do IVF at all. I was a bit shocked they hadn't mentioned abstaining too!

@seven201 that definitely doesn't sound relaxing!

doomkittycleo · 09/09/2019 22:16

@Marmite83 I didn’t know they could use it as a trigger.

The nurse just told me that it “shuts down your ovaries” and shrinks any cysts or follicles, therefore when you start stimming you’re starting from 0 and reduced risk of over responding.

ThuuSA · 10/09/2019 09:55

@Jemstar33 sending preggo fairy dust you way Smile.

@seven201 wow lol sounds hectic, if I may ask i hear alot of people that are ttc doing acupuncture, besides relax you how does it help to concieve?

BinkyB4 · 10/09/2019 11:17

Hi all!
I had a scan yesterday which showed two dominant follicles so was sent home to do the trigger shots last night and then start progesterone pessaries in a couple of days.
Didn’t sleep very well fretting about having multiples ( there were another two follicles there too but they said they probably wouldn’t mature) and an ectopic pregnancy.........!
Found it all a bit stressful yesterday but feel a bit more relaxed about everything now.

@seven201 that sounds like a nightmare!! Not relaxing at all.....!

Rinoa · 10/09/2019 13:15

Hope everyone is well!
Got my CD9 scan tomorrow to see how Clomid is working. Hope it's doing its thing, I am hopeful though as I've been feeling some cramps on both sides of my ovaries !

Jemstar33 · 10/09/2019 13:18

@BinkyB4 sometimes I’m glad I’m not being scanned as that would stress me too! If I end up with multiples I’ll be happy, as long as they’re healthy and I am too. I just think what will be will be. I’ve found on clomid I can actually feel my ovulation, something I’ve not experienced before which is worrying me because I think there must be lots of eggs being released! But what will be, will be.

@ThuuSA and to you to!

seven201 · 10/09/2019 17:38

@ThuuSA I'm going for fertility reasons. My acupuncturist says most of her patients go for fertility. No idea if it actually helps or not! I know I sleep well afterwards though!

seven201 · 10/09/2019 18:11

@BinkyB4 sounds like a positive appointment. I like to get worried about things and then I'm usually fine from the next day too.

@Rinoa good luck for tomorrow

ThuuSA · 10/09/2019 18:25

@seven201 okay thank you, I am willing to try anything....Pressed, eating pineapple, banting diet....it's emotionally exhausting Sad

AmyMaria2 · 10/09/2019 22:04

Hi everyone thanks for replies re preseed the other day, used it this evening for first time, partner wasn't to keen on it but I didn't mind, only used 1/4 to start with, going to try it again tomorrow (should be ovulating) x

Rinoa · 11/09/2019 11:33

I've got 2 follicles growing on my right ovary! I heard her say : 1x 13, 1x 16. I'm assuming means the size ? Have to come back Friday for another scan!

DobbieFreeElf · 11/09/2019 13:00

Hi,

I've been lurking on this thread for a while so thought it was about time I joined in and introduced myself!

I've just had my first round of Clomid (5 pills from day 2-7) prescribed as a last try before IVF for unexplained secondary infertility.

Back story: 1 DS 11/2016 (TTC c2), pregnant again 9/2017 (TTC c1) long drawn out miscarriage 12/2017 finally ended with a ERPC. After falling pregnant so easily it then took (what seemed like ages) until pregnant 6/2018 miscarriage 8/2018. Haven't fallen pregnant again since. Tried everything from acupuncture to hanging the time of day we BD!!!

Referred for investigation 10/2018, first appointment, 1/2019, bloods good, scans ok, tubes flushed, hysteroscopy etc. There was some signs of scarring on my cervix seen at the hysteroscopy and it was dilated. Husband's swimmers count at 11mill 1/2019 and 16mill 4/2019 so low but apparently they are good looking and mostly swim in the right direction!

I usually have a 28day cycle but i start spotting day 24ish. Peak opk is usually on day 16-18 so a short luteal phase. At my last consultant appointment I was told to go down the IVF routehowever, having done my research, argued my point to try Clomid as studies have shown it can lengthen the luteal phase. Consultant agreed (after asking about how much protein I eat?!)

Day 10 now, started doing opks from day 8 still showing low but Bding every other day, practice sessions!

I see lots of you have scans regularly, this isn't something that we were offered, should I have requested it?

As I say, 3 months of this then we shall be starting IVF in the new year if there's no positive outcome...
