Cycle Buddies March/April

I know its a bit early but I am awaiting for AF to arrive this month so we can start our second fresh IVF cycle.
Our history is I'm 41, ttc 3 years now, unexplained infertility. AMH is 1.7 We had a fresh cycle last year (march/April as well!) and had 2 embryos put back. They stuck until 9dp5dt.
We have changed clinics - as I couldn't go back to the first one, nothing they did wrong really, just in my head I couldn't go back there.
New clinic does seem more thorough, so we are going to be on different drugs, still buserelin to down reg but then onto Menopur. I am going to have the scratch this time too.
Last year the cycle buddies thread on here was invaluable to me so if anyone else is starting soon it would be lovely to have the support.

Hi heart it only takes one good egg remember that. When are you expecting day 1?

OP posts:
Heart2God · 17/02/2018 18:10

Thanks dear. The whole thing is just so disheartening.
CD 1 expected 3rd of March.
Not long to wait.

Yorkshirelass27 · 19/02/2018 11:13

Hi both hope you are both well. Please try not to panic Heart2God, I was in a similar situation last time and as bjonesreborn said, it only takes one. I know it's easier said than done, but my advice would be to try to 'sit on the fence'- don't think of worse case or best case, just take it step by step.
Bjonesreborn I was on 300 of gonal f last time, on the short protocol. It was horrible smelling and tasting soil! I'm having a different drug this time around and an even higher dose.
I asked my consultant about the scratch, who said they don't normally do it until there have been three unsuccessful cycles, so it's looking like that's not an option for me. Don't think others have had to have three failed cycles before having it though.
Hope you both have a good week

bjonesreborn · 19/02/2018 11:43

Hi yorkshire I think I was on a higher dose of gonal f on my long protocol last time, but no soil smells, sounds horrible! What drugs are you going to be on this time round?
That’s a shame about the scratch, I did push for it to be honest.
Hope you both have a good week

Heart2God · 19/02/2018 19:22

How r U both. Hope U all had a great weekend.
Thanks for ur advice yorkshirelass. Its hard not to panic and think Of The worst case- I am getting panic attacks now. I will try harder not to overthink things.

Don't understand why they reserve scratch for people with 3 failed cycles?

Got a call from the clinic today. I am going to be on Gonal F but don't know the dose yet. Oh dear Final F is most expensive of them allHmm.
Don't know if I will be able to afford another cycle of this one fails.

bjonesreborn · 19/02/2018 19:38

it does seem unfair about the scratch, especially as we are self funded, you think we could have whatever we wanted seeing as we are paying for it! To be honest, I wasn't giving them an option to say no to me about the scratch.
heart try not to think about "if this one fails" I know its so hard but to be honest when ours failed a year ago I was adamant that I couldn't go through it again/wouldn't be able to afford it. But a year on and I'm ready to go again. There are lots of people on here that do their next cycle pretty much straightway after a fail, that wasn't for me personally.
Anyway this is the lucky thread and its going to work for all of us!!
I have found a Mindful IVF app - its free up until transfer day, I listened to the first one last night. Who knows whether it will do any good but its worth a try!

OP posts:
Heart2God · 19/02/2018 19:44

Yeah, I concur, this is the LUCKY thread.

What is the app called bjones, so I can check it out

bjonesreborn · 19/02/2018 19:57

It’s just called mindful ivf

OP posts:
bjonesreborn · 21/02/2018 17:52

Did you find it heart I quite like the man’s voice, but keep falling asleep so have to put it on again!!
Hope you’re both ok. A week today until I finish my hideous job, wasn’t quite the way I planned this year but it was making me so stressed that I had to get out!

OP posts:
Heart2God · 21/02/2018 19:21

@bjones, that's a bold decision you made- quiting ur job. Hope U r OK. U don't need stress really especially not now.
Yes dear, I downloaded the app via google play. The man's voice is very soothing. Quite like it too. Thanks for that.

How did you maintain your fridge medications in the right temperature the last time. I am thinking of purchasing a fridge thermometer before my meds arrive.

Hi yorkshirelass, how are you doing.

bjonesreborn · 21/02/2018 19:42

Hi heart it was a bold decision but I was going to end up very ill and very single haha. Don’t want to say what I do just in case i’m outed (though sure my boss wouldn’t be on these threads!!) but i work closely with children - the kids weren’t the prioblem in this case!!
I just kept them in the fridge - well my best friend’s actually as mine not big enough - and didn’t over think about the temp. They seemed to be fine. I’m going to be on menopur this time which doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge.
Hope you’re both ok

Yorkshirelass27 · 22/02/2018 10:17

Hi both hope you are well. I'm ok thanks. Sounds like I may work in a similar area bjonesreborn and totally understand how stressful it can be. It's not an area I want to stay in, it's just finding that 'get out'.
Heart, I also just kept my meds in the fridge, have to say I didn't check the temperature, the seemed to be ok.
I'm going to be on Merional this time, not sure how this is kept. Going back to an early conversation, yes I am a bit confused about the scratch, I wasn't aware it was only for those who had several unsuccessful attempts. You would think paying privately it wouldn't be an issue.
Hope you are both having a relaxing day

bjonesreborn · 22/02/2018 16:33

I think maybe they are doing the scratch forme as I am a bit older than you girls. But still doesn’t seem right that they choose who does and who doesn’t get it.
I wonder if we do do the same job yorkshire - does your job title rhyme with granny?! Not sure if I can continue this line of work, I love it but goodness me it’s so hard when I desperately want children and come across people who really don’t seem that bothered about theirs! Last day of the week for me so hopefully a nice lie in tomorrow.

OP posts:
Yorkshirelass27 · 23/02/2018 11:24

I know exactly what you mean Bjonesreborn. Not a granny, but I rhyme with preacher, so very similar. It's a very challenging environment and as you said, often very stressful.
I have several friends who are having their 2nd/3rd/4th child, with multiple photos on FB daily, which I find quite difficult. I don't know about you both, but out of all my friends, I'm the only one who hasn't had a child and who is needing medical intervention.
Hope you had a nice lie in Bjonesreborn. How are you doing Heart, any update on your meds?

Heart2God · 24/02/2018 13:40

Hello both, how is weekend going? talking about stressful job; mine involves standing all day long and customers are not very forgiving.

My drugs arrived this morning @yorkshirelass. The cost was not as expensive as I feared. Got them from healthcare at home and a lot cheaper than the quote I got from ASDA. Everything was just under 1000 💷. Just thought I should mention that if you wanted to check them for your meds.

@bjones, I have just chucked the medications in the fridgeGrin I am longer worried about the fridge temperature. Hope they will keep good like U said.
Yeah, and the Ivf mindful app is amazing. Thanks.

Hope U all have a relaxing weekend.

wombats · 24/02/2018 14:08

Hi all, alright if I join? I am due for a natural FET this month. Just waiting for my period to start, always on time but now dragging her feet, of course!

bjonesreborn · 24/02/2018 21:24

Hi wombats welcome. Sorry you find yourself here as well. Have you had 1 fresh before then? How many Frosties do you have? Wishing you all the luck for this one
yorkshire I didn't get my lie in yesterday, woke up bang on 6am as per usual!
heart glad your drugs arrive, thats brilliant saving, They will be fine in the fridge I'm sure.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend, sun was shining today which makes everything a bit brighter

OP posts:
Heart2God · 25/02/2018 08:40

Welcome @wombats, finding oneself on this thread can be ♥breaking but fingers crossed we will all be successful this cycle.
Its good you have some frosties; wishing you the best of luck.

wombats · 25/02/2018 09:15

Thanks for the welcome. I've had one fresh transfer that wasn't successful, have two blasts on ice and planning to transfer just one this month. We haven't any DC, had an ectopic so know we can fall, but no joy since. AF arrived this morning so looking forward to getting on with it!

Heart2God · 25/02/2018 10:18

Hi @wombats, glad your AF arrived. What does natural FET entail? Do you just have transfer on CD14? Any meds to prepare the Uterus?
I am having a fresh cycle with low AMH and hoping upon hope to have some frosties. My consultant said he is not expecting many eggs but I am hopeful( or am I being unreasonableHmm)

Yorkshirelass27 · 25/02/2018 14:43

Hi all and welcome Wombats.
Thanks for letting me know about the meds cost Heart, will look into it. I've been told I have to pay an extra £300 as I'll be taking a higher dose this time. Don't want to be negative about this time around but I think if it isn't successful then I might look into going abroad and buying the meds myself. It doesn't feel like we particularly get a personal service where we currently go and think when we are spending so much money we ought to.
Bjonesreborn re waking up early, I would normally suggest a class of 'pop' the night before, but it's a bit of a no no for us at the moment!
Lots of luck with your next transfer Wombats, keep us posted.
Back to work tomorrow, ugh!

wombats · 26/02/2018 18:49

Thanks for the welcomes.

Heart, natural FET will be without any medication. Some clinics do a trigger and/or progesterone but I'll have no extras. Just home LH monitoring and they'll pop one of our embryos in a week after I ov. I thought it sounded appealing but now getting a bit nervous about it!

Yorkshire and Bones, you're due to start DR next week, I believe. Any last minute preparations for you? Any particular coping strategies for this cycle?

Hope you're all warm and dry tonight xx

bjonesreborn · 27/02/2018 13:23

How’s everyone doing?
Glad your af arrived wombat
The clinic will phone me tomorrow with a time for scratch on Friday, am panicking as due to be snow coming thurs/fri and worrying I won’t get there.
As for preparing...i’ve taken lots of different supplements this time and (think) I am better prepared in my head. I start injections Sunday, clinic have advised to do them in the evening so I have told oh we are going out for the day, otherwise I can see myself just pacing up and down all day getting myself in a state!!

OP posts:
Heart2God · 27/02/2018 13:51

Hi @wombats, I understand about being nervous. So many factors we have no control over; It's hard not to worry.

@bjones good luck with your last day at work 2morrow and I hope the weather eases up a bit for you on Friday.

bjonesreborn · 27/02/2018 21:02

Thanks heart 5.30 tomorrow won’t come quick enough!!
