interesting blog post from a mother of a DS daughter who was blasted by a 5-10 minute diatribe containing all the old stereotypes about people with DS at a Frakie Boyle show. I'm turning off any TV show he's on in future.

Also complained that the terrorists holding ken bigley (was that the hostages name?) because he was sick of waiting around/seeing it on the news before they'd actually killed him, ending the routine with "just hurry up and cut his effing head off."
I thought that joke was completely wrong, but I still like Billy Connolly and accept that comedy is a risky business, sometimes you are going to make a joke which in your head is funny or cutting edgebut when you say them in front of an audience they are just way off (happens to people all the time in real life,you think something is funny but when you say it its hurtful/nasty). If a comedian makes these sort of mistakes once or twice when they misjudge the tone, like connolly, I'm inclined to forgive them if 99% of the time I think their acts are to my taste. If it's what they regularly trade on then I'll judge away.

I must point out, however, that the 'crippled granny' and 'blind orphan called Joe' were, in fact, in a song that Billy Connolly wrote that was a pisstake of country and western songs. It wasn't actually making fun of said granny and orphan.
