interesting blog post from a mother of a DS daughter who was blasted by a 5-10 minute diatribe containing all the old stereotypes about people with DS at a Frakie Boyle show. I'm turning off any TV show he's on in future.

blog here

Grauniad article on it here

Brilliant idea desi.....

I like nothing more than a hard slap across the face, keeps friendships alive I always find....

southeastastra · 18/04/2010 21:25

dunno why do you think it's so funny to be so nasty to others

DeFluff · 18/04/2010 21:26

TSH - Sorry I just don't agree with you (but am happy to agree to disagree ). This bit

"... and an individual who's method of attack involves a liberal use of insults, hectoring and a colourful smattering of profanities. I have no respect for the latter whatsoever. Furthermore if a fellow poster is to be reprimanded for their faults, surely its best served with a little intelligence. Assuming the moral high ground, I would have thought, means just that. Denigrating another poster for their ethical shortcomings through the use of insults, puerile jokes etc is hypocritical and it completely detracts from whatever message it is that you want to convey".

makes you sound like you think your word is law and that you are the judge and jury of mumsnet. It really isn't and you really aren't.

I'm sorry that you don't have respect for my posting style but not as sorry as I am for those effected by DP's posting. Riven's question re her dd was absolutely heart breaking. DP's continual nastiness regarding Lenin's lifestyle must be very hard for her to read.

I understand on an intellectual level that silly, nasty posts against DP are completely self defeating, as I expressed further up the thread to the namechangers who were being a bit stupid and immature (imo). However, DP posts vile crap and as an adult I can choose how I respond to that. If you think the occasionl swear word makes me thick, that's fine with me, I really can't be bothered to get into a who has more post grad quals than who competition.

And as for her not hectoring anyone in a minority errrr?????? The disabled, immigrants, lesbians and gay men?????

On the free speech bit I'm still thinking about it to try to work out where I think the lines, if any, should be drawn. I could be some time

2shoes · 18/04/2010 21:29

i think the people defending DP should read her posts on this thread.

Assume you are going to apply this to 'Desi' then and her 'fuck 'em' post TSH?

And I think you'll find that in the world outside MN DP's is probably not the minority view so 'view' not 'group' is misleading.

TSH - Apologies throught you were talking about me (Am a bit 'me' obsessed at mo ). If you're on about the namechangers and/or DP (I'm not fussy ) I'm with you!

DeFluff · 18/04/2010 22:13

Am off to bed but I'm not too clear re the distinction on minority group / views or why the distinction matters.

chipmonkey · 18/04/2010 22:20

A person might not have a choice about belonging to a particular group i.e you do not choose to be gay or black.
We do choose our views.
