Absolutely shocking attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall North Manchester. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected by this terrible atrocity.

My son in laws friend was one of those critically injured - he was stabbed in the kidney .
the ground is burning under our feet - time for British Jews to get out and leave

I hope he makes a good recovery, as do the other two poor souls who were injured.

Craftysue · 02/10/2025 22:25

Sadly I'm certain that there will be people in this country who will be celebrating this attack tonight.
I watched an interview on the BBC with 2 Jewish teenagers, one of whom asked what had they done wrong. I hope those with hatred in their hearts have an answer for him because I don't

I am so so sorry. I hope your son in laws friend is ok. I don’t know what would help you stay here. We need to grow some balls and not be afraid to call out the almost continual anti semitism here. The one grain of hope is that many who have been dragged into antisemitism are just ignorant rather than actively semetic

95% of British Jews consider the chant ‘From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free’ to be an antisemitic call to destroy the Jewish state. Only 2% do not.

Only one-third (34%) of British Jews believe that Jews have a long-term future in the UK.

Half of the Jewish community has considered leaving Britain in the past two years due to antisemitism. Among 18-24-year-olds, it is two-thirds (67%). The main reason is the surge in antisemitism since 7th October 2023, cited by 76% of respondents.

New polling shows Britain’s failure to protect its Jews

New polling of British Jews by Campaign Against Antisemitism has revealed a number of alarming insights. The study covers how secure British Jews feel, their views on the criminal justice system and Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, where they believe...

This is so sad. @lisalisa you should feel as welcome in this country as anybody else and I’m very sorry you’re thinking of leaving due to this hatred.

There seems to be a very deliberate narrative being pushed that Israel is a nation of terrible people, and that what is happening in Gaza is totally unrelated to what any of the people in Gaza have done. It's as if 'ordinary Gazans' didn't cheer the dead body of Shani Louk. (Which is not to say that every Gazan supports Hamas - but a lot of them seem to.)

On your last point it seems the latest figures in the Gaza Strip suggest a 37% backing for Hamas, @EdithStourton - happily no longer a majority but still far too many

Edited to add they'll inevitably be told they've got it all wrong, @1dayatatime, and that's yet one more area where jews are singled out
With any other group we'd be told that dismissing their perspective was unthinkable, but some seem to consider jews unique in needing to be instructed in what's targeted at them and what isn't

Oh we notice. But people are scared to call it out. People like nomas and Goinfor who try to silence the truth.

I think you just want an argument.

No one has silenced truths. I’ve said to post facts. If you don’t keep challenging assumptions, they escalate. People were saying that Muslims are celebrating in the streets, and when you ask for proof, you’re accused of shutting people down.

You can’t denounce terror against one minority group, whilst simultaneously stoking baseless lies about another.

Baseless fear. Lol.

This is just awful - I can’t even imagine living with this kind of feeling. After the atrocities of the last century we should have ensured the Jewish community were safe and protected wherever they are. We have failed the Jewish community and we have failed all those who died fighting to ensure this kind of persecution never occurred again

Not baseless, proven. Multiple people have reported the same things happening but we already know it happens anyway, there's ample footage from 7/10

HepzibahGreen · 02/10/2025 22:32

The crazy thing is, if British Jews leave, where would they go? Because where is safe for them?
The government need to get serious about protecting ALL our citizens.

I’m not surprised given posting on here even. Smirks at fears. Dismissal of what people might do.

We don't agree on much ES, but I am ashamed of some of my fellow lefties today. It is so bloody disheartening. I feel quite sick about it.

I dont know but going by past experience, I consider them not improbable. The very act of marching today is itself a kind of victory parade but you are determined to be blind to hatred.

This sort of rhetoric is also vile.

I despair.

1dayatatime · 02/10/2025 22:36

@MyHeartyCoralSnail - the anti semitism is completely blatant and even worse "on trend" - you literally have thousands of people every weekend chanting "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" and "Globalise the Intifada" (globalise terrorist attacks).

And no one says or does anything about it.

hamstersarse · 02/10/2025 22:37

There was a strange pro Palestine/ anti Israel protest where I live today, strange because they just baracaded themselves into their place of work and refused to open up,

I’m coming to the conclusion these people do want death to Jews, they somehow have twisted their mind to believe they deserve it. And all the while they’ve sided with a death cult. I get the feeling that many people don’t believe in Jihad, think it’s some sort of misinformation or exaggeration, that people couldn’t really be like that

I’d be so embarrassed to have flown a Palestine flag after today’s events, on British soil.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 02/10/2025 22:38

nomas · 02/10/2025 22:32

We've been through this. Sadly, there's none so blind as those who refuse to see

PurpleThistle7 · 02/10/2025 22:38

I would love to know where the Jewish people are heading next as well. I can’t think of anywhere obvious. Which then takes us back round to exactly why Israel exists.

clipboardz · 02/10/2025 22:39

I'm listening to LBC & the presenter has jay said he's getting quite a lot of pushback for mentioning the word Syrian. As he said? he is just quoting official reports. How did we end up here? It's crazy.

It’s not ‘rhetoric’ it’s fact.
Are you under the impression that islamists put their pronouns in their bio?

Around 15% of Italians consider physical attacks on Jewish people "entirely or fairly justifiable"
