Civil unrest, what's really going on?

Sadworld23 · 03/08/2025 17:02

My DH keeps chirping up with, there's riots here, protests there, immigrants have done assaults in xxx etc. He sees me as a bit of a do-gooder..

All UK places, but when I look at my regular news, there's very little reporting of it.

My DH has some MH issues currently and to confront him with 'what the heck are you reading?' isn't worth it right now.
I make comments such as, ooh that sounds grim and doesn't sound good, and that's very worrying, but I'd really like to know if it's really happening and where he's getting this info.

Only racism and personal attacks will be deleted @Nchangeo , so if you can steer clear of those you should be ok. But if you feel you need a break do take one, whatever’s best for you.
We have ‘housing’ here. It’s going ok. Sorry if that’s not what you want to hear. There’s usually a huge kerfuffle on FB at first but thankfully no one goes as far as to suggest anyone sets anything on fire. So that’s good.

DuncinToffee · 06/08/2025 18:50

There is a hotel for asylum seekers in my town, there have been no reports about anything criminal.

The only time I didn't feel safe was last August when the concerned citizens were rioting near the hotel and in town.

Yy, @DuncinToffee. I felt very scared when the thugs were rioting in Southport. It wasn’t the Southport I knew and it was terrifying for friends and family who lived there. That out of towners gravitated in just to destroy and intimidate was sickening. Same when EDL grace my nearest city centre with their delightful presence. Sad

Im out too. Otherwise I can see myself getting deleted tonight.

But here’s my leaving thought for those goading those who have to deal with this. How about you write to the home office. You nominate your street for housing. Theres a solution. But you dont really believe in the nonsense your spouting. So you’re not going to do that are you.

Me too! It appears someone has reported my posts probably because they don’t like what I said

Racism and personal attacks will be deleted. It really is that simple.

Ours was nothing like Southport but plenty of arrests and a visit of the quite few far right groups.

There are still regular protests.

There was no racism! I never mentioned ethnicity or colour of skin or a particular nationality. So not sure why you think my post was racist or a personal attack! That poster was very goady and insisted on accusing me of scapegoating all refugees when I have clearly stated on this thread more than once that I’m happy with genuine refugees fleeing war torn countries. The last post i responded to, I actually said I wasn’t going to respond to them anymore!

If you mean me with 'that poster', I didn't report you.

I reported you @Mumofnarnia . You accused another poster of something horrendous and you made generalisations about ‘immigrants’ that I felt were racist. So, you can either whine about “not being allowed to say anything nowadays” or you can temper your posts to let the very important message theough about what can be done to make women and girls safer. Because that ‘is* important and I stand by the right of anyone to state their own experiences and come up with ideas about how we address it. That can be done without generalisations, racism and personal attacks.

What are you talking about? That post was not written by me! Please go back to that post again and quote it showing MY username on it! Think you got me mixed up with someone else sorry! But nice try!

DuncinToffee · 06/08/2025 19:07

The only way you you find out if someone is genuine or not is by going through the process.

People need to live somewhere whilst that is going on. Hotels are not the solution, I think we all agree on that.

Camps are even worse.

Oh really! 🥱

And racist? Please tell me where I mentioned a specific ethnicity, specific skin colour or nationality? I bet you can’t! My own kids are mixed race fgs so please stop playing the racism card!

Saucery · 06/08/2025 19:15

I’m not interested in batting the Waaahhhhh! ball back and forth with you @Mumofnarnia . I saw racism and personal attack so I reported it. Evidently MNHQ agreed according to their Talk Guidelines, so your comments were deleted. I only told you I reported you because you seemed to be going for another poster who you felt was responsible. Well they weren’t. It was me. Deal with it 🥱 back atcha.

And I’m not interested in YOUR definition of what you like to think is racism!

I’m not interested in what you like to think about me as you don’t know me. So deal with it back at ya too! Racism indeed! 🤣

JamesMacGill · 06/08/2025 19:18

For such a small group I’m amazed that there are weekly and sometimes daily reports of asylum seeker arrests for violence or sexual aggression against women. In the last week alone there has been the rape and strangulation of the kidnapped 12 year old, and attempted abduction of another 10 year old. 2 weeks ago saw the trial of another asylum seeker for sexually assaulting a teenage girl, and last month the conviction of another asylum seeker for raping a 13 year old after dragging her down an alley. 2 weeks ago another asylum seeker was charged with rape and 6 other sexual offences in Bishops Stortford (not widely publicised but is in their local newspaper), and in March another asylum seeker was found guilty of raping a girl in Falkirk. That’s the last few months alone; and not all of them in that time by any stretch.

These are the articles I’ve found from a cursory, 5 minute online search. I actually can’t keep going as I don’t have time but there are many more.

Given there are 110,000 asylum seekers in the UK - roughly the same number as a town the size of Bedford - and 80% of those are men so really we are talking about around 90,000 people - can you say hand on heart you don’t find this alarmingly high?

Saucery · 06/08/2025 18:04

You think we didn’t have to alter our behaviour in the 70s, 80s, 90s? If anyone says they did, they are either labouring under a delusion, lying or had a blissfully sheltered upbringing.

Edited

I think that's got to be the worst excuse I've ever heard.
I have no idea why you've gone through the decades as it's completely irrelevant to my post. If you are trying to suggest that what is happening to some women and girls is simply par for the course, and must be endured for the greater good, I disagree.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but you don't have the right to decide what other people think and feel about the current situation. Particularly towards those who are sharing their real life experiences, which you know nothing about.

Saucery · 06/08/2025 19:25

0.1%. Any percentage is too high for VAWG but it would be interesting to see a comparison for British male shitbags.
So, what can we do about VAWG overall? That’s the question we should be asking.

Saucery · 06/08/2025 19:29

If you are trying to suggest that what is happening to some women and girls is simply par for the course, and must be endured for the greater good, I disagree.
That’s a weird take on what I said Grin
I’ll try my best to make it more simple for you.

A subset of men has always preyed on women.
This isn’t something new.
No, we shouldn’t have to put up with it ‘for the greater good’. How utterly bizarre you interpreted it like that Hmm
We need, as a society, to get much, much tougher against men who perpetrate VAWG. All of them. No matter where they come from, who they are or who they know.

DuncinToffee · 06/08/2025 19:31

What is your solution @JamesMacGill

Stop male refugees coming here? How?
