Civil unrest, what's really going on?

My DH keeps chirping up with, there's riots here, protests there, immigrants have done assaults in xxx etc. He sees me as a bit of a do-gooder..

All UK places, but when I look at my regular news, there's very little reporting of it.

My DH has some MH issues currently and to confront him with 'what the heck are you reading?' isn't worth it right now.
I make comments such as, ooh that sounds grim and doesn't sound good, and that's very worrying, but I'd really like to know if it's really happening and where he's getting this info.

Interesting article here, talks about kinship, and how certain attitudes have been imported to parts of the UK where the grooming gangs were most active. It’s a bit of a read.

That’s pretty bad run for 16 weeks.

Saying that we have a man of unknown origin lurking around today and the Facebook is going wild. He’s tried to grab / proposition various women this afternoon and this evening. Police are trying to track him down. I have no idea what their status is. But the point of mentioning this is that in small towns everyone knows everything.

If you think a sea breeze and a few walks stops a sexual predator and a man capable of stabbing to magically reform. Then I don’t know what to say to you tbh.

Update. Yes it was a migrant charged.

I am not even angry at this stage because I already suspected such and so have had time to process.

Really this is just sad. Its completely and utterly unacceptable. This man was walking past my house multiples times, in the park where my children play in the afternoon (thankfully it was pouring so we weren’t out). Multiple women were approached, harassed and intimidated. This did represent a real risk to me and my family.

The Gov needs to rethink this housing situation entirely.

I am talking about those entering illegally and/or claiming asylum as I presume those entering legally to work via visa are screened (hopefully).

When are they unchecked:

While they are waiting for their applications to be processed and when they destroy their documents and don’t give their identity.

When they enter illegally and manage to disappear before the need to claim asylum.

The above is usually when they are in hotels but often now they are put in HMO’s.

And , where are you thinking of detaining them?

Personally I would use camps or detention centres, barracks or similar and ideally process them quicker, with immediate deportation for those not meeting the requirements or from safe countries. And deportation for any criminal or anyone who subsequently commits a crime.

So it's the ones disappearing that are unchecked and unvetted.

I agree that we need a efficient asylum processing system but the government is dealing with a backlog, it won't be solved quickly.

Where would you build the detention camps?

Fixed that for you Smile

Sounds like the police did their job.

And yet so many posters are desperate to say there’s no issue. I’m sorry you were made to feel so unsafe in your own home. It’s an absolute disgrace.

Saucery · 06/08/2025 17:43

There is definitely an issue with some men, which the police should address.

After a post I saw last night, in response to a comment you made on another thread where someone openly stated they are happy to sacrifice the safety of women and children I am horrified at the amount of people who not only see no issue but are happy to encourage it at the expense of the safety of women and children!

Saucery · 06/08/2025 17:48

Women and girls were never safe here. Ever. Shall we all pay more for decent policing? (And oversight of that policing, because, let’s face it, the police have a lot of work to do on their own vetting). I’d say yes, but others may disagree, if they see Stop The Boats as an easy pie in the sky fix.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm also sorry that other posters felt that they had the right to fix your story.

Hopefully he'll be taken off the streets, but the damage is now done. The more this keeps happening, the more women and girls will have to alter their behaviour to stay safe. It's wrong.

DuncinToffee · 06/08/2025 17:51

Nobody is saying that there are no issues with some asylum seekers, just that it is not a reason to blame all asylum seekers.

You think we didn’t have to alter our behaviour in the 70s, 80s, 90s? If anyone says they did, they are either labouring under a delusion, lying or had a blissfully sheltered upbringing.

Where does the pp reference these decades?

Ermmm, they didn’t?
My point was that predatory, creepy behaviour by men is not a new issue. It’s not a ‘migrant’ issue. It’s a Male issue and it has been going on waaaaayyyyy longer than Small Boats. It hasn’t been taken seriously, certainly, but it’s always been there,
That we are more than capable of growing our own shitty examples of the male sex surely isn’t news to you?

Saucery · 06/08/2025 18:12

I won’t be responding to you further btw @EasternStandard . My personal impression of you is that you don’t post in good faith. I may well be wrong, but this is just a talk board so I’m not obliged to waste time on conversations I don’t see any point in.

And nobody is saying ALL refugees are to blame. I have openly stated on this very thread that I don’t mind genuine refugees and I’m happy to accept genuine refugees from war torn countries. But there are those who come here with very ill intentions, no documentation to prove who they are, whether or not they have a criminal background and who are not from war torn countries, yet they are allowed to just roam the streets freely until their applications have been processed. There needs to be a better system in place. And I blame the government and the one before them. But what I do not agree with is someone openly stating they are happy to sacrifice the safety of women and children for those people!

How do you know who is genuine and who is not?
Would you just put them all in a detention camp just in case?

And it is not fair to quote someone from a different thread without providing further content of that comment.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you posting in that thread anyways so I’m sure you have seen the post!

And that’s the issue we don’t know do we! But that’s ok let’s just allow anyone and everyone here. Hence why we need a better system!

What do you suggest as a better system?

ETA, I only read that comment after you mentioned it because I like to check the context.

I am not on that thread if you had bothered to check

I suggest we stop scapegoating asylum seekers and stop calling them criminals.

I would also suggest safe and legal routes

Im out too. Otherwise I can see myself getting deleted tonight.

But here’s my leaving thought for those goading those who have to deal with this. How about you write to the home office. You nominate your street for housing. Theres a solution. But you dont really believe in the nonsense your spouting. So you’re not going to do that are you.
