Yvette Cooper’s husband was given Taylor Swift tickets worth hundreds of pounds and he invited his wife. Following this Ms Swift was given security she worth millions she might not have necessarily expected to receive. The Labour sleaze just does not let up!

Presumably this has been known about for a while so I guess the question is why is guido Fawkes releasing this today?

Fairslice · 10/10/2024 14:23

Sorry - are you saying we should smile benevolently at Labours free tickets? Just because the Tories were worse?

As I said above I totally support the security given to TS.

It doesn't matter. That's the point.

The tories invited the Russians into the House of Lords but suddenly it's an issue for politicians to go to concerts?

Fairslice · 10/10/2024 14:27

No, hold on. You are saying that it doesn't matter that they got given free tickets (and used them- didn't give them away to someone more needy)?

Of course it matters. If nothing else it just pisses people off. They are on upwards of 90k a year. And the fact that the tories were worse doesn't matter now, unless you think that we should just accept scraps now because the people before ate it all?

No, she just said it this week. The ticket value is below the limit for actually being declared officially which is why she didn't (below £300 doesn't have to be declared).

(Obviously you can debate the rights and wrongs of having a limit like that at all, but that's what the rule is)

@1990s was correct in asking whether you really understand the issue.

Credible terrorist threat.
3 little girls murdered at TS themed party
Manchester Arena.

Looks like you picked the wrong theme to bash Labour.

Quit glue whilst you're at it.

@itwasnevermine , I’m talking about the inappropriate behaviour of Cooper and Khan that they overstepped their remit massively is without question. The decisions the police otherwise took regarding security at the concert is a completely separate matter.
The pressure was applied to get Swift police outriders, traffic stopped for her etc as if she were the monarch. This has nothing to do with security in the arena.

"Yvette Cooper wasn’t given any tickets. Her husband was. How difficult is it for you to understand that? "
So why would TS give Ed Balls free tickets? Cos they're such good friends? I mean, it's possible, but I'd be very surprised.
More likely, she was giving them to YC but via her husband, to circumvent potential criticism.

I absolutely agree that TS concert should have had extremely high levels of security, to protect everyone there. But no politician should be accepting gifts of this value either directly or indirectly via their spouse. I don't believe YC was bribed - she did what was right, regarding the security, but these 'gifts' muddy the waters and allow for politicians to be bribed in certain circumstances.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 10/10/2024 13:05

@1990s , you are missing the point entirely it was not the place of Ms Cooper or Mr Khan to apply pressure on the police who are for very good reason meant to be independent of politics. They did, they should not have done and they were rewarded for doing so. Are you really unable to not understand?

Are you really unable to not understand

Hmmm... your user name is a bit ironic 🤣

ThreeFeetTall · 10/10/2024 14:33

@DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace ah, thanks.

Taylor didn't give free tickets.

ABirdsEyeView · 10/10/2024 14:36

The comparison to Jurgen Klopp is ridiculous - last time I looked he wasn't running the country.
Labour are rightly getting a kicking because they campaigned on a promise of being anti sleaze and pro ordinary people. Yet here they are, blagging freebies and cutting off winter fuel payments to old people - it's looking like the tories with a different name.
People are angry because they are disappointed.

Oh come of now, the Tories didn't 'invite' the Russians into the HoL for nothing, it was only after they received massive donations from them.

ABirdsEyeView · 10/10/2024 14:37

'Taylor didn't give free tickets.'

Who gave them to EB then?

This. I can't believe that is difficult for people to understand.

Her team. Taylor is not directly involved in any of this.

He's in a position of power over football, or is it just when it's Labour it's an issue?

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 14:50

@Fairslice then stop saying it was her? I'm sorry but all of you who are so offended by this but didn't care when the tories stole billions of public money are hilarious

VimtoVimto · 10/10/2024 14:51

I thought the police were accountable to the Home Secretary. The Home Secretary and the Mayor of London ensuring there is sufficient security at an event is not sleaze.

This is all a pathetic witch hunt.

They are. They all work together on big events in London.

Flughafenkoenigin · 10/10/2024 14:56

I disagree. Yvette Cooper is Home Secretary and in charge of the police. She has a specific role regarding certain functions of the Met police that go beyond policing London, such as counter-terrorism policing. It is entirely her place to oversee security matters.

As Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan is police and crime commissioner for London and also has a role in overseeing the Met police.

If they influenced the Met regarding policing of the Taylor Swift concert, they would have been doing their jobs.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 10/10/2024 14:58

1990s · 10/10/2024 12:55

Are you hard of understanding? There was a direct credible terror threat against her. They raised the security for the safety of Taylor and fans attending.

How is this hard to grasp?

Ok, they could have given her the security without didn’t have to accept tickets.

Because it looks sleazy now.,

ABirdsEyeView · 10/10/2024 15:04

rainfallpurevividcat · 10/10/2024 13:13

So what.

@rainfallpurevividcat , the police are meant to be free of political influence. Khan and Cooper would know it was wrong to put pressure on them. It really is very grubby.
