Yvette Cooper’s husband was given Taylor Swift tickets worth hundreds of pounds and he invited his wife. Following this Ms Swift was given security she worth millions she might not have necessarily expected to receive. The Labour sleaze just does not let up!

Are we going to ignore the fact that she is escorted by police in every city?

Boobygravy · 10/10/2024 13:23

No problem M/s Swift having security.
The tickets should have been raffled for charity.

Ridiculous

Most public sector roles and organisations are politically neutral, but still take direction from the government at both national and local level, particularly in response to changing current affairs...

Ridiculous

Why?

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:25

@Boobygravy because people will always attend events. They are allowed to receive gifts.

Kendodd · 10/10/2024 13:25

I would ask MN to take this thread down if I were you OP.
You've completely embarrassed yourself with it.

MrSeptember · 10/10/2024 13:25

Rubbish, anyone who has any sort of power can apply pressure for things like this. Hell, us mere mortals sitting at our keyboards can apply pressure by, for example, creating and signing petitions, launching social media campaigns etc.

As for politicians being given tickets in exchange for them to pressure for Taylor Swift security... hahahaha. Taylor Swift is a very clever person, if she's going to try and influence politicians for her security, she'd be much more adept than this.

To that end, I think the more politicians who lobbied for more security over the Taylor Swift concerts, the better. As a parent of a Swiftie, hearing about the Vienna thing was really scary. We had wanted to do the TayGating thing but in the end we didn't because we'd been told that there was a lot of people being moved on because of the very real and credible threats against Taylor Swift, and by extension, all of her fans. If I'd actually managed to get us tickets, I'd have been very happy with any and all additional security I could see.

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks but you're wrong.

@itwasnevermine ,you’d like me to be I know. Very inconvenient to be pointing out the grubbiness. Wasn’t Labour promising a different kind of politics? That didn’t take long to get forgotten did it?

twentysevendresses · 10/10/2024 13:26

Why are you assuming that the police didn't 'act independently' given the ACTUAL terror threats towards Swift only days earlier? You appear to lack the prowess of your user name and are gleaning your 'information' from tabloids.

If you do have any credible information to back up your claims, please provide the links.

I'm not even a Labour voter, but these ridiculous tabloid stories to discredit them are beyond boring now!

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:26

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks the London mayor is always involved in event planning.

MrSeptember · 10/10/2024 13:26

Also, the hypocrisy of the media on this is hilarious. I used to work in PR. I've lost count of the number of fancy, expensive events I have taken journalists to, all free of chrage. It's a perfectly normal way of doing business and I bet that pretty much every journalist who got a ticket to TS did so through a PR contact!

NancyBellaDonna · 10/10/2024 13:26

MissAmbrosia · 10/10/2024 13:15

I am so sick of this shit - after 14 years of the Tories spaffing tax payers money up the wall - the desperation to find the tiniest things to throw at Labour is just insane....

Couldn't agree more MissAmbrosia.
FFS give it a rest OP. All these pathetic anti-Labour jibes are beyond tedious.

My dh was a civil servant for 25years.
He wasn't allowed to accept anything.
Why should mp's get freebies, they're more likely to be in a position of influence.

Prince William was there, are they all angry about that? I doubt it

@not a chance. Mumsnet is largely inhabited by the Left who were so very critical, not unreasonably at times, of birthday cakes et al. Your party promised to be different. What a joke. 😂

@Boobygravy

So do you object to Prince William receiving the free tickets?

Jurgen Klopp was gifted free tickets to the anfield show, he's now been appointed in a role at Red Bull. Should we be angry about that as he might be influenced to favour Liverpool?

It's ridiculous. Nobody cared when the tories fleeced this nation to the bare bones but now some MPs go to a concert it's an issue?

Fairslice · 10/10/2024 13:29

I don't have a problem at all with Taylor swift getting extra security, I think it was 100% warranted.

I hate the free tickets though. Would have been better to have given them away to someone from the constituency in need, or to raffle them for charity.

People are so desperate to use anything against Labour government.

If only this level of scrutiny was applied to the Tories and the Brexit con over the 14 years. 100 days and it's relentless attacks, some warranted but it's just non-stop.

FrothyCothy · 10/10/2024 13:30

Have the Tory bot farms been unleashed on mumsnet or something?!

Tbf most mp's start off with a vision of service and then they spot the gravy train.

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:30

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks it is not influencing the police. This is a multi agency job. Do you think it's just the met involved with football matches? Or with other concerts?

I had a huge problem with the tories doing this.

My worry is that Labour seem to think it's fine when they do it, for some reason.

I can't believe they didn't realise that we'd all had enough of seeing politicians with their nose in the trough.

Do you think that Tory politicians and MPs didn't go to Taylor Swift concerts and get freebies? Do you think that Tory politicians and MPs didn't also express concerns about safety? I'd bet that the women in particular had real concerns because it's not exactly a secret that a lot of these extremists do love, in particular, to target female celebs and fans (eg Manchester). Let's also not forget that half of the Eras tour dates in the UK were BEFORe the election!

You're dreadfully naive at best, purposefully vitriolic at worst.
