Yvette Cooper’s husband was given Taylor Swift tickets worth hundreds of pounds and he invited his wife. Following this Ms Swift was given security she worth millions she might not have necessarily expected to receive. The Labour sleaze just does not let up!

Are you hard of understanding? There was a direct credible terror threat against her. They raised the security for the safety of Taylor and fans attending.

How is this hard to grasp?

Exactly! And the TS concerts: thus able to go ahead - did great things for the economy. My only concern re the 'Labour sleaze' (0.000001% of Tory sleaze?)
is that they have been a bit naieve about it. Much better to have paid for those minor things like tickets & specs than have these silly headlines. Someone on HIGNIFY said last week that it was because the items themselves were boring - tickets & specs - rather than gold wallpaper & duck houses on duck ponds.
Perhaps that's why KS & Co are getting such grief?

@Boobygravy

So do you object to Prince William receiving the free tickets?

Jurgen Klopp was gifted free tickets to the anfield show, he's now been appointed in a role at Red Bull. Should we be angry about that as he might be influenced to favour Liverpool?

It's ridiculous. Nobody cared when the tories fleeced this nation to the bare bones but now some MPs go to a concert it's an issue?

Yep this. What about the royals?

@itwasnevermine , lord please read what the objection is. Those tickets were received on the back of pressure being applied to the Met which they had no right and should not have done.

OnlyWhenILaugh · 10/10/2024 13:32

Khan both applied pressure on the Met to grant Ms Swift the level of security normally reserved for the King on State business. The sort of security which has been previously denied to Prince Harry. The police are supposed to be independent

If you're going to try and make a political point, it's important to demonstrate you understand what what you are talking about @Icanthinkformyselfthanks .

You have completely misunderstood the legal issues

Prince Harry has never been denied protection. He has been denied IPP status which King Charles (and other Heads of State etc.) have. 🙄

@not a chance. Mumsnet is largely inhabited by the Left who were so very critical, not unreasonably at times, of birthday cakes et al. Your party promised to be different. What a joke. 😂

And why are you calling it 'my party'? Do you not realise the stupidity of what you've posted? And for information, I haven't voted Labour since the Iraq war.

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:32

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks I actually cannot believe you are objecting to women and girls being given extra security in the fact of a terror threat.

Please give your head a wobble.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 10/10/2024 13:34

How absolutely bizarre. You're arguing that the Home Secretary shouldn't be having discussions with the police over high risk, high profile, public events. Are you really unaware of the responsibilities of the Home Secretary? She is quite literally responsible for policing, law and order and national security.

TwigTheWonderKid · 10/10/2024 13:34

MissAmbrosia · 10/10/2024 13:15

I am so sick of this shit - after 14 years of the Tories spaffing tax payers money up the wall - the desperation to find the tiniest things to throw at Labour is just insane....

This. It's utterly pathetic.

Don't present her with logic!! She thinks the police operate in a vacuum

What do you think of Robert Jenrick’s most recent £75k of dodgy donations?

Guavafish1 · 10/10/2024 13:37

I don’t think it’s sleezy at all! And if it is … small compared to the tories

Sleezy is spending £50 million on a bridge that doesn’t exist (BJ)

Sleezy is billions on Covid app - that doesn’t function (BJ)

Sleezy is billions on unused PPE (BJ)

Murder is the way the Tory government behaved during the COVID pandemic

Kendodd · 10/10/2024 13:37

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 10/10/2024 13:30

@itwasnevermine , he’s supposed to keep his big nose out out of any attempt to influence the police.

Oh dear! Grin
You really do keep embarrassing yourself.

HotCrossBunplease · 10/10/2024 13:38

Where’s your evidence that Yvette Coppwr “applied pressure” on the Met and that they otherwise would not have reached the same decision?

Do you realise that Taylor Swift is a much much bigger global personality than Prince Harry, and the event on a totally different scale to anything he does, and involved huge numbers of women congregating?

ethelredonagoodday · 10/10/2024 13:38

@MrTiddlesTheCat I couldn't agree more.

I think the government could do worse than introduce a module at secondary school on how government and the wider public sector actually functions and the roles of each part of the structure.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 10/10/2024 13:39

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:16

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks are you ignoring the fact that there was an active terror threat in Vienna?

@itwasnevermine , nope. Are you ignoring the fact that Cooper and Khan went beyond their remit?

@HotCrossBunplease , widely reported and not denied. Find me the evidence I’m wrong.

As Home Secretary and mayor of London, they went beyond their remit by ensuring that the concerts were safe?

🙄

I tell you the worse of it.
Putting the son of one of Putin's inner circle into the House of Lords against security services advice after receiving big donations from him.
Then getting pissed with said Lord while on holiday at their Italian villa and ditching your security while foreign secretary.
Both also Boris Johnson btw

OnlyWhenILaugh · 10/10/2024 13:44

Are you ignoring the fact that Cooper and Khan went beyond their remit?
Are you genuinely suggesting they acted as they did in order to get Taylor Swift tickets? @Icanthinkformyselfthanks

If I go through your previous posts will I find a long history of you challenging MPs accepting gifts?

AlohaRose · 10/10/2024 13:45

OP, no-one cares. After 14 years of Tory sleaze on an absolutely monumental scale, no-one cares any more. Rightly or wrongly, people have become so immune to political wrongdoings on a level of millions of pounds that, if anything, the public are mostly scathing of attempts to make a news story out of "sleaze" in an amount of hundreds or even thousands of pounds. Labour are going to have to go some distance before attempts to paint them in the same light as the Tories come to fruition. Or maybe it will never happen - we are so numb to what politicians get up to that they may need to be guilty of misappropriating hundreds of millions before it surprises us.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 10/10/2024 13:40

@HotCrossBunplease , widely reported and not denied. Find me the evidence I’m wrong.

Lisa Nandy denied it yesterday.

The Torygraphy said that Sadiq Khan got given his tickets before any security measures were put in place.

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:46

Also @Icanthinkformyselfthanks, England are playing football tonight at Wembley.

Do you think the mayor hasn't been involved in the planning of this?

Yup
Exactly this
It's incredible that people who did actually declare things are being tarred with the same bloody brush as the last government who mostly 'forgot' to declare things like entire companies, houses, flats, other jobs, private flights etc etc etc
