Yvette Cooper’s husband was given Taylor Swift tickets worth hundreds of pounds and he invited his wife. Following this Ms Swift was given security she worth millions she might not have necessarily expected to receive. The Labour sleaze just does not let up!

She was given extra security because it was days after her Vienna show had to be cancelled due to a suicide bombing plot. 🙄

I can’t believe that post Manchester Arena people are questioning extra security in the face of a credible terror risk at such a high-profile event. What is wrong with people? How desperate can you be to score a political point?

@Takoneko , Ms Cooper and Mr Khan both applied pressure on the Met to grant Ms Swift the level of security normally reserved for the King on State business. The sort of security which has been previously denied to Prince Harry. The police are supposed to be independent, it is grubby in the extreme for these politicians to have interfered in this way, this alone should be investigated. They were rewarded for their efforts by Ms Swift of course with tickets to her concert but what is particularly revolting is that Ms Cooper’s tickets were given to Mr Balls in order to circumnavigate directly giving them to Ms Cooper. Is there no end to the depths of this Labour government’s sleaze swamp?

Are you hard of understanding? There was a direct credible terror threat against her. They raised the security for the safety of Taylor and fans attending.

How is this hard to grasp?

TheFairyCaravan · 10/10/2024 13:01

It’s such a non-story.

Ed Balls was given tickets so took his wife. How many other journalists who are slinging mud at the Labour Party are sitting there on a nest of freebies? Most of them I’d wager.

Taylor Swift had just had 3 concerts in Vienna cancelled due to a terror threat. Did you want that here? Her concerts brought over a billion to the economy, £330m of which was to the London economy. She had a police escort in Edinburgh and Cardiff, but that was fine when the Tories were in charge.

People need to get a grip.

@1990s , you are missing the point entirely it was not the place of Ms Cooper or Mr Khan to apply pressure on the police who are for very good reason meant to be independent of politics. They did, they should not have done and they were rewarded for doing so. Are you really unable to not understand?

@TheFairyCaravan , I suspect I’m going to have to repeat this rather a lot for the legions who appear not to comprehend the issue.

I’m stunned at your rudeness. You are missing rhe point entirely.

firstly politicians should not be accepting freebies like this, it is utterly appalling and grubby.

secondly the met asses risk and decide on security it is not the role of government ministers.

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks the pressure placed on the met for extra security because it came so soon after a legitimate terror threat.

@urbanbuddha , yes extreme distasteful. They knew it was wrong but tried to cover it up by giving the tickets to him. 🤢

If you are truly suggesting that a major event like a Taylor Swift concert would go ahead without the Mayor of London and the Home Secretary having some involvement in the planning, then you are either naive, misinformed or trying to make a clumsy party political slur. Especially as there had been a credible threat against Swift just a short time earlier.
Do you work for the Daily Mail?

I am so sick of this shit - after 14 years of the Tories spaffing tax payers money up the wall - the desperation to find the tiniest things to throw at Labour is just insane....

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:16

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks are you ignoring the fact that there was an active terror threat in Vienna?

Yvette Cooper wasn’t given any tickets. Her husband was. How difficult is it for you to understand that?

There has been no confirmation from the Govt that they put pressure on the Met, that’s only come from the gutter press. And if they did, frankly I don’t care. I wouldn’t have cared if any Govt had done it.

It really is a yawn fest. I highly doubt some of the posters on this thread complaining were doing the same before, with the last, corrupt to the skies Government.

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:17

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks do you not think that the mayor of London would've been involved in planning a major event like this?

Take issue with the tickets fine. Can't believe you're having a go at enhanced security post Manchester Arena and Vienna concerts being cancelled. Even if it took political power it achieve it.
Shame on you.

@Worthalltheyears , no I do not work for The Daily Mail.
This is genuinely an important issue because the police are meant to act without favour and the decisions on security are there’s alone it is quite wrong for Ms Cooper and Mr Khan to have applied pressure.
Let’s be clear we are talking about the level of security normally reserved for the King on State business that was refused to Prince Harry.
The excuses the left are prepared to make to cover up for their scummy politicians are laughable.

@Kendodd , this is getting boring. Your politicians had their sticky grabby fingers in trying to influence the police who are meant, for very good reason to be independent. Dear me.
