Yvette Cooper’s husband was given Taylor Swift tickets worth hundreds of pounds and he invited his wife. Following this Ms Swift was given security she worth millions she might not have necessarily expected to receive. The Labour sleaze just does not let up!

We don't actually know if they put any such pressure on the police, as others have said.

We also shouldn't overstate "police independence". The police do not in fact go around doing whatever they like and their operations are to some extent informed by government policy. Both the Home Secretary and the Mayor of London have explicit responsibilities in relation to law enforcement.

Compared to the Tories funnelling wealth into the pockets of their mates, ensuring security for a major event is hardly a terrible evil anyway, is it?

TheFairyCaravan · 10/10/2024 13:52

You’re a Reform voter @Icanthinkformyselfthanks so what do you think of Farage saying his £32k gift of airline tickets to the US “isn’t really a gift”? Apparently it was to represent Clacton on the world stage 🙄 From what I’ve read his constituents would just like him to turn up occasionally.

Farage's £32k all-expense paid trip to America was to 'represent Clacton on the world stage'

He said he made the trip to "support a friend who was almost killed and to represent Clacton on the world stage.”

She was given extra security because it was days after her Vienna show had to be cancelled due to a suicide bombing plot. 🙄

I can’t believe that post Manchester Arena people are questioning extra security in the face of a credible terror risk at such a high-profile event. What is wrong with people? How desperate can you be to score a political point?

Why was 'she' given the extra security? Pretty certain it should've been the crowds.

Kendodd · 10/10/2024 13:53

PineappleCoconut · 10/10/2024 13:47

Yup
Exactly this
It's incredible that people who did actually declare things are being tarred with the same bloody brush as the last government who mostly 'forgot' to declare things like entire companies, houses, flats, other jobs, private flights etc etc etc

Yes!
Did we ever find out who paid for BJ Caribbean holiday? I remember he refused to say.

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:53

@since1986 the crowds were also given extra security.

It was unclear at that time whether the threat also extended to her, and so she was also given extra security. However, things like the police escort have been common for her when leaving other cities too.

twentysevendresses · 10/10/2024 13:26

Why are you assuming that the police didn't 'act independently' given the ACTUAL terror threats towards Swift only days earlier? You appear to lack the prowess of your user name and are gleaning your 'information' from tabloids.

If you do have any credible information to back up your claims, please provide the links.

I'm not even a Labour voter, but these ridiculous tabloid stories to discredit them are beyond boring now!

Yes! ^

yorktown · 10/10/2024 13:59

I'm also interested, OP, on what you think of Farage's trip to the US.
Are you calling out MP sleaze generally or just Labour?

dottiehens · 10/10/2024 13:59

Sleaze rage. Funny how the lefties come now to defend their party.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 10/10/2024 14:00

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 13:32

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks I actually cannot believe you are objecting to women and girls being given extra security in the fact of a terror threat.

Please give your head a wobble.

@itwasnevermine , the security was not for women and girls. 🙄

Yes. It was. Everyone at the concert was given enhanced security.

longhauler · 10/10/2024 14:01
  • I tell you the worse of it. Putting the son of one of Putin's inner circle into the House of Lords against security services advice after receiving big donations from him. Then getting pissed with said Lord while on holiday at their Italian villa and ditching your security while foreign secretary. Both also Boris Johnson btw*

Yes and proroguing Parliament anybody?

Oh but let's get all frothy about the Home Sec doing her job.

dottiehens · 10/10/2024 14:02

@itwasnevermine , the security was not for women and girls. 🙄

She probably knows but may be just wants to see if others get confused.

Theonewhogotaway · 10/10/2024 14:03

I simply struggle to understand how anyone can support any political party to such a level they will not just accept sleaze but try to defend it. The grubby on the take of Labour senior politicians since they came to power is inexcusable

JanglingJack · 10/10/2024 14:04

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 10/10/2024 13:05

@1990s , you are missing the point entirely it was not the place of Ms Cooper or Mr Khan to apply pressure on the police who are for very good reason meant to be independent of politics. They did, they should not have done and they were rewarded for doing so. Are you really unable to not understand?

@1990s was correct in asking whether you really understand the issue.

Credible terrorist threat.
3 little girls murdered at TS themed party
Manchester Arena.

Looks like you picked the wrong theme to bash Labour.

Quit glue whilst you're at it.

Oh yes but but the wallpaper and money to mates and Caribbean holidays. The bloody point is that they sold themselves as not the same.

ClairDeLaLune · 10/10/2024 14:07

@Icanthinkformyselfthanks that must be the most ironic username ever! Did you read this shit in the Daily Mail? Of course the Home Secretary and London Mayor would be involved in security planning for an event like this especially after the terror threat in Vienna.

dottiehens · 10/10/2024 14:09

Pretty sure Boris would get invited even if he is not the prime minister or a politician. It is just his circle of mates. All rich and powerful.

leafybrew · 10/10/2024 14:09

They did, they should not have done and they were rewarded for doing so. Are you really unable to not understand?

I am not able to understand OP.

If I did understand, I highly suspect I would not give a shit anyway.

Plus - I don't have any pearls to clutch at.

SoupDragon · 10/10/2024 14:10

This is really scraping the barrel in terms of finding something to froth about 😂

MugPlate · 10/10/2024 14:16

OP you can’t say anything negative about TS on MN. It’s one of the basic rules of the site.
Now, if OASIS had bribed some politicians… 😂

Trixiefirecracker · 10/10/2024 14:17

This is hilarious.…compared to the enormous list of sleaze, corruption and wrong doings the Tories have under their belt it’s totally insignificant. Please find something else to froth about.

DoIWantTo · 10/10/2024 14:18

Nobody really gives a shit. We’d rather politicians applied pressure to the police to increase security for massive events in order to avoid another incident like the Manchester bombing, if you can’t understand that then it is you that is hard of understanding OP.
