This Morning - No mention of Little Arthur

The horrendous case of Arthur is at the forefront of all our minds this week, and all other live TV shows seem to be discussing the case, however Phil and Holly have not so much as uttered a word about him this week. They are so smiley and happy and I just find it really disrespectful and surprising that they haven't even acknowledged him. AIBU??

From the little bits I’ve seen, This Morning has always struck me as a fluffy show with no actual real news - which isn’t a criticism, I just never saw it as aiming to be a news show. So I don’t find this that surprising.

LittleGwyneth · 07/12/2021 11:55

I'm not sure why they would have done to be honest. What useful information could they add to the conversation? There's no discussion or debate to be had, other than around the reduction in funding for the social services, which is a hard news item and therefore not This Morning's territory.

MorningStarling · 07/12/2021 11:57

Why would they? It's not a news programme, it's light entertainment.

PooWillyNameChange · 07/12/2021 11:58

There is always a tragedy in the UK any given day or week. Not all TV can focus on it all the time and I'm not sure a chat show like this morning is best placed to tackle it anyway. The snippets I've seen are usually just drivel. YABU.

smileanddance · 07/12/2021 11:59

Good points, fair enough! I just find it strange that the whole nation is in tatters over this awful story and they aren't offering any support over it. They do a lot of phone-ins where they do cover serious topics too. Loose women discussed it and they are also a light entertainment show.

It is completely inappropriate for them to mention it. It’s an entertainment show.

Mrsjayy · 07/12/2021 11:59

What would you have liked them to do ? Maybe Derdrie could have had a phone in , that poor child went through too much for his life and death to be discussed on This Morning 5 minute story of the day segment.

IncompleteSenten · 07/12/2021 12:00

Yabu.
It's morning entertainment not news or anything serious.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/12/2021 12:01

Hmm maybe it has been discussed enough on other live shows.

authenticforgery · 07/12/2021 12:01

Ffs

ManicPixie · 07/12/2021 12:01

ITV daytime shows are designed for fluffy brain-rot. I wouldn't worry about it.

ANameChangeAgain · 07/12/2021 12:02

It was all over the earlier This Morning show. Dr Hilary and a Social Services rep were trying to carefully explain to a very upset Susana that the police cannot march in and take away every child where a complaint has been made.

Mrsjayy · 07/12/2021 12:03

Loose women try and pretend they are a current affairs programme that is probably why they discussed it.

Aimee1987 · 07/12/2021 12:03

It's not disappeared theres an article on the BBC news site about it ( talking about safeguarding concerns)
Those morning TV shows arent the news so wouldn't expect it

BoobsOnTheMoon · 07/12/2021 12:03

"support" ??

Support for who? I'm sure those involved are being offered appropriate support.

I'm so fucking sick of the competitive grief coming from people who have no connection to the story.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 07/12/2021 12:03

If you're looking for intelligent discourse or even common sense, you won't find it on daytime television.

SexyNeckbeard · 07/12/2021 12:03

If you're looking to This Morning for emotional support then you're looking in the wrong place.
SSOYS · 07/12/2021 12:04

This is a bit like complaining they didn't cover it on Strictly.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 07/12/2021 12:04

Because there's a line.

There's a line where righteous concern and support crosses over into prurient speculation, and gawping at misery for its own sake.

PleasantBirthday · 07/12/2021 12:05

The child wasn't called Little Arthur. Why would you want that discussion on a programme on at a time when many young children would be at home?

is the whole nation in tatters over it? I think it's a truly awful story but I'm certainly not in tatters. I feel sad for him, and sad that the lack of support enabled it to reach that point, but I haven't spent lots of time reading the court reports and details of the case to make myself feel as upset as possible.
Mrsjayy · 07/12/2021 12:06

I agree there is a line.

SexyNeckbeard · 07/12/2021 12:07

Also I'm assuming you're not a family member or friend, just an onlooker who says "isn't it terrible" to everyone they meet. Consider then that this is not your grief and its a bit distasteful of you to be acting as though it is - of course if you really are deeply affected by it then seek a qualified therapist to discuss it with.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 07/12/2021 12:07

Dear god is there no end to the grief wanking.

Doubleraspberry · 07/12/2021 12:08

I'm not sure the whole country is 'in tatters'. Most people have heard/read about the case, thought how awful it is, wondered what went wrong and what will happen now, and then got on with their own lives.

I'm finding the quantity of threads on here about it rather odd. What happened was appalling but what is the endless discussion achieving?
