Why would they need to include green card holders in a ban whilst upgrading vetting procedures? They've already been vetted.

The fact that the ban does not include Saudi Arabia speaks volumes, given the majority of the 9/11 terrorists were from there and the Executive Order specifically mentions that attack.

Grumpy, the President can issue Executive Orders mainly aimed at directing the federal agencies and what they do. I'm also very disturbed by the fact that Congress don't seem to be able to challenge one before it goes into effect, although they can then be overturned by the Supreme Court.

It is said to be temporary measure, but that's how all these things start. They say it's temporary while they get new laws in place or whatever, but it's really just to test whether people will stand for it before moving on with something more draconian. It's very frightening and it's very concerning that Mrs May refused to answer questions about it. I hope that Mrs Merkel turns out to be made of sterner stuff. Can't see her holding his hand somehow.

Would the above NYT article not be considered deliberate misrepresenting the story as this is only a temporary measure.
If any other country stopped working on immigration documentation while it worked on a new computer upgrade would it get the same trashing?

So if, whilst I was permanently resident in a country (with a job, and a family, and bills and a mortgage to pay) happened to travel abroad briefly for whatever reason, it would be totally reasonable to prevent me from returning home (because that's what permanent residence means) for up to 3 months? What happens to my job, my family, my bills to pay?

I think, politically in the US, this will do him no harm at all. I also think Mrs May knows what she's doing politically by aligning herself with him. Sadly, I think there are huge numbers of people in the UK who will be saying "we" should do the same.

I think the current US policy is abhorrent but I'm sure there are large numbers who think it makes sense, which of course is why we have the current leaders in both countries.
