It does sound frighteningly similar. And I say it as someone born and brought up in Soviet Russia. I cannot tell you how sad it makes me feel to see it happening here. Indeed it is taking it to the next level where citizens now self-censor rather than KGB censoring them. At the moment no professional or person with standing will ever say anything which could be edgy or controversial. The MP's response up thread is a good example of this. In the Rotherham case the police wouldn't touch it, nor would the Council because people were afraid of losing their jobs and careers if they were labelled racist. Soon ordinary citizens will start to self-censor in the same way. Nobody will bring themselves to speak the truth as the price will be too high. RIP Freedom of Speech, it was good while it lasted😶

I thought they were trying to shake off their opression reputation.

Other than the one response from UKIP mentioned a while back, has anyone had any response from their letters?

Was talking to dh about the thread, and the idea that the awful things some of the offenders may have been though making them disturbed and harm others, lacking empathy for their victims etc. I can't remember the exact wording, but that's what I took from some posts over the last several threads.

Wouldn't the wives, daughters, sisters, mothers of these men have been though and seen equally horrifying things? How come disturbed and traumatised women are not harming other people in similar numbers?

If cultures and religions play no part in some men committing sexually violent crime, then is it logical to say that it can't be culture and/or religion that's stopping the women from the same communities, who have seen the same horrors, be violent?

The regressive left is blaming this rise exclusively on the far right. The far right DO commit horrifying acts of antisemitism, but the bulk of the offenders in the 2010s appear to be Muslim.

Liesel absolutely - there is quite a lot of evidence from various war/refugee situations that brutalisation occurs, but as you say, in men, it often plays out in violence, whereas in women, it's more a traumatic response. Not everyone who experiences suffering and trauma goes on to develop issues, whether PTSD or MH problems, but it is an issue in many areas that there simply aren't enough therapists available to assist those that do. I also believe - quite strongly- that people also need to take ownership over their actions: to deny these men agency over their decision to attack women in this way, albeit only on account of their experiences as it may be, I think undermines those hundreds and thousands of men who have not chosen to express themselves in this way.

I do think there is a choice: plenty of people, sadly, grow up in homes where abuse happens. If every one of those children grew up to be an abuser, a drug addict or a criminal, we could extrapolate that no choice was involved. Being a refugee (or abused) limits the options open to you, for sure - but plenty of people take the "harder" choice and do not go on to repeat the behaviours they have experienced. By excusing those who do, however much we understand their sad lives previously, I thin we demean those who have made the decision not to allow that brutalisation to continue.

I've also had a UKIP response, but not even a holding one from my totally self-centred, self-promoting and useless female Labour MP as of yet: I'm thinking of popping to her next surgery for a cosy chat if there's no answer by then.

There has been 653 complaints in Cologne and another 150 in Hamburg now. This is making me angry all over again. How did the police let this happen? They must have known it was going on for hours but did nothing.

Among possible other things, they were afraid to be labelled as racist, which would destroy their career. Covering up of crime conducted by immigrants is systemic in German.

I also watched the video linked to above. According to the studio guests, Europe can look forward to wave of viscous crime as a result of mass migration from the ME & NA.

Vertigo I read the article. I am speechless and feel sick in my stomach. Such a very lenient sentence sends the wrong message.

I am horrified at this but not surprised.

I agree, our daughters will have to be extremely savvy, cautious, trained in martial arts etc.. However their wings will be clipped, I never thought this before now, but considering the cover up of assaults on women all over Europe for the sake of political correctness, we are heading for some sort of dark ages.

Regarding Emily and pal, their rhetoric has reminded me of the way Cage minimises crimes conducted by muslims.

I will never forget an interview with one of their representatives and Jon Snow after Mohammed Emwazi (Jihadi John) had been dealt with. Minimising and gas lighting. Such hypocritical words spoken so 'softly'.

Amnesty used to be affiliated with Cage but have distanced themselves now after the way they dealt with the Mohammed Emwazi situation.

Oh, it's virtually certain. Concerns like ours will be written off as scare mongering and the German social media censoring system will quash any reports of further attacks, unless right-wing extremists can somehow be blamed. The next incident we get to hear about will have to be unimaginably horrific to break through the political/media consensus.

I'm afraid I couldn't read the article, but there was one in the DM yesterday about a 3 year old being gang-raped at an asylum centre in Scandinavia.

I know we have paedophiles and rapists in our own community, but the ratios seem awfully screwed in terms of sexual violence and these perpetrators.
