'Oh ffs Emily, I'll ask you again, when was the last time hundreds of men gathered to assault women in a European city? This is not comparable to previous Oktoberfests or anything else, although it might be this year if nothing is done to stop these attacks'.
Attacks at Oktoberfest were on a significant scale and have been for many years. Estimates seem to suggest that the true number of cases, rather than those recorded, was much higher on some years. Scale of the attacks is not the only matter. The behaviour was very similar,so trying to argue that these kind of attacks are an imported phenomenom are false. Rape culture already exists in Germany. The attacks there were not taken seriously and evidently, the problem has continued. Why not look at these facts and the negligence and misogyny that already exists in Germany, that allows these attacks to happen and go unpunished?
So many of you are acting like women's rights and equality were all peachy until immigrants came along. Cultural norms, like victim blaming, have been a hallmark of Western society. In Germany, you need to have proven you 'fought back' to get a rape conviction. Women in Western culture are often made to take responsibility for preventing sexual harrassment. Women in Germany HAVE been suffering sexual violence in the streets a long time before refugees came to Germany.
