Can we just ignore Emily and keep on task

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 09:49

What points have you already got?

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 09:50

: 'Understanding how African and Asian men view and treat women in their own countries is crucial when dealing with the migrant crisis – because only when we understand their cultural practices can we help them to integrate. They need to understand that women are deemed equal to men in Western societies.'
Another quote by Saira Khan,

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 13/01/2016 09:50

Olivepip: "What about putting, in every pocket of every pair of jeans, jacket, shirt, a paper with a message too.
"

Nice idea, but the majority would piss on it. Being told by the infidel that a woman is equal .... come off it.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 09:52

I would go as far as asking we don't take in our tiny quota lone post pubescent boys and Men.

BarryMerry · 13/01/2016 09:52

I think the fact she hasn't responded to my comment where I spelled out facts speaks volumes about the vacuity of her argument. Let's move on...

kesstrel · 13/01/2016 09:54

The Times has printed an article this morning giving a breakdown of crime statistics in the Cologne area by country of origin. According to this, 0.5% of Syrians have committed a crime; but 40% of those from Morocco/Tunisia/Algeria combined have done so.

Most of the ethnicities given for the Tarrarush (sp?) attacks are from these North African countries. This makes sense to me, since these men actually have no right to asylum and are thus not refugees. I suspect they are resentful about this and about the likelihood of being returned to their countries of origin and also thus have no reason to place restraints on their behaviour.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 09:55

I am still waiting for a concise response to my question from early in thread four. I wanted to know the agenda PR for Muslim Men was.

scandifacts · 13/01/2016 10:00

request for the statistics about Denmark, here is a copy of my post (from thread iv)

TensionWheels, no, it is racist to state that those from the different cultures & traditions that come with a large migration of people are more likely to rape or sexually attack women. It is also racist that they are more likely to rape or sexually asault because of that culture or religion

I've been lurking on these threads but wanted to comment on emilybohemia's statement above.

According to Danish rape statistics 2/3 of all rapes are committed by ethnic Danes, 1/3 of all rapes are committed by immigrants or descendants of immigrants. Of the rapes committed by immigrants, the following nationalities are the most dominant: Turkey, Somalia, (area previously known as) Yugoslavia, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan.
Link to statistics and study here
It's in Danish but the table on page 23 is pretty clear.

Given these statistics and the fact that the immigrant population is approximately 10% of the total population in Denmark, do you really think it is racist to say that male immigrants from certain countries are more likely to commit rape ?

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 10:03

That's interesting, thanks Kesstrel.

A 23 year old Somalian asylum seeker was arrested in Ohlstedt, Germany last week and kissing a ten year old school girl and touching her genitals outside her school.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 13/01/2016 10:03

Absolutely, Barry, I and another did post the statistic about Malmo specifically and how sex assaults became rife some years ago, when a large number of immigrant men arrived - a disproportionate amount from Muslim nations.

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 10:03

www.zeit.de/hamburg/stadtleben/2016-01/elbvertiefung-hamburg-12-01-16 this is the source, a liberal left leaning news paper.

fakenamefornow · 13/01/2016 10:04

On women's hour now.

SomethingOnce · 13/01/2016 10:05

Woman's Hour on R4 now.

Olivepip59 · 13/01/2016 10:05

Women's hour now.

Back after meeting.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 10:06

Can anyone phone in to women's hour to ask a question

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 13/01/2016 10:07

emily: "Rape culture already exists in Germany."

Rape exists in Germany, but rape culture exists in ME-NA where it is endemic.

Is the Oktoberfest your only knowledge about Germany? Why dont you check Wiki, your main source.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 10:08

MNHQ contacted the bbc , I wonder if that's behind the end of silence?

Siwi · 13/01/2016 10:09

Women's Hour now.

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 10:09

I got the following reply:

"Thank you very much indeed for the links. You are quite right to be concerned. May I suggest that you might want to post some links to the article on Mumsnet."

Anyone else want to contact Mr Davies? I am not the best at formulating letters and writing to politicians but he seems open minded.

emilybohemia · 13/01/2016 10:10

Saira Khan is missing the point that native European men also grow up in societies where sexism is the cultural norm and heads have been buried about attacks committed by men of all backgrounds. Sexualviolence in Germany is a large and long standing problem where there is no significant variation according to religion, social status or background. The conditions for an outcry over male sexual violence have been there for a long time. I', not sure why Saira is trying to polarise the debate, but Loose Women is a poor qulaity show where they go in for that kind of thing.
