Just read that one in five pregnancies nationally end in abortion, and in London it is one in THREE! Surely this is not good!

This is the relevant story

OP posts:

Fairymum - I think it's actually 24wks here?? Or it may have been reduced to 20 wks fairly recently.

12 wks would be even better!

FairyMum · 12/12/2003 14:41

OH MY GOD! I didn't know that. I think even 12 weeks is late....I am shocked and looking very pale. 24 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!

FairyMum · 12/12/2003 14:42

M2T, I understand your posts differently now. I thought we were talking pre-12-weeks. I am so blond sometimes.....

M2T · 12/12/2003 14:42

See my point now Fairymum?

Okay - How about only abortions after 16wks on medical grounds????

Evansmum · 12/12/2003 14:47

M2T no-one aborts 'three of their children' they have three abortions - a foetus is NOT a child. It's not playing God to decide what happens to your own body, it is playing God to insist you can tell someone else what to do with theirs. You don't approve of the way some people live their lives, so what? And my point about being an unplanned pregnancy was that people who argue that they might have been aborted therefore abortion is bad are just dim, frankly.

pie · 12/12/2003 14:50

ummm...16 weeks with medical grounds? Oh a very slippery slope to then having to decide what counts as medical grounds.

FairyMum · 12/12/2003 14:53

I would say not after 12 weeks unless good medical reasons!

fio2 · 12/12/2003 14:54

you wouldnt really know at 12 weeks if there were medical grounds

M2T · 12/12/2003 14:55

Evansmum - I can assure you that at 23 wks pg my baby will very much be a BABY!

Dress it up all you like if it sounds better for you. And since its MYYYYY body then I wish everyone would stop harping on about passive smoking!

True Pie.... it was just a kind of clarification. Like I said before I'm not here to make any political statement, just to express my opinion about abortions (especially late ones) being decided on for trivial reasons..... and say how horrible this is.

FairyMum · 12/12/2003 14:55

Fio2?

M2T · 12/12/2003 14:57

Fio2 - I sure as hell hope they would since my hospital has stopped doing scans any later than 12 weeks!!!!!

fio2 · 12/12/2003 15:01

I just thought by medical grounds it means disability, well you wouldnt find out unless you had a cvs or amino - properly. I am not saying this is right or wrong. I personally couldnt abort but I dont judge those who do.

M2T · 12/12/2003 15:06

Fio2 - Even someone who has had 9 and refuses to take contraceptive???

You must be way more balanced than me! I'd have to hold back from slapping her!

um no I do not agree with someone having 9 abortions for no reason no.

fio2 · 12/12/2003 15:07

maybe I do judge, I just mean I can understand in majority of situations. ( I think is taking the piss

Really Secur?? That is disgusting and worrying too!

fio2 · 12/12/2003 15:13

( was meant to be a 9 !

tamum · 12/12/2003 15:16

Fio is right about the medical grounds, a 12 week scan would hardly pick anything up, it's for dates really. It would rule out all medical grounds if abortions all had to happen by 12 weeks. (I'm keeping out of this otherwise, but feel much the same as most of you seem to - support the right in general whilst feeling personally appalled)
