So is anyone going to continue buying NOTW?

Not that I ever really got it (holidays maybe for a bot of a laugh) but no more.

I wasn;t bothered too much by the celebs (though can see why they were obviously!) but to do that, its beyond disgusting.

But wiltl anything actually happen, or will they just repeat the usual lessons will be learnt shit

as I said on another thread, the kind of people who read the NOTW don't particularly care about the underhanded tactics that are used in the pursuit of a decent story.

Hacking the voicemails of a 13 year old is despicable, and should, IMO be considered a criminal offence as surely it's perverting the course of justice or at the very least hampering a police investigation, however I do think the readers of these papers bear some responsibility here. The reason why journo's use these kinds of tactics is to feed a demand.

The phone hacking issue has been ongoing for years, and no-one has proclaimed how despicable it is until now. Just because it was a celebrity or polititian rather than an innocent child doesn't make it any less wrong.

We have a dish and a skybox left from when mum was here, and have been tempted to get sky, but no more. I will shut the door in their faces next time they come round. Am watching the linked thread to see what the options are.

I've never bought NOTW but I have just cancelled my Sky, it feels very freeing.

No more Ice Age then (sigh). They're cutting his stake in ITV, but meanwhile we'll have to have that off too, as it were. He should never have been allowed to get in on ITV in the first place. Bother!

Still think it will be interesting what happens.

Dont forget the police had the information for years, it's amazing that it's taken the likes of Sienna miller etc to keep going on and on about it to get things moving so that we now find out all about this.

Do we know eh in company has cancelled their advertising yet?

It was The Sun (another Murdoch newspaper) that taped the infamous "Squidygate conversation between Diana, princess of Wales and whatsisface. She later claimed that her phone was being hacked...........makes you wonder

Well...

You know there's bee the phone hacking stuff going on where noir is have allegedly been hacking celebs mobiles to get their stories, well itnow turns out that so
Wine hacked into milly downers mobile when she was missing but before her body was found. They deleted some of the messages which possibly meant the police and her family thought she was still alive.

If I've got any of this wrong, I'm sure someone will be along to correct me.

It seems now they may have also hacked the phones of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, Kate and Gerry McCann and the families of some of the 7/7 bombing victims. I'm sure this has much further to run.

The Sun has been boycotted since Hillsborough by millions it's made no difference to Mr M because he has such a grip on the worlds media, can't be right if you ask me.

Follows a trend of always sounding dismissive when mentioning MN in the media. I remember Ian Hislop - whom I saw walking on the Kings Road looking ridiculous in a boater today - being equally dismissive.

I don't agree, WannaBe. Newspaper readers are not ringing NotW phones, demanding they go to any lengths to obtain a story. Most will just read whatever is printed. An awful lot will actually skip the distasteful stuff to read their favourite columns. I know someone who gets the Sun only for the sports pages.

The reaction to this scandal shows that the general public didn't know the depths of filth to which NotW was prepared to sink and, far from pressuring them, are showing their disgust and abhorrence.

It makes my blood boil to see these people trying to deflect responsibility by claiming that their readers forced them to do it.

During the aftermath of the Cumbrian shootings, tabloid journalists were offering large sums of money to local people to say where/when victims relatives, including children, were going to be at any given time. There is no depth that tabloid "journalists" will not stoop to in order to get their story. I'm annoyed at having to call them "journalists" because it tars legitimate news seekers with the same brush.

tanith, but there is clear evidence that newspaper sales increase when certain stories are published in them.

When Madeleine Mccann went missing there was a clear increase in sales when she appeared on the front page.

If solatious gossip about celebrities didn't sell papers then the papers wouldn't print them.

So while of course those who hacked into mobile phones bear the ultimate responsibility, those who buy the papers to read the stories also have some responsibility IMO.

It's like saying "oh I don't like chickens being kept in small cages and made to lay eggs" and still buying battery eggs. If you're buying the actual paper that has been indulging in these practices then you have a part to play.

I think we also need to accept that this goes far beyond some dodgy journalists - after all they must be getting these phone numbers from somewhere!
