Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Hi, i think I need to join too if I may... am officially a sahm since dd2 arrived 2 months ago, and am realising that I don't have a clue how to keep on top of the housework. I lurked on a "fully fledged" flying thread and some of the flylady pages years ago, and hated all the lilac and the loving yourself, but did find timing stuff (e.g. 15 mins of decluttering) very useful.

I'm not doing any makeup/ shoes nonsense. But I will do dishes and try to keep the sink clean, if not shiny (no dishwasher so keeping on top of dishes is a big enough job, I think).

MiniMincemeat · 02/01/2010 12:52

Afternoon everyone and a big welcome to mmmango. not doing too badly but a little stymied by the fact that ds is poorly and complaining of a headache. I personally think it is a case of too many late nights and not enough sleep but he is snuggled under a duvet watching dvd's, he's not even hungry he must be ill!

dw on done
wm on done
general tidy half
packup/putaway xmas decorations
try ( in a futile, destined to fail kind of way) to find room for dd's toys
food shopping done
buy work trousers
go see mil notdoing becausedspoorly
go back to babysteps and shine my sink

chaos if you start your essay and dwm if you start your revising, i may consider doing the preparation i need to do for training day on monday....might!

elliepac · 02/01/2010 14:14

x-posts with dwm, ds is also naked apart from some ben 10 gloves because 'my hands are cold' not the rest of him you understand just his hands if that makes you feel better

droitwichmum · 02/01/2010 14:26

Thanks ellie there's always someone else's DS who is wierder than your own

My DS is making a farm out of lego which has a mooring spot for boats and some guns to keep bad people away! He wants me to tell you all that it isn't yet finished so I'll update you later

Really can't get going this year! Not sure how mornings fail to happen when I have a 4 year old and 10 month old, but I guess I'm just talented like that ...

And cheap date doesn't even begin to describe it - I even have to pace myself with each drink or I get plastered! And as I'm still EBF I really have to watch what I drink Soon as I manage to get DD to drink some formula out of a bottle I'll be celebrating by not only drinking, but refilling my glass before I've finished it cos I don't have to keep track. Christ, I'm glad I had a mispent youth ....

anyway, today :
clear up NYE party remains mostly done
wash up done
washing 1 load
hoover kitchen
mop kitchen floor
B&Q
baby step: I tied my slipper laces

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 02/01/2010 15:05

It took nearly all day to get ds dressed yesterday. He spent most of it naked and it was an achievement to get him to put something on his boyhood. Its going to be a pain when he is no longer small enough for it to be acceptable

Cant start the essay til ds is in bed as need to not be disturbed so doing everything else instead. In the vague hope that i will get them done so i can focus tonight....

tibni · 02/01/2010 15:12

Hi all,

Had a shocking night with ds (severe ASD) last night. He "got up" at 2am and that was it for the night! I was so shattered I didn't think about giving him another dose of meds in fact I really didn't think at all! . Christmas and the change in routine is so difficult for him to manage - no swimming, horseriding, school etc and combined with this my parents had 2 weeks in the sun and he missed them too - his language and receptive level makes it very difficult to explain things to him in a meaningful manner.

Yesterday he had the mother of all meltdowns at the castle while we were walking the dog. DD (11) had to take over with pup while it took dh to manage him home. Think I always win the comp for having the weird child

Today I am on a go slow. I have managed to get the food shopping and go to the butchers. We all went a walk in the forest with puppy this afternoon which was lovely.
I'm just drinking a very strong black coffee and then I will try and get something done around the house.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 02/01/2010 15:31

It is no comparision really tibni I have an engineer or scientist. ds has just taken apart a biro to find out how it works... thank god for baby wipes.

BlackYellowRed · 02/01/2010 15:31

Glad to hear DS is not the only little boy who likes being naked most of the day and obsess about bad guys! I thought it was just him!

tibni sorry to hear of your troubles with DS. Walk in the forest sounds so lovely though! Was there snow?

I did the hoovering downstairs. Spending a lot of time gazing out of the window looking at the huge snowflakes falling down!

droitwichmum · 02/01/2010 15:34

Hi SSC and tibni - one word for you both - babysteps! Be kind to yourselves over the weekend and start properly on Monday

Picture of DS and his lego farm on my profile - beware he is naked (think he is just about decent) DS would like you to know that his farm has a giraffe, cows, chickens, pigs and a buffalo with 2 dogs and 2 cats to protect them (you would have thought that the guns would be enough really)

Off to find the ladder to get into the loft - back later

tibni · 02/01/2010 15:39

LOL - babywipes are good and those magic erasers are fab!

I have new oak furniture in the sitting room and saw teeth marks on the coffee table - initially blamed the puppy but it wasn't! LOL.

I laugh when fly lady talks about wiping down walls. Walls and ceilings in this house as ds is tall and stands on the back of the sofa leaving hand prints on the ceiling a la "spider pig" in the Simpsons.

Ds is licking my windows as I type watching the snow come down but he is happy and they will clean

Mmmango · 02/01/2010 16:14

Hmm, this might be a bit funny for me, with the time difference - am in Thailand where it's already 11pm. And tomorrow I'll probably chat away to myself before you all get up.

Still, there are no dirty dishes in the sink, and I'll have another whip round the living room for any mugs etc before bed

dawntigga · 02/01/2010 16:29

Have a shower done
Clean a bathroom done
Tidy a box of rubbish in my room done, well actually 2 boxes!
Take down the bloody tree! done

IAmADomesticGoddessTiggaxx

FlamingBird · 02/01/2010 16:55

ello

My sink is shining.

I must've done FLYlady the first time when DS was about the same age as DD2 is now - worked then, then it all fell by the wayside. I've tried a few times since, but it never stuck.

I need it to stick this time. I can't live in this hell with 3 children.

Pluto · 02/01/2010 17:04

havingagiraffe · 02/01/2010 18:02

Hi lovely fledglings,

I am starting for real on Monday but am going to try and get in the spirit before then, so I currently have bleach in my sink 'flylady style' so by the time I go to bed my sink will be SHINED

lol at your post Pluto - made me feel as if I've never been away and so glad that we are all still living in the real world and not cutesyville

Hello to any newbies - I see you guys are at 123 msgs already and it's only the 2nd. I suppose it is the time of year for good intentions.

Off to bath DS and then scoff my individual lemon cheesecake (and hopefully DP's as well)

ln1981 · 02/01/2010 18:42

HI just thought id check in!

everyone sounds like they have been very busy!

so far today i have:
-stripped all the beds, and made up the kids ones.
-dusted the kids room (with abit of help from them).
-done two loads of washing.

still to do:
-make my bed up.
-dust and tidy up my bedroom.
-put away some of the washing from earlier.
-do dishes from tea time.
-shine the sink.

Then have a nice drink and RELAX.

tibni · 02/01/2010 18:50

LOL at stainlesssteelcat - that is a really positive way of looking at the window licking

Yes there was snow BlackyellowRed ; the puppy loves it and goes crazy playing in it.

Well I have managed to change ds bedding, get it washed and it is now drying. Clean bedding is on the bed.

Dinner has been cooked and demolished and the dishwasher is loaded.

More strong black coffee has been drunk .

Will try and do a bit more tomorrow
