Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Done.
Might go in there later for another 15 minutes to clear and scrub the table.

matumble · 01/01/2010 14:37

done my sink.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 15:09

sink was shiney but will need doing again after which ever bright spark allowed my dad loose in the kitchen finally decides to kick him out again Will have to be done again later me thinks, along with clearing up the sawdust etc from the project thing that is happening.

It has taken 2 ltrs of diet coke to get me functioning and i am so glad that ds is in an occuppy myself nicely kinda mood. it is very helpful when i am feeling rough so i am making the most of this rarety and not doing much. Might up date the onld control journal though.

To do list.
Wash 3 pair wet pjs and 1 set bedding.
Fold and put away the clothes that are still waiting for this
survive without getting cross and grumpy and shouting.
find packet of painkillers that disappeared down back of chest of drawers - else be lazy and go round corner for a new pack.

Happy 2010 everyone, old and new, veterans and rookies of the Fledgling Flyers!

On this thread I will be going back to work 4 days a week after a year's mat leave so I have just two more weeks to do some bigger missions that won't be done until my DSs leave home next holiday. I also need to get my morning and evening routines nailed and make the most of my control journal. I bought a Filofax a few years ago but have never really used it; in 2010 I will be lugging it about everywhere.

I have already confessed to getting a cleaner once a fortnight so this I'm sure will be a great help too.

See you all tomorrow for some full on flying - baby grumpy so nothing much happening but cuddles here today!

DreamTeamGirl · 01/01/2010 18:36

Hi all

Thanks to DWM for getting us going again

Huge welcome to all the newbies and a welcome back to all my old friends

Happy new Year everyone

Oh dear god MrsGok that sounds vile!!

Pluto, if you can consider upping cleaner to once a week instead of fortnight do it. Its so worthwhile and keeps you on track really well

Like most of us I am still emerging to be honest so congrats to those of you who have shined your sink for the first time - but I warn you: its contagious!!

No lists for today but will be back tomorrow

MrsDinky · 01/01/2010 19:36

Hello, Happy New Year! Hello again to everyone from last month and welcome to all the new January people. Diet coke anyone?

Well, my downstairs is looking remarkably uncluttered considering we have had a houseful of guests today. This is mainly because we moved everything that was not furniture either upstairs or outside. The house looks lovely without pushchairs, scooters, toyboxes, large toys everywhere. Of course most of it will have to return, but I am going to be looking at things critically to see what can stay away. It was a bit depressing that despite flying efforts, once we'd cleared all this stuff, the house seemed really grotty and dusty underneath (bright sunny day shows every speck of dust problem!), thought I'd been doing quite well . On the other hand, three months ago it would have taken at least twice as long as it did to get it all sparkling .

Off to the sofa to watch the darts on TV again tonight. See you tomorrow.

threetimemummy · 01/01/2010 19:49

Ok, marking my place!! I am in - this is my year to get motivated!!

MiniMincemeat · 01/01/2010 19:53

........

oops, accidentally went to the December thread...I can't believe I've arrived at message 59!!!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Right ...

Going to read baby step now.

clemette · 01/01/2010 20:14

Marking my place. This year I will get to grips with actually doing this (rather than making my control journal look all lovely and then ignoring it).
Can't shine my sink until DH does the pots though...

MiniMincemeat · 01/01/2010 20:27

Welcome Clemette

Ok, have done decluttering in the hallway. Swept earlier today. Will shine sink before bed (after Gavin and Stacey and QI)!

Hope you have all enjoyed the first day of 2010, it has been lovely and sunny here.

StainlessSteelCat · 01/01/2010 20:34

Wow. Finally feel mentally together enough to type ... amazing what three glasses of cheap fizz can do to you after 10 months of EBF.

So, after an amazingly unproductive day, I'm going to go shine my sink, then go to bed and hope that I feel human tomorrow.

Here's to baby steps (of water)

tibni · 01/01/2010 20:38

Hello all; Happy New Year.

Well I have managed to catch up with the washing and ironing and even put the clothes away. Have sorted the xmas food out and done some general cleaning and tidying.

Tomorrow I am going to have to brave the supermarket as we are out of basics and I need to go to the butchers.

I have had visitors this afternoon and evening and I am shattered but in a nice way.

Hello all newbies and waves to old friends

Hello everyone and well done on making a start. Don't worry if you didn't get going today, it is January 1st, a Bank Holiday and family time after all. As the Flylady (or fat fairy as she is lovingly known to us) would say: you are never behind, you never have to 'catch up'; just jump in at any given point and you will have made a start.

I'm going to attempt a round-up as we are so busy already. If I miss you out I'm really sorry, it was completely unintentional, and help yourself to some Christmas cake ( in anticipation)

tibni good start to the year - keep at it!
SSC - babysteps are good. Sounds like you have turned into a cheap date (like me)
MM - a fellow QI fan!

Managed to shine the extra utility sink, which normally no-one can get near because of the clutter. It looks great and I am amazed at the sense of control and achievement - not in proportion to the very small size compared with the sea of clutter. Also took all the dc's artwork off the kitchen door - they are at secondary, and some of these things had been up so long they have left an imprint even after cleaning.... What is a control journal? Do I need one? My other resolution is to do a menu planner, though I can't even imagine this..but I will try. Liking the fat fairy tips for clearing the Christmas deco clutter before repacking for the loft. Hope you are all doing well. (PS apologies for overzealous new year posts from DS in my name)

droitwichmum · 01/01/2010 21:52

We love the (occasional) wierd post from a DC!

Isn't it amazing how something so small can make you feel so good? The trick is to keep at it.

Don't worry about control journals or menu planners at this stage- they will come along during the month. If you are desperate for one now I can post the link to the right page, or some of the regulars can give you their versions.

commuter · 01/01/2010 21:58

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm happy to wait and just continue with sinks at the moment. I also managed to throw out some semi used old bath smellies and shampoo - usually this feels like a step too far and i keep it all "in case". The rabbit and hutch are in again because of the subzero temperatures, but this is permissible clutter! Nice to be on this welcoming thread

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 22:10

Ok so i have done a bit -not much but a bit. I was putting a few bits of paper away and came across the 11 commandments of tidy from the fat fairy's control journal example thingy or whereever I came across it and it made me smile. that one mile have to be laminated and stuck to the wall next to my bed. It was these points that made me smile but are always my undoing:

Don?t allow yourself to be sidetracked by the computer.
Don?t try to do two projects at once. ONE JOB AT A TIME.

And i hadnt notice these when i looked through it previously c&P and printed it:

Do something for yourself everyday, maybe every morning and night.
Don?t forget to laugh everyday. Pamper yourself, you deserve it.

And this one helps with my new years resolution to be more positive:

Smile even when you don?t feel like it. It is contagious. Make your mind up to be happy and you will be.

So at the moment the fat fairy and i are friends. the sink is shiney, kitchen has been hoovered after its temporary stint as a workshop (to be repeated tomo) and I am going to log off for an early night in preparation for flying and getting alot done tomo. Clothes are out ready and sitting on the pile of paperwork needing to be filed. SO that is also tomo job picked

Night all!

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 01/01/2010 22:13

Today I managed to get the sink done but not thr fridge. Will have to put that on my list for another day.

I've got the wardrobes sorted so all the clothes are the right size for the boys. Other clothes in bags and labelled ready for the loft. Pulled DC2's bed out and pushed all the clutter out from under it. I tipped all the toys out from all the boxes on one set of shelves. The floor was covered in a foot deep of toys and crap. I wiped the shelves down and cleaned all the boxes out. Then starting from the door I started picking up and sorting and wiping down any toys that needed it. I have sorted about a fifth of it so far and have 1 black bag of rubbish, 1/2 a black bag of charity shop stuff, 1/2 black bag of stuff to keep and put in the loft and a carrier bag that I am putting jigsaw puzzle pieces in to try and sort sometime.

Feel very pleased with myself, was doing 15 minute stints, and hope to crack on a bit more tomorrow but will be out a lot.

Oh! and I have done 4 lots of washing.

missbennett · 01/01/2010 22:20

Hi, Please can I join in too? This is my first post on mn though have been reading for a while.....also trying to do Fly Lady as well, albeit haphazardly! Generally manage to shine my sink but that's about it! 2010 has got to be the year I get myself together and sort out my pigsty sorry house! And this thread seems really friendly and encouraging - just what I need! Today I have removed cobwebs from the hall, cleaned the bathroom (lick and promise!) and the sink is shiney! So a start......

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 22:27

missbennett: I'm hoping you are a P&P fan with that name. jump in join in and be prepared to fail a couple of times before it clicks. Aparantly it is perfectly normal. Follow on tomo with tomo's babystep and anything else you feel up to.

missbennett · 01/01/2010 22:32

Def a P&P fan! That's the trouble - would rather be reading than doing housework and the house is full of books - which need purging! Oh for Mr Darcy to take me away from all this. Though a lot of dusting at Pemberley!

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 22:34

you almost gave me a heartattack with a name like that. thought sis had hunted me down to taunt me.

droitwichmum · 01/01/2010 22:40

Thanks for the reminder DEM MrsGok fabulous start its amazing what you can do in 15 min bursts!
missbennett - I'm another P&P fan. Welcome aboard & well done with that sink.

OK - bedtime for flyers (think that's babystep 427 or something)
