Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

done

dressed for Mr Ocado who turned up at 7am

town for boring errands - why is that all the light bulbs in the house always blow at the same time and despite DH's obsession with keeping spares we never have the ones we need?

school run

a bit of school stuff

to do

mop the hall floor (thanks for the reminder SC) I forgot to order a new mop head from Ocado so I'm just going to be swishing dirt around really. Ah well.

ironing while I wait for DS2 to wake from his nap, then give him his lunch and then go to butcher if there's time before the school run.

pack an overnight bag - we're leaving boys with GP's tonight and going out for a well deserved curry!

Recycling will have to wait until tomorrow - too many bottles to fit in the back of my car

Despite getting up a the crack of dawn I don't seem to have achieved very much. Praise be for my lovely cleaner who will be coming to do her magic on Monday. Still have to tidy for her though...

Hi Ladies

Happy Friday!

On the subject of running Feetheart DH and I did about 20 minutes of 2 person running on the Wii fit a couple of nights ago and it was hilarious and a surprisingly good work out (my calves are still aching a little). I normally hate running - weather, as you say, plus I find hard/uneven surfaces are not good on my joints (old lady that I am).

MissB I am a bit concerned that one of my old bras could be strong enought to support the growing of vegetables! Did you watch Silent Witness last night. I wish they would just show it all in one episode I couldn't sleep for wondering what will happen next!

All three of us have colds here but not too bad so hopefully will be ok for the weekend.

I seem to have got back into it all again, a bit anyway. I tidied our bedside tables this morning and DS had great fun playing with all the coins, cards, pens etc that came out to be relocated .

The washing is up to date too and I even did some ironing !

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone. I'm off for a cuppa and some daytime tv .

elliepac · 22/01/2010 14:49

mm Ironing . What's that?

optimisticmumma · 22/01/2010 15:20

Afternoon all!

Well you have all been busy and I have had an upside down sort of day as I have only just made bed and swished and swashed (whatever!)
Anyhow I have:
Been to Tescos (result!)
Done errands
Washed filthy rugby kit in time for it to get filthy tomorrow again!
Emptied DW
Tidied up
Done Mission

I'm about to iron...

Mrs G thanks for your kind remarks. My DD did Lightning Process last March and it has been nothing short of miraculous! She was down to 2 hrs school a day if we were lucky and after the course went straight back to 100% where she has been ever since! It's just that I can't trust it sometimes and put too much store by everyday teenage troubles iyswim. We have been very lucky in that her recovery was confirmed by GOSH and she has been symptom free. That doesn't mean to say she can burn the candle at both ends - she can't. She does get tired, she does get stressed but then I think all teens do - they're under so much pressure...I know what it must be like having your DH with this terrible illness and I am so glad he is getting there too!

MissB - my vote is for a YANBU however I just think men are a waste of space when it comes to the everyday stuff (ie feeding DC)if they are not doing it often. Don't get yourself wound up by it just make sure you leave instructions next time despite their protestations!!

A big wave to everyone else on the thread. Have a good weekend!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 22/01/2010 16:03

Afternoon. i have had a very productive afternoon and have booked in to go visit 2 schools. am trying to get two more booked in by the end of the day. Will have a super busy week next week as a result but have decided to move area for applying for jobs and need to sort out school possibility for ds. Have 2 days off this week so gives the chance of sorting it out. Tis very exciting.

Done

Make appointments for top 4 choice schools
Email re observations
Sort out monday babysitter
Sort out lodgings for sunday night
Sort out ex wrt school apps

to do
Tackle another mini pile of work from the liked pile of doom
Sleep

Panic doing

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 22/01/2010 20:41

not doing paperwork orlaundry. ds is in bed and i think asleep i am in bed heading for sleep. an early night just about.

Night all!

PositiveAttitude · 22/01/2010 21:34

Bit quiet tonight isn't it??

OM - Hope today has been better than yesterday. We have got to calling ours "eggshell days" as we all have to walk on eggshells. Very tiring for everyone! Sometimes bed time is a blessed release!

MrsGok sorry to hear that your Dh suffers from ME too. (my DD3 is also a sufferer)

Ellie - Ironing must be a secret word for something that obsessive people like to do. Others seem to do a lot of it! Let me know if you ever find out what it is!

MM - Wii fit jogging is brill! And cycling.

MissB - I think my bras could probably have a vegetable patch in them. Cabbage anyone??? Hope the colds improve over the weekend.

In1981 - Anothe rcov=ntrol freak here. Quite satisfying to use a CJ.

Pluto - Why on earht does Mr Ocado come so early in the morning? Is he trying to catch all the ladies in their night attire?

MrsD - Thanks for the bookswap link. Do you use that site? It looks quite good. Avid reader here having problems with my mumsnet bookswap as I never seem to get a book sent when I should and I know I am now going to be getting about 3 in one go and have to read them all really quickly. Your site looks much more appealing.

feetheart - Not putting the list up worked yesteray probably because I would have looked at the never ending list of what needed doing and given up before i had started. Due to no list I had no expectations of what I hoped to get done, so impossible to fail. Actually did loads, so worked well. Normally I do like to have a rough plan and typing it on here does spur me on as I feel everyone will think i have been sat with my feet up all day if I haven't done anything!.

Mega waves to sc, mummy, PMPY, chaos, Tallulah and everyone else I have missed.

Spent far too long researching holiday villas today. Got excited that DD3 may be well enough to travel by the summer.
Housefull of teenagers tonight for a sleepover with DD2. Not much sleep going to be happening I suspect. They are like locusts in my fridge/cupboards.

Oh, just to say to whoever has the new American fridge freezer. Mine was delivered in August and I am still crazily in love with it! No matter how big a freezer I get though, I always seem to have twice as much stuff than should fit in!

Right, now brain dead, so off for the night. Rugby on telly, book in my hand. No red stuff for me tonight as I have to do a car run at 11.30 to collect DS. Always tomorrow!

Have a good weekend everyone.

MrsDinky · 22/01/2010 21:48

Evening,

Well, a busy day, got most stuff done, feel a bit unsettled today, so off for an early night, usually does the trick. DD got hysterical when she realised Mummy's car wasn't coming back, I felt very bad, I always feel a bit sad saying goodbye to an old car too. Silly really. DS was very excited about the new one though.

PA - I have been using that website intermittently for about a year, I did have one swap that was never reciprocated, and the person got booted off the site, but otherwise have made about 20 swaps successfully. The only problem is you have to keep at least about 20 books you are willing to get rid of for people to choose from, doesn't help with decluttering. It's nice though, looking at other people's collections and choosing something that you would perhaps never have thought of getting otherwise.

Sorry, keep hijacking the thread with cars, camping and now books! OFf to wash up, then bed. Night night all.

ps fruit/veg - 4
water - lots

feetheart · 22/01/2010 22:05

missbennett · 23/01/2010 00:16

Really too late to post.....have kept having a quick glance through the day and was going to do proper replies etc but tired now! Waves to all.......

Good morning - family fun day today! We're off out for the day so little/no flying today but kitchen tidy and something in the fridge for dinner when we get back.

More from the fat fairy on control journals for today's babystep

Have a good day

missbennett · 23/01/2010 09:09

Morning all!

Bit bleary eyed this morning and woke up thinking I had overslept - but then realised it was Saturday

So far:
-dressed etc
-delivered DD1 to work
-15 minutes Wii Fit

Still to do:
-Weightwatchers
-collect car from garage
-very minimal shopping as pay day not til next week so we are going to be creative with that we've got!
-home bless
-bite fingernails whiles DD1 at first driving lesson
-spend some 'quality' time with DD2 to make up for shoddy mothering over week

So that will do me for now I think!

Right, off to face the scales!

TALLULAHBELLE · 23/01/2010 10:07

Morning All.

Well we are all still in jammies, just finished breakfast. DT's had me up from 4:30-7am between them so it's like swimming through treacle this morning.

Friend coming over at 12:30 so better get cracking!

I see swish n swipe in lots of lists. Guessing bathroom? Quick wipe? Pleased to say did this whilst the DCs in the bath last night so 2 jobs done in one.

Started control journal too.

Have good dat everyone.

Mmmango · 23/01/2010 10:47

Morning!
hope everyone is well (and DWM, keep an eye on the posts - headed for 1000!). I have lots of questions today...

What's today's babystep about, then? Someone tell me what you've got down for your afternoon routine, I'm a bit flummoxed. Do we have any other SAHM's? Do you do your afternoon routine before picking up kids, or after?

And also, SnS - I read the instructions, and the fat fairy talks about using papertowels for the swiping of mirrors etc, but it's not very environmentally friendly, is it? What do you all use? And do you use windex or something specifically for the mirror, or just any old cleaner?

I'm glad to be done with the bedroom - there's still loads of clutter but I'm sick of looking at it - happy to ignore for another month. That's not very fat fairy, is it?

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 23/01/2010 11:45

mmmango- i use an old muslin. Mum still has the ones from when we were a baby and i use an old one of ds'. just shove in the washer when it lloks bit grubby - probably one a fornight when i get on top of doing house work.

I am still decluttering and now that i have decided to move will need to search out the fat fairy's advice on moving. I think someone linked to it earlier.

I got my early night last night and had 13hours sleep so feeling slightly better tirdness wise although a bit headachy. Off to get washinng mole hill down and packed for tomorrow and monday's trip away. Also to sort out bits for Tuesday's school observations. Taking it easy to day is the plan but will see what happens.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 23/01/2010 11:48

that should have read -from when we were babies/ or from when i was a baby.
I have sisteres and my thoughts still mushy so i am off to drink a load of water.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 23/01/2010 12:00

Ok so the plan is to move in july/august. so that gives me 6 months to declutter for the move, sort out the house (rented so need to do in june) and figure out how to transport and what furniture/white goods i will need to buy. So the plan is to babystep the finances, and hit the decluttering more strictly.

A planning type day. lovely.

optimisticmumma · 23/01/2010 13:39

optimisticmumma · 23/01/2010 13:42

mmmango - meant to say I use old tshirts and towels etc cut up for cleaning and then shove them all in the wash. Not a j cloth in sight here. It works really well...I draw the line at old knickers though

Mmmango · 23/01/2010 18:11

Chaos - happy planning for your move, you sound organised already.

Optimistic - old tshirts are a good tip, thanks. ODn't think I can go the muslin route while dd2 is still using them - I'll get the wiping-baby's-mouth ones confused with the wiping-sink-and-toilet-seat ones. Not good.

Pluto - how's the floor, did you get to it yet?

Hope everyone's having a good weekend
