Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Just marking my place ready for tomorrow!
(Waves to everyone from under a pile of discarded wrapping paper...)

feetheart · 31/12/2009 07:56

I'm in though may not be able to keep up/post regularly.
Have tried baby steps a few times over the years but tend to slip after a while. Will be working more in 2010 and want to have as much time with DS before he starts school in Sept so NEED a routine.

See you tomorrow though it may be a bleary start

Another one back for this again - determined this time not to get grounded so fast. Still, it's got to be easier to get the house into shape than myself, doesn't it?

Thanks DWM for being so organised and starting this thread, and hello (again) to all the other fledglings.

See you next year - Happy New Year

We never got to put the decorations up The tree is up, so that is something, everything is in the boxes still.

At the moment we have the new wardrobes up in the littlies room (Ikea Pax) and the ol wardrobe is on the landing and the chest of drawers is shoved in a corner. Need to get the next size clothes down from the loft for both boys, but ca't do that till the landing is cleared. Need to sort their toys (charity, bin, keep to play and keep for loft) All their shelves need dimantling and the stuff that has got underneath sorted. DS2 bed needs moving and all the detritus that has found it's way under neath sorting. Then we have to do something similar to DS1's room. That is just the start I am behind in everything housework wise.

Well I went to make a start. Thought I would put the 3 DS's in the bath to play while DH and I started on the kids room. Opened the bathroom door and wished I hadn't, on Boxing Day DH put them in the bath and dealt with them and put them to bed while I was chatting to my mother on the phone. When he came down he told me that DC3 (2.6) had pooed in hte bath so he had to get them out and shower them down in the en-suite. Since then I haven't been in the bathroom as everyone has been having showers. As I opened the door the smell was horrible, he had drained the bath but hadn't cleaned it, so everything was coated in this layer of poo, bath, toys, anti-slip mats, flannels. it has just taken me half an hour to clean it and I haven't done the toys yet. Have bunged the kids in and will put the toys in to soak with disinfectant afterwards.

Any way have just been to check on DH and to tell him as my hips were painful with bending over the bath I would be taking a break and the mess in the kids room is horrendous, he hasn't been methodical about it at all. So I just looked and looked away and dashed downstairs to rest and wait for the painkillers to kick in and deal with it in a minute [roll eyes]

Happy New Year everyone!

Been woken up by a cat so decided to post links then back to bed for a bit until DS decides to wake up

The babystep for today is here. Some of you already had a go at this but do it again! Shining your sink is the cornerstone of flying (and it makes you wash up as well!)

If you are new, that is all you have to do.

The zone for the next couple of days is your entrance/porch/dining room. If any (or all) of these areas have clutter in them, spend 15 minutes decluttering. If you need help with where to start (and who doesn't?) you will find some guidance here

The mission is a quick vacuum and sweep in the zone.

Finally the Holiday Mission is to get rid of any food you still have lurking around.

No sign of DS - I'm off back to bed. Have a good day and I'll be back later

MrsGokWantssomeChristmasSpirit · 01/01/2010 08:47

I will probably manage the sink and the clearing out of the fridge today

matumble · 01/01/2010 09:13

Ok well I can do the sink but there's no way I'm de cluttering my hall today! It always leads to an argument about shoes (his not mine!) and I have next doors garden chairs in there from Christmas which I am not taking back in this weather.

That sounds a lot like excuses to me so maybe I will guilt myself into it later but for now I'm standing firm.....

droitwichmum · 01/01/2010 09:54

That's ok ma. You only need to do your sink today. Decluttering and missions are for those who have done the babysteps before

OP posts:
matumble · 01/01/2010 10:13

aha, thanks.

well I don't have any bleach so my sink is currently soaking in very hot stardrops solution.

weebump · 01/01/2010 10:14

Ooh, I'm tempted to join in with this. My tiny flat is ever so grotty. Got to get it cleaned up.

walkthedinosaur · 01/01/2010 10:50

Good morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR no hangover here so I'm going to try and get started with the new year's resolutions one of which is keep on top of the house, so I'm off to empty the DW and sort the hallway.

Making a big New Year dinner so will be busy this afternoon and of course it's the Big Dr Who night tonight so dinosaurs big and little are going to be huddled around the TV with our tissues.

Have a great day!

swanriver · 01/01/2010 11:02

Happy New Year.

swanriver · 01/01/2010 11:33

Well, dh emerged from his lie-in so
I have achieved following only but

threw away all odd crayons, stray felttips and coloured pencils and made a neat stationery section in drawer of writing pencils, rubbers, rulers calculators and sellotape
took several odd things out of kitchen and took them to the rooms they should be in
removed some more christmassy stuff, teatowels, santa plates for hoarding

now 15 mins of genuine scrubbing

droitwichmum · 01/01/2010 11:45

Welcome weebump - give in to that temptation and join in the fun
