Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Afternoon, I mean evening,

Not much done today really, usual dishwasher and swish and swipe, that's about it. Went shopping by myself to nearest big town, I have felt a bit cut off from the world since Christmas with all this snow, having until September worked 30 miles away it feels a bit weird to sometimes not leave my town for a couple of weeks at a time now. Just got back from a party with both DCs.

MMango - I am a SAHM too. I went back to work after having each DC (4 and 6 now) but was made redundant in September, so having a year as SAHM till DD starts school. I decided it was a brilliant opportunity to declutter the house, found this thread and the rest is history.

I use a microfibre cloth for my mirrors, put a tiny bit of water on it to wipe, then fold it to a dry bit to polish. Don't do the swipe exactly per Flylady as too much stuff on my surfaces, I do the toilet and one or two other bits of bathroom every day, max 2 mins except when cleaning the bath or floor.

Afternoon routines - after school for me. though have never written it down, it consists of supervising the hang up of coats, putting away of gloves etc, checking inside book bag, emptying lunchboxes and putting in sink and cup of tea for mum.

MrsG - I have pile of Freecycle stuff sat by my feet too.

Pluto was it you that commented on lightbulbs? I decluttered my lightbulb box the other day, dozens and dozens yet still never the one you need. It seems as though every light fitting in this house needs a different one.

Better go, DCs requiring attention.

am off to bed. not going to have computer/internet access for a couple of days. ENjoy the rest of the weekend and happy flying next week.

tibni · 23/01/2010 21:42

I have spent all day in training for my new job. I really enjoyed it but my brain is exhausted with all the new information.

DWM - thanks for asking. I am slowly getting back on with my routines. How are you?

Early night for me as I will have a very early start. dd wants to go to the county showground as it is gundog day at the dogshow and she fancies showing our pup when he is old enough.

Good evening fellow flyers!

Seems to have been quite a busy day here and got some bits and pieces done:

-fat club- gained half pound but think because we ate at quiz last night and meal served late so not too concerned
-got car from garage - warning light on again though and think may need new catalytic converter
-minimal shopping as skint
-tidied out food cupboard, fridge and freezer in order to find meals from what we have
-swept kitchen floor
-took bottles to bottle bank and old sheets to clothing bank
-yesterday's mission
-shined sink
-DD1 survived first driving lesson
-DD2 managed to get hair seriously tangled round hair brush whilst trying to dry hair and had to be cut free
-Enjoy glass of wine

See you all tomorrow!

MiniMarmite · 23/01/2010 23:26

Just checking in to say goodnight.

My family are visiting tomorrow but I'm feeling suprisingly relaxed about it all...will this come back to bite me in the morning or am I actually organised? Not sure!

DH is still working so I've been MNing in peace keeping him company but really tired now so off to bed.

[SC tiptoes in, boils water for tea and coffee, squeezes some oranges]

Hello everyone [lunges for black coffee]

Good morning Mummy - apologies - no sooner than you kindly say I support the thread with my posts, then I promptly disappear for 24 hrs!! And you haven't slipped at all, don't know how you keep up with everyone tbh - hope you had a good day out yesterday.

Just to be clear, I can't do "special" office clear out this coming week as too busy (intending to do so week after) but maybe you and Pushmepullyou could get a head start and I'll catch up - carpe diem and all that

Just been extremely busy here (office) and unusually we were out Friday night and last night too (got in at 1.30 this am - yawn - and then was too intoxicated wired to sleep so did some ironing for 40 mins to calm down)

Hope everyone is soaring high ...

Mini-M hope the visit goes well and that you have got over your colds.

Congrats on your productive day yesterday MissBennett (I have managed to put on weight this week despite drinking water and scrupulously eating my 5-a-day - I think it's because I was sat in front of a screen for most of the week) Glad your dd2 is feeling better btw.

tibni have fun today - I really miss going to traditional English agricultural shows ...

"Yo" to WhereChaos - all your new plans sound v. exciting - good luck with them - and look forward to "seeing you" soon when you come back on-line. Have a good trip and
here is link to Fat Fairy moving tips

Mmango Oh dear! I DO use dh's old underpants (NB they have been washed at
90°c!! and are v. good quality, thick cotton so seems a shame to waste as usually just a bit holey!!) and old towels cut in half - keep a stack in the bathroom itself (out of sight).

I also have a spray of half white vinegar/half water which I use to spray shiny bathroom surfaces: tiles, mirrors, surfaces, leave until dry-ish but not completely dry, then rub off with stiff old towel.

Newspaper is the most eco-friendly solution (the print removes smears and makes everything shiny) but although I use it to polish windows, I don't use it in the bathroom because it's easy to get finger prints everywhere ...

here are some examples of afternoon routines

Personally, I have merged my afternoon and evening routines in to one because I am old tired and lazy trying to make better use of my time to do more creative things in the evening. So, I tend to combine like with like ie

  • when clearing up from supper, I wipe down table and immediately set breakfast things ready
  • when home from school I try and tend to wet laundry washed that morning, then load machine again on time delay switch to come on for following morning (if that makes sense)
  • when dd gets changed out of her school uniform when she comes home, at the same time as putting her dirty clothes in the panier, we lay out clean clothes for the next morning
  • when emptying out dd's bag and lunch box after school, lay out clean lunch box with non-perishable things in it (eg. oatcakes, apple, napkin) for next day

more routines here

Optimistic 'tis good you are chilling

MrsDinky are there any clubs/organisations/local interest groups that you could join? (I still have pictures of my first car bought when I was 19 many, many moons ago!! Still bring them out and sniff when I look at them occasionally!!)

Tallulah hope you had better night last night

lol at your alternative "vegetable patch" PA - my old bras would certainly make good grow-bags

Well done for getting back on track Ellie

Hello to Pluto MrsGok Feetheart 1981 and anyone I have missed?

Have we lost BlackYellowREd btw?

Managed to get through must of my tasks on Friday but not doing much Flying this w/e tbh. Yesterday was usual ballet, errands, lunch, followed by afternoon in office while dd "helped" by "rearranging" stationery cupboard, followed by church and traiteur dinner.

Today = morning routine, homework (dd),riding, lunch, party (dd), get ready for tomorrow.

Still not making in roads in to the clutter. Must try harder.

Back to post about body clutter later.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

StillCounting · 24/01/2010 08:35
