Oh nuts -- have just realized I don't have any cloth napkins for Seniors tomorrow night. It's too late to email the girls and have them bring some. Wonder if I have something else we can do at the last minute.

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 20:59

Scout that is great progress.

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 21:00

What were you planning to do with them Scout? What sort of activity are you looking for?

redlac · 10/01/2012 21:03

What went wrong with the pasta in the slow cooker carrots? I found a recipe to do spag and meatballs in the slow cooker but going by your post its put me off a bit

Scout19075 · 10/01/2012 21:07

carrots We were going to napkin fold. As in, make those fancy-schmancy napkin creations you see at fancy-schmancy restaurants. I thought I had some but turns out what I thought were napkins tea towels. ARGH! My Seniors like a bit of silly and fun (at 14 to 16 they're all stressed with exams and extra curriculars so like to revert back to their inner 5 year old). However, this is why it's on my to do list for today and not tomorrow -- in case I have problems I have time to sort myself out.

redlac I've made lasagna in the slow cooker before. It wasn't bad, just a bit drier than I like my lasagna. I'll just add more sauce and not cook it for as long next time.

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 21:14

The pasta disintegrated a bit and went very stodgy.

Scout could you nip and buy paper napkins somewhere?

Do you teach them or is this a youth club sort of thing?

Scout19075 · 10/01/2012 21:22

Do you think heavy paper napkins would work?

Seniors are "Senior Section/Rangers" the age group after Guides (which is after Brownies). I'm a Guiding volunteer used to be with Guides and reopened our Senior Section unit, so did two units. The Guide unit has shrunk and so I've backed out a bit (due to not being needed and needing to be home for TS's bedtime since MrScout isn't reliable to be home at the same time every night) but run the Seniors unit (since they're smaller and more flexible on meeting times).

Carrots just wondering how many posts you can have on a thread before it has too many? We have around 886!

Do you think we need to start a new one yet?

carrotsandcelery · 10/01/2012 21:45

I remember you mentioning guides earlier now you mention it Scout. D'oh! Even your name! Sorry.

A lot of restaurants use heavy paper napkins so hopefully they would work. I would try it out first though.

What sort of space do you have? I used to teach and when the students were wound up and stressed I always recommended moving around and being silly.

Would they enjoy a party? (like a little kids tea party?) eg musical statues, crazy dancing etc. I know it sounds a bit twee but kids that age rejoice in re embracing their inner child (as you said) and need to be silly and let off steam.

BlackCat I have been thinking that all day. The thread is taking forever to load and moving a bit faster. I will start a new one and link to it here.
