Thanks Black great link btw Wink. I will have a look at the other thread.

For the first time ever there is no dirty laundry or ironing to do (other than what we are wearing). It will not last; I know this.

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 13:51

Hello everyone. I am finally back from the hospital and feeling much happier. It was a much more positive meeting than last time and I have asked some of the tricky questions I wanted to ask and got concrete answers as well. Yay! It's going to be a long haul but good things can happen Smile I am so relieved as it took me about 2 weeks to recover from the last appointment as we were just so, so Sad. Positive works better for me.

On the house front I have done very little as we left so early and I am only just in.

I shall endeavour to catch up a bit though.

I may start a thread about it later but I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas for high calorie but healthy snacks I can give ds. He needs 3 to 4 a day on top of meals and I am trying to make them as junk free as I can.

I am planning to make zoo's flapjacks and oatmeal and banana muffins today and/tomorrow - both of them low sugar recipes. I also do cheese and crackers, bananas, breadsticks and various dips, carrot sticks and various dips, half a sandwich, cheesestrings, brioche, pancakes, soreen loaf, shop bought dairylea dipper things... erm? I know this isn't really flying but it is a big part of my flylady routine preparing these things during term time.

My understanding is that:

hotspot is an area of your house where things get dumped and build up eg mail, junk in fruit bowl, round the door, kitchen table, shutter unit (craft cupboard) in our house. In my case these could build up daily and tackling them fairly frequently helps a lot.

room rescue is whizzing round the room doing a general tidy up eg toys in toy box, mugs in dishwasher, clothes in wash/rooms/hooks, books on shelves etc

declutter to me means a combination of a tidy up and throw out of things no longer needed. This to me is often a bigger job such as a room that has become a dumping ground that needs to be gradually reclaimed like my study was - it seems for many it is the cupboard under the stairs. The whole area doesn't need to be completed but there will be 5 or 10 or 15 or 30 mins left of it to do once you have finished.

the fling is a more concentrated throwing out of items no longer needed into bins, recycling, donation, ebay etc.

There is obviously a big overlap in each one but generally it is all tidying up and reclaiming and controlling the house.

I would adapt all of them to suit your own lives though, as long as you do them. People on my first thread who worked would adjust what they did daily and did more on one day when they were at home instead, or one evening etc.

Doing any of it is progress and worth continuing, even if you don't manage it all every day.

Right - I have an hour until a quick Brew before pick up at school so I imagine I can get quite a bit done!

WELL DONE EVERYONE ELSE - WE ARE ALL MAKING FANTASTIC PROGRESS ALREADY!!! Grin

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 13:51

Whoa! Sorry for the huge post Blush

Eggrules · 09/01/2012 13:57

Thanks carrots that makes a lot more sense.

What about peanut butter on toast/crumpets?

Enjoy your cuppa.

bessie26 · 09/01/2012 14:49

mmmm peanut butter on crumpets? We had ginger soup for lunch (I may have to rename it as DD1 always calls it orange soup) I got a box out of the freezer that should have been 2.5 (adult) portions. The DDs ate it ALL between them (I had toast!)

carrots afraid I can't really help with the snacks (where do you want the calories from? fat/sugar/carbs?), but keep meaning to ask if your DS eats quorn? I try not to give my DDs too much of it as it is very low fat. Would he eat mince occasionally?

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 15:10

An hour goes a long way. I have made the flapjacks, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, cleaned the worktops, decluttered the table and cleaned it, folded the dry laundry, put another wash on, hoovered hallway and kitchen and part of master bedroom and tidied up the dc's toys a bit.

I am now having a small Pepsi and sampling the flapjacks. They are lovely zoo and much less greasy than flapjacks can be. yum!

Crumpets are a good idea Egg I will see if he enjoys them.

bessie I know we have debated the validity of this feeding up of ds a few times. It does seem to help him control his emotions more when he eats little and often, although he is still painfully thin. He wouldn't eat real mince and I wouldn't be able to cook it for him either. I have cut back on the quorn for the family, partly because I felt I was using it a bit too often and partly because it is so low fat (normally a good thing I know).

I am trying to keep the sugar to a minimum, even at that he is probably getting too much. I would also like to keep the salt low and keep a background eye on the sort of fats he has (an area I remain a bit confused about). Not very helpful really is it?

Do you think a boiled egg would be a good snack?

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 09/01/2012 15:17

Thanks for explaining all that up there .
I'm not always great at putting it the right way.

Must go will be back later.

liveinazoo · 09/01/2012 15:30

my ds is a skinny little thing-his back and legs join but there is no visible padding on his bum so looks like legs go straight into his backto this end im always trying new things to "fatten him up"
carrotsticks and nut butter
cheese scones
frittatta,chilled
oatcakes and mashed avocado
avocado,tuna and tomato sarny
homemade sugar free muffins
smoothies with ground almonds/full fat dairy/ground seeds added
im told nut milks are good.hacent tried them though
pitta or english muffin mini pizzas
cheese straws
have a savoury muffin to try out-parsnipand cheese.will let you know how they are!

hope something there might be of use
not got much flying done today.ds wanting lots cuddles.have managed to get load soft toys into the machine just now(3rd load today) and the stair gate and fireguard and2 crates fischer price are now packed up in dp car ready to be taken to his client
if you do start a thread i will lurk for ideas.ds immunity is compromised as he has no fat reserves to keep him going when he is unwell and he takes ages to pick up and is quite weak and sleepy...anyway.dp gone to get dd then hes offered to do a pile ironing(not guna say no to that!)
will make some tea/supervise dd reading/do baths,bedtimes/wash up and do sink then pop back later
p.s sorry for mammoth message!

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 09/01/2012 16:01

By the way my last post was meant for Carrots.
I was in a bit of a rush Blush

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 16:11

Did school pick up catch you by surprise BlackCat??

I wrote a long post there and it vanished when mumsnet crashed.

The main thrust of it was - great ideas, thanks zoo.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 09/01/2012 16:12

DD is being a bit of a Threenager at the mo! She keeps opening the fridge and getting the milk out Shock and being generally curious in the kitchen!
She has just spilled the cats water.Hmm

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 17:19

I can remember that age well BlackCat - you turn your back to tidy up the mess they have made and they promptly make a new one will you are clearing up!

I have got ds playing maths games on the computer. The psychologist said no tv/wii/computer/ds after 6pm but he is quite engrossed so I will leave him until 6 and at least it is a bit educational (and he has done his homework).

She has also asked that he doesn't watch anything or play anything until he is dressed in the mornings. He is to get dressed straight away, even at weekends, so that fits in nicely with flylady. Grin

What's everyone having for their meal tonight? We are having quiche, roasties and brocolli (sp?) in a bid to use up all the excess food we have hanging around.

bessie26 · 09/01/2012 19:01

DH is making 3 bean chilli while I go out for a run Smile

Tonight I need to

  • run & shower
  • do meal plan
  • see what deals I can find on a new car seat for DD1 (perfect timing as DD2 has almost grown out of hers too!)
  • finish the wine left over from last night
Scout19075 · 09/01/2012 19:07

Stupid internet ate my post. Let me try again.

We're having burgers, chips and veg. Blush Grin

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 20:02

The dps and dhs seem to take a bit longer to catch onto this don't they. It reminds me of that stage when you first bring a newborn home. Most of the dps and dhs I know took a bit longer to catch on to that too - but they got there in the end! Good luck with everyone trying to break in a partner as well as flying themselves.

liveinazoo · 09/01/2012 20:15

redlac · 09/01/2012 20:27

evening!
Well first day back at work & school and I'm still flying :)
Was organised this morning so was easy to get out the door although once we got to school DD didn't want to go! Came home and made macaroni cheese with chicken (would Maccy Cheese on toast work for your DS Carrots? (sorry don't know your backstory)), all the dinner dishes are done and put away and left overs sorted out for tomorrow.

Liking your eating off the baking tray Live

I've just the one DD who is 5 (6 in March)

liveinazoo · 09/01/2012 20:38

carrotsdid you post a thread regarding ds?

Scout19075 · 09/01/2012 20:52

I've just finished dinner. MrScout is still eating. So I will sit here and enjoy instant messaging/chatting with an old school friend who lives in central/western Canada and is eight time zones behind us. I haven't seen her in nearly 20 years but we keep in touch via email and chat.

Tonight I will:
wash the dishes
wash the pots/pans (though the burger pan may need to soak a bit)
bedtime routine (must start laying clothes out)
entry into Toddler's journal
put phone on to charge
make sure bag is packed for swimming lesson tomorrow

I haven't done my 15 minutes in the living room and with MrScout home & watching television I don't dare. But seeing as I did a good 30+ minutes in the kitchen/dining room I don't feel bad/guilty.

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 21:14

I haven't zoo but I will do that now as it might help a few folk if there are 2 of us just on this thread. Where would I post? Maybe "chat" would get the most traffic although I suppose it should go in food.

carrotsandcelery · 09/01/2012 21:35

I have posted in Food zoo.

Still no sign of Angel. Did she mention going away?
