I should have said I did get out and we got an hour's walking in before it was dark and we were rewarded with the most amazing sunset. Even ds enjoyed it.

We also got our Tesco shop done. The budget was £60 and we came in at £59 something so it was pretty tight but we made it. It is all put away.

Someone asked what we were all having to eat tonight. This is the last day of the holidays for the dcs so they were allowed the hot dogs they asked for. I had bean and pasta soup from the freezer. Dh is still at work.

carrots The fringe problem was simple -- the hair was down to the end of my nose and I couldn't see. I took a pair of scissors to them and, hey presto, I can see again. It's much easier to fix the fringe problem without TS around and MrScout took him out for a drink this morning so I could have a few minutes peace at home. It's amazing (1) how quickly time without TS goes and (2) how much I can get done in that short amount of time.

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 19:00

Ah! I see Scout. I thought we were going to have an exciting foray into Style and Beauty there for a minute (it scares me)

Scout19075 · 08/01/2012 19:02

Ah, no, sorry carrots. I am boring. I did dye my hair a few times in my younger years (uni and soon post uni) but nothing daring. I am too old for craziness and too boring give a hoot.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 08/01/2012 19:30

Carrots Have you made Jamie's Leek and potato soup before?
or any soup?
I made it today but have followed the instructions in the book and we have too much so what do you do with the excess?

I have done one load of laundry (Must remember to get it out of machine and hang on airer)

Will be off to do bath's in a minute.

I was thinking about Angel too. Hope she is alright.

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 19:39

Did you like it BlackCat?

Did you enjoy making it?

I would cool the excess and put it in a tupperware style tub in the freezer, or have it for lunch tomorrow.

I have made it before but it is very close to my dmum's homemade vegetable soup so I generally make that instead so I can't remember the quantities.

Eggrules · 08/01/2012 19:43

lamb, dauphinoise, green veggies and crumble after.

Fluff and fold is done
Dishes done and DW running - even oven dishes are washed and away.
Showered/ bathed and clothes laid out
I will do a final 10 min blast of kitchen before bed.

most soups freeze well I think.

liveinazoo · 08/01/2012 19:47

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 20:57

live recipes are always welcome on this thread (especially veggie ones).

Poor little one. Sore throats are vile. Are there any white blisters? Dd was very prone to tonsilitus and I could usually smell when she had it. When I looked there would be white blisters on them. Caught quickly an antibiotic nips it in the bud very quickly. You probably know this already but just incase.

I hope he feels better soon. Sad

Scout19075 · 08/01/2012 21:00

I like recipes too, live.

Am off to do the washing up and some ironing of work shirts (blurgh). I hope the slow cooker cools soon so I can empty it (not enough in there for a meal but too much hot liquid/sauce to pour out until it cools).

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 21:06

I need to do packed lunches and uniform laying out but dh is watching Sherlock, and has looked forward to it all week, so I will be quiet for now.

Scout19075 · 08/01/2012 21:17

MrScout wants to watch Sherlock too and just asked me about turning it on (then dared to ask about work shirts -- he's lucky I didn't go find the iron and chuck it at him).

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 21:20

Oh dear Scout - are you two speaking to each other yet? Tell him to do his own work shirts if he needs some. You are not HIS mother.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 08/01/2012 21:20

Carrots If I wanted to keep the soup for lunch tomorrow would I keep it in the fridge till then?

Egg you sound like you are doing well! Smile

I haven't quite cracked the washing up before bed. I think I prefer to do it in the morning. [too tired emoticon]

Talking of washing I better get that lot out of the machine Blush

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 21:26

Yes BlackCat - I let it cool and then put it in the fridge, either in a bowl with some cling film over it (or foil or a plate) or in a tupperware.

Lots of recipes taste better on the second day - Jamie's Korma certainly does.

My dmum used to leave soup on the hob with the lid on and then just boil it a bit the next day but that probably isn't really a good idea. Shock

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 21:28

My friend has a friend who makes soups in batches and freezes them in zip lock bags, flat, then stores them on a shelf in her freezer like books on a shelf.

She did the same with baby food.

Eggrules · 08/01/2012 21:33

Watching Sherlock with a cuppa.

Mr Egg has redeemed himself by sorting ALL the recycling and putting it ready to go out on TUE morning. He has a bad cold but knows I hate this job.

Ta Black, it felt good to open the door and not panic Grin

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 21:35

I have got sucked into Sherlock now too. It's a bit scary Shock

Is Boffin still with us? She hasn't posted for a while.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 08/01/2012 21:43

Thanks Carrots will put some in fridge. I need to get some more tupperware containers as I only have a small one at the mo.
I am Shock at the zip lock bags but I suppose it's a good way to store lots.

I am going to go to bed in a minute, I still need to empty the washing machineBlush.

I might get up early to see if I can do anything before the DC get up but it all depends how DD sleeps tonight!

Night all! Smile

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 21:46

I was shocked by the zip lock bags too BlackCat.

I hope you sleep well.

bessie26 · 08/01/2012 21:56

we had tomato soup for tea tonight.

We always make more soup than we need & put the rest in plastic containers (that we get from sainsburys) in the freezer. In fact, we do this with most meals!

I'm drinking wine again

bessie26 · 08/01/2012 22:01

I forgot to say, I used to use plastic bags to store soup. If you put the bag in a large mug or jug it's easier to fill. We started using the plastic boxes as we can reuse them & they look neater fit nicely in the freezer drawer.

redlac · 08/01/2012 22:03

I wonder if I will ever be able to make vegetable soup which is as good as my mums & grannys! My mum does the old leave on the hob with a lid and heats up too.

I was going to have an early night as back to work tomorrow however I stupidly tried to do something naughty with my iphone and ended up wiping everything off it! so I have to restore it before bed now :(

I do the same as you bessie and make extra portions. My DH has one of those food flask things to take to work and extra portions of maccy cheese, meatballs, ravioli, etc all get frozen

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 22:05

I got a lot of clip lock boxes in Tesco when they were on offer last year. Ideally I would have BPA free sistema ones but I don't think they do the sizes that I need and they are too pricey.

I use the BPA free sistema ones for ds's lunch and numerous snacks though and they are great. I dishwash them every day and they are still watertight.

carrotsandcelery · 08/01/2012 22:08

redlac I suspect getting it as good as my dmum's has something to do with leaving it on the hob with the lid on for days and days. Maybe it is like blue cheese and tastes better with age Grin
