OP posts:

morning all

dyls gosh. sorry to hear about you nanna and hope you are getting over it and recovering from all ensuing chaos. Good to see you back though

funtime looks like a day for snuggling up with hot chocoalte if you ask me!

well...snow chaos here today...
DS1 , DDs and DH schools closed. I attempted to get to work. Got as far as the hill out of our village only to find it was terrible, with 3 cars stuck across it, and other cars sliding all over trying to turn round to go back...So I abandoned car at side of road and walked back home...

Have been in nice warming food mood though and have made chocolate scones, have bread in the breadmaker and L&P and tomato soup bubbling away on the hobb.
Think I may need to make syrup sponge or similar for after dinner LOL Seems snow is no good for diets - I cant go running and I just want to eat stodge all the time LOL

Will be going out on our new sledges later - which were delivered yesterday in a rare moment of good forward planning my me!

Then will try and keep DC entertained, and prevent them from totally trashing the house...
DH is getting grumpy already...doesn't bode too well...oh well!

swanriver · 30/11/2010 11:03

GrinOFM yes I seem to be craving cheese chocolate and salt, if not eskimo blubber
back from Santa's giftshop making ££££ pennies at school, very proud of myself for turning down coffee in cafe afterwards, and returning to tidy house! Determined this afternoon should be calm and cheerful Hmm

tackling playroom
washingup
laundry
beds

then need to trudge pop to shops again[sigh]

swanriver · 30/11/2010 11:04

Dyls hi, how is student life going?

Makingchanges · 30/11/2010 13:00

Thought about you this morning OFM when saw weather, thought your lot would be home.

Well didn't make it to school today,no chance of getting near Derby from Sheffield in snow. School has just closed at lunchtime anyway. DD's school closed today and GPs not able to get car out of megasteep drive so probably for the best.

Was DDs birthday yesterday so she is having a PJ day and playing with all her new toys whilst I do my uni work that should have been doing at school in a bid to try and catch up.

Have managed a bit of a clean up and some washing though so not all lost - just making sausage sandwiches for lunch -yummy

Hope you are all well and enjoying the snow - DD seems to have cold from snowballing at school tomorrow so no sledging for us.

scattyspice · 30/11/2010 16:19

Hi all. Glad some of you get to join in the snowfest Wink. DC school never closes so still struggling back and forth to school/work by bus/sledge.

dyl sounds like a tough few weeks! hope you can sort something out for dd after Xmas (Angry at your xp)

funtime hope you had a rest today
mc happy birthday dd!
ofm hope you managed to make a decision re nanny.
swan PT school is probably more difficult than no school Hmm.

To do:
wash up
make tea
wash up
make sandwiches
reboot laundry
canc night out on Thurs!!

wendyhappysmile · 30/11/2010 16:25

Hi all
Up for two hours of practice contractions again between 2 and 4 - they never progressed though and disappeared but then of course I couldn't sleep.
Just spent the two hours checking the clock and looking dismally out of the window at the falling snow wondering how anyone would drive to our house in the snow to look after the DC ... now I'll have to go through it all again tonight! Unless I sleep through the night of course without a twinge. I was so disappointed it wasn't happening in the night I could have cried! Looks like a December baby after all!

So sorry ladies, no news yet.

DC school closed today. SIL came over and made a snowman with them otherwise they have played really nicely together all day and been no bother. DH walked to work, only took him 20 minutes. We are lucky he works locally! He doesn't really need to drive except normally (in non baby arrival times) he goes swimming every lunch time.

Right, DS is at swimming with MIL and FIL, kept DD off, her cough is still awful, very chesty. She didn't wake up til half nine this morning¬! Probably do her good to have another day off.

scatty sounds as if you're coping well with snow chaos!

wendy awwww I remember how awful that dissappointment is when everything stops Sad I went through it SO many time with all pregnancies. And it doesn't help when people tell you things like "baby will be here soon enough" or "baby will come when theyre read" or...in my opinion...the absolute worst "whats a few more days after you've waited 9 months" or possibly the slightly more annoying "haven't you had that baby YET???"
Anyway...hang in there. You are doing great.
Sending lots of speedy no-snowy labour vibes your way.

All has deteriorated here...despite several sledging outings all DC now feeling cooped up and taking our frustrations on each other Hmm
am about to start early bath times in the hope that early bed times will follow...

Still pondering the Nanny. Have decided I do like her, and think she would be fab. Just need to do thorough look at figures, including hidden costs etc and work out if we can afford it in real terms....

OK...BBL Grin

Nuttybear · 30/11/2010 17:27

Afternoon just back from work. skimmed over the thread. Wendy maybe tonight!
Lots of snow everwhere else.
AAARGH! Just received an e-mail from school dress rehearsal THURSDAY and still no costume for DS!! he is going to be so mad at me! Will have to go out lunch time in Tooting! He is an ALIEN! in bright coloured top and bottoms BOYS don't wear bright coloured clothes! HELP!
Right now to dash out and get him

OverflowingMum · 30/11/2010 17:28

OH MC thought I'd replied to you earlier...must have imagined it! Yep roads round here just rubbish...hoping I can at least make it to work tomorrow...
Hope you had a good day catching up. Did DD have a nice bday? Hope you're doing OK.

OverflowingMum · 30/11/2010 17:29

nutty PJ tops/bottoms may be easier to find in bright colours? An Alian though LOL what happened to shepherds and donkeys!!

dylsmum1998 · 30/11/2010 18:18

Swan student life is stressfulGrin suspect that may be more due to everything else going on at the same time though.

Wendy fingers crosse for tonight for you so frustrating waiting for a baby

OFM nanny sounds fab solution for me too, but know I can't afford one { Sad wishful thinking emoticon}

Nutty what is the school play- sounds an unusual twist Smile.

MC hows your course going?

today as wwell as building a snowman and sledging I have managed a few odd jobs that have needed doing for ages, I have finally nailed down the edging to the downstairs flooring, hung my mirror, made dd her new dressing gown and made a draft excluder.

Am feeling tired and headachy now, once dc are in bed I need to do some uni work, really all i want to do is go to sleep though Hmm

Nuttybear · 30/11/2010 19:36

OFM Yep Green PJ's it is! DS said he'll be cold so I'm putting Long John underneath!
Dyls Yep! DS lines includes the word chocolate a number of times!!!!

Makingchanges · 30/11/2010 22:33

OFM hope you do manage work tomorrow although I know that schools around you have already started to announce closures and after the volume of snow tonight, not hopeful of leaving the house. Tried to get DD to GPs tonight, got to corner and had to turn back, car wouldn't goup mini hills as so much snow come down and roads gridlocked.

Dyls - I agree with stress between being ill and DH changing jobs, i've fallen behind with uni work and battling to catch up, finding myself constantly working, every night and both days at weekend. Back to uni next week after school placement and have 4 essays in before xmas Shock not had chance to start on any of them!

wendy - Look after yourself and put your feet up whilst you can.

Nutty interesting - Pjs sound a good idea though.

Fully expecting to be at home tomorrow - snow up past number plate on my car and would have to dig it out. DH off to Coventry and don't think he could get out in car so may have to venture on foot / tram to train

swanriver · 30/11/2010 23:08

Day would have gone quite nicely if it hadn't been that I suspected A GAS LEAK in broom cupboard, which meant then I was on tenterhooks as to whether house was going to explode, opened doors and windows [brr], called Gas Board, took everything out of cupboard under the stairs, phoned visiting child's mum...etc. etc.
Anyway NO LEAK after rigorous testing..but that put paid to my nice contented afternoon Hmm Gas board man said sometimes people thought the smell of dead mouse was the smell of gas Shock haven't found mouse yet though Wink

Funny thing was that visiting child's mum also said she smelt gas in the broom cupboard. All very odd. No smell now of course Grin

Terrible tantrum from ds1 because his friend went home early and we couldn't turn on the Wii in case of sparks...

Dyls at least guests have gone. I'm sorry you are feeling so tired - hope kids are being nice to you, and that dd is enjoying her school (and ds too)

escaped to PTA meeting/Xmas fair planning

ds2 being v. dfficult stillSad Ds1 is now endlessly lying about teethbrushing, showering, homeworky, inconsequential but irritating, ds2 constantly screaming when things don't go his way, and poor dd in a state of high emotion just to join in....

Did a bit of organising today, so maybe tomorrow will be better!

swanriver · 30/11/2010 23:14

Wendy - very very annoying.

swanriver · 30/11/2010 23:18

nutty brightly coloured tights?

now must go to bed, as need to get up early to make lunches. School working again, but not school dinners, so need to provide packed lunches every day x 3. Dd sat on hers today and threw it in the bin! (Back at 1.15 so not serious, but it might be tomorrow)

OverflowingMum · 01/12/2010 08:01

morning all

swan Gosh at suspected gas leak - not helpful!

mc yep, it was a mini hill that finished my journey yesterday morning too!

wendy hope you either had a good nights sleep, or have been busy having baby LOL

dyls what about a childminder? I think if you can find a good one they are a good option for school pick ups etc...and some can be quite flexible and not too expensive?
I agree a Nanny is £££ and only really works out worth it for us, as it is a similar cost if we have to pay after school care for 4 of the girls + DS nursery...so makes more sense to have advantages of a nanny!

Well, as if yesterday wasnt bad enough for snow, today is MUCH worse! Reckon there must be at least 10 inches of snow out there. Seems it has snowed most of the night, and it is still coming down thick and fast. Could barely open the back door to let the dog out in the garden, and when she stepped out she dissappeared up to her chin bless her! Then hid under the trampoline refusing to move!

Needless to say it seems pretty much every school in the region is closed
Looking at the drive and our road, I will never even get the car off the drive today, never mind any further. All buses currently suspended. So no way to get to work. Feel a bit stressed about that really as not sure what they will do if none of us doctors make it in...am hoping they may have sent some of the teenagers home...will have to ring later to see, but not much I can do if I can't get there I suppose...

Need to now come up with creative ideas to keep dc entertained...cabin fever is setting in already...HmmI'm gettin ga headache already....

Hope that you're all warm and safe (passes hip flask to those with children off school today).

Wendy - feeling for you. Ds1 was induced 12 days late and ds2 arrived (very quickly Confused) a week late. I had stop/start contractions for ages with both, so sending you a very un-MN hug Smile.

Ds2 up again in the night, I'm beginning to suspect that he's got into a bit of a habit Sad as he just wanted to play. A lovely friend took ds1 to school this a.m. so ds2 is having a sleep and I've got some things done.

Make beds and general tidy done
Unloaded and loaded dishwasher done
Load of washing done and on radiators done
Make leek and potato soup for lunch done
Clean downstairs loo
Hoover downstairs
Make bird feeders with ds1

Haribo anyone Blush?

dylsmum1998 · 01/12/2010 10:32

OFM I wanted a childminder but all the ones that can pick her up on time and drop her of don't work past 5.30pm Shock its bizarre here. I think I am going to have to have a combo of after school club and childminder. See if one of the childminders I spoke to in the summer that said they can collect from after school club, still have vacancies. I really wanted just one carer tho.

WEndy hope you get somewhere soon with bubs,

we have another snow day here. Ds teachers left him some work on the internet portal thing. he has been up trying to do that.

I have
tidied
hoovered
dusted
cleaned bathrooms
sorted dry washing
unlaod washer

Have been up half night iwth dd and her barking cough. Am now feeling very tired and my asthma is not great. So thinking about putting a film on and curling up on the sofa in a bit.

I'll have some haribo please Grin

funtimewincies · 01/12/2010 10:45

Hoover downstairs done
Make bird feeders with ds1

Need to think about heading off to pick ds1 up from nursery soon. I'm hoping that my mum and dad will be here for lunch by then so that I don't have to tog ds2 up and wrestle him into the buggy.

Better go and liquidise the soup - oh, the glamour of it all Grin!

Makingchanges · 01/12/2010 11:12

Morning all.

Yes OFM alot has come down hasn't it. Apparently my MIL told me people were sleeping in their cars and in local shpping centre as couldn't get home last night Shock - not sure about that.

Snow up to the topof my tyres andI have quite a long drive of same height so no chance of moving car. Plus snow up door so daren't open that. DH managed to get a tram to town this morning and is now on train to Coventry.

Going to attempt to write an essay that i've got due with a whingy bored 5 year old today. She wants to go and play with her friends but the snow would be at least mid-thigh on her and she already has earache and a cold so I've told her no. May have to watch dvds and eat chocolate instead.

Hope everyone is surviving the snow and bored children ok.

swanriver · 01/12/2010 12:44

children safely at school today but so was I Hmm
PTA stuff always quite fun though - I forget how nice all the people are

Kind engineer yesterday booked 2nd opinion and there WAS a (hairline)GAS LEAK from meter, so I feel justified in my mad behaviour yesterday (dh was very cross yest afternoon when I summoned him back for 6pm telling him house needed immediate evacuation/failed to supervise ds2's homework/tidy up etc etc) Meter being changed as we speak!

Frustrated as wanted to go out now on errands, but will try and use time to tidy kitchen up a bit/prep supper. Can't get out of kitchen as meter cupboard blocking my route! Lentil and aubergine moussaka I think I planned - so need to boil potatoes, cook lentils etc.

Wendy comfort yourself wth fact that baby is going to come back to cleanest, most organised house ever, full of delicious food.
