Where do you put wet towels

Where does everyone keep wet towels.
changed the radiator in the bathroom so it’s no longer going to look like Dunelm with 4 massive bath sheets on it.
We don’t have an airing cupboard.

I don’t really want them dumped in bedrooms.
what’s the solution. A rail? A rack? Some hooks?

On dry spring/summer days I peg them outside so they dry nice and fresh.
Rainy days or during colder months we hang them over the bannister spread out. I don’t really like this option, but it’s the best way to get them spread out.

LizardyGuts · 05/06/2026 13:11

Some on towel rail, the rest of hooks on the back of the bathroom door. So long as your house is not 12° in winter they'll dry just fine in time for the next shower.

RampantIvy · 05/06/2026 13:12

Heated towel rail in the bathroom.
It helps that we have 2 bathrooms so there are only ever 2 bath sheets in the house bathroom at most.

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/06/2026 13:14

I have hooks on the wall above the radiator. they dry well there year round.

Ours go in the conservatory once the central heating goes off in the summer. (Our bathroom faces north so gets no sun through the window).

FeliciaFancybottom · 05/06/2026 13:19

In the laundry basket, we use them once, then wash them.

Eck1234 · 05/06/2026 13:21

Pop in dryer for ten mins after use and wash after couple of uses

MiddleAgedDread · 05/06/2026 13:27

hooks on the back of the bathroom doors but we only 2, not 4 at a time so they probably dry better.

Are you my teenage daughter ? 😂

CoastalCalm · 05/06/2026 13:43

Mine goes over my en-suite door to dry off

Pinkyponkyp · 05/06/2026 13:47

We all have a bathrobe for our main towel, they are hung on the back of the bathroom door on hooks and always dry

Wash after every use? 😲Do you live in a hotel!

UnimatrixZeroOne · 05/06/2026 13:55

Tumble drier for 10 minutes.

In the summer I peg them outside to dry. In winter i drape them over the edges of the bath (we have a free-standing bath so we can use both ends).
It’s a problem though. I need a heated towel rail but we don’t have one.

Favouritefruits · 05/06/2026 14:18

On the heated towel rail in the bathroom.

Edited

So do ours. DIL in a flat hangs them over the bathroom door or a quick whizz through the tumble dryer.

Has no one heard of towel rails?

oatsotoga · 05/06/2026 14:33

My towel - heated towel rail
DH towel - heated towel rail
DS - heated towel rail
DSS - bedroom floor
DSD - chair in bedroom

DSS and DSD only check the heated towel rail in their bathroom for their towel so if not there they get a new one out and end up with 3 or 4 towels in their preferred storage location.

We have one. But I find those ladder type ones aren’t great for actually drying towels. If just one it can be draped over the top, but any more than that and you’re either folding it or hanging it at just one point so it hangs all gathered, neither of which are great for properly drying.

How wasteful.

its2025 · 05/06/2026 15:06

Either on a hook in the bathroom or on a heated towel rail. There's only two of us so works well. Whichever towel is wettest goes on the towel rail if that makes sense.

If there were more of us in the house I'd probably just get extra hooks - or use radiators in bedrooms.

As for using the tumble drier or washing after every use Shock- Did you guys hear the world is burning??

7238SM · 05/06/2026 16:36

OP- Are you referring to one you've used to dry yourself and is damp or freshly laundered towels which are soaked through?

Damp ones- go on a hook in the bathroom, over the shower rail or back of a chair

Wet, washed ones- on the aga rack in winter or clothes line in summer. I very rarely need to use the dryer.

Recently renovated and the plumber said to never put wet towels on those 'drying' racks in the bathroom because they will corrode and rust eventually. He said they aren't designed for drying, but just warming towels apparently.

Same. I hate having wet towels hanging around the house.

FruAashild · 05/06/2026 16:42

DH and mine plus the bathmat all go on the towel rail in the main bathroom. The DCs towels all go on the radiators in their bedrooms and coordinate with the bedroom colour scheme natch.
