Where do you put wet towels

Where does everyone keep wet towels.
changed the radiator in the bathroom so it’s no longer going to look like Dunelm with 4 massive bath sheets on it.
We don’t have an airing cupboard.

I don’t really want them dumped in bedrooms.
what’s the solution. A rail? A rack? Some hooks?

OP posts:

We have hooks on the bathroom wall (one hook each) and the towels are washed once a week. The DCs are slowly being trained that towels can be worn back to their bedrooms, but must be brought back to hang on the hooks to dry and not left on the floor/bed/chair in their rooms...

Over the bedroom doors or the stair banisters here.

We have one. But I find those ladder type ones aren’t great for actually drying towels. If just one it can be draped over the top, but any more than that and you’re either folding it or hanging it at just one point so it hangs all gathered, neither of which are great for properly drying.

Mine dries 3 perfectly & still keeps the hand towel dry (near it but not on it) and the bath mat (over the side if the bath) dry too.

@IloveJonBonJovi why on earth would you get rid of a radiator & not replace with a large heated towel rail causing yourself this issue. It's like getting rid if your fridge & asking how to keep food cold?!?!

Bedroom radiators.

OP- Are you referring to one you've used to dry yourself and is damp or freshly laundered towels which are soaked through?

Damp ones- go on a hook in the bathroom, over the shower rail or back of a chair

Wet, washed ones- on the aga rack in winter or clothes line in summer. I very rarely need to use the dryer.

Recently renovated and the plumber said to never put wet towels on those 'drying' racks in the bathroom because they will corrode and rust eventually. He said they aren't designed for drying, but just warming towels apparently.

I've had mine 12 years now. No sign of rust/corrosion & even if it does happen I'd just replace it. 12 years plus of drying towels is well worth the cost of replacing it.

I have three questions @JuneAlready

  1. how? Mine barely fits a couple of hand towels and face cloths.
  2. do you have the towel rail on all year?
  3. if yes to two, don’t you find it too hot?

In the laundry basket, we use them once, then wash them.

Such a waste!!!

Wre · Today 16:54

Straight into the washing machine.

A tall wall mounted towel radiator

Having children, driving a car, going on long-haul holidays, eating meat are all awful for the environment. I don't do any of those things so using a towel once and putting in the laundry basket until I have a full load is hardly the worst thing.

Radiator racks. Mine's in the hallway outside the bathroom, DP's is in our bedroom.
I take every opportunity to hang them out in the garden too.
Heated towel rails are overrated and not very effective IME.

That's outrageous.

IsItAllMenopause · Today 17:15

On the banister after use then fold up and leave near bath when dry to use again.

ERthree · Today 17:33

Outside of it's not raining or over the hall radiator if it is wet outside.

Lifestooshort71 · Today 17:40

I've got my own towel rail that I use and MOH hangs his over the shower door. Next morning i move his to a flat towel rack above the heated (in the winter) towel rail that goes up the wall. We have hooks on door for bathrobes

I did warn you!

ToadRage · Today 18:40

We don't have a towel rail so hang them over the bannister above the stairs. It's really the only place appropriate.

Imalittleelf · Today 19:12

Hooks on back of bathroom door.

Failedcrunchymum · Today 19:13

We have a waist-height wall upstairs which separates the landing from the drop off the side of the stairs, we put up a rail there to hang towels.

AllaMova · Today 19:16

On a hook at the back of our bedroom door, if they’re going to be used again. We use each towel twice before washing.

Weve got a fantastic one, floor to ceiling charcoal colour so it doesnt fade or go yellow
Towels go smelly if they dont dry out properly and no one likes a damp towel
It keeps my bathroom lovely and warm too

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · Today 19:20

I hang mine over the banister. The towel rail is heated but it’s too small for bath sheets anyway.

Can't speak for the pp but

  1. I have towel radiators big enough for 4 bath sheets folded in half. It's tall and narrow.
  2. In summer it comes on for 45 minutes a day after we've showered which is plenty of time to dry them.
  3. If the weather is roasting hot then the towel rail won't come on anyway but this is usually a few days a year max and then they dry without the radiator anyway. I don't find the room gets too hot in 45 minutes and I generally don't go back in the bathroom for a few hours anyway.

Are you all coal miners?

PeonyBulb · Today 19:37

Over the landing bannister to dry out then back on the bathroom door hooks.
