If I visited you and came into that I'd probably just think, "Well, that's different," before going into what I assume would be a normally lit room to socialise.

I wouldn't do it in my home but wouldn't care if someone did it in theirs.

I lost a friend in a house fire which started because a lava lamp came into contact with some flammable fabric. They get v v hot. It was a total tragedy. I would never have a lava lamp
in my house.

I'd think I was really dumb for not realising you were running a brothel. Then I'd be concerned that whatever drink you offered was a euphemism for something I'd not choose to do. A "hot ribena"? WTF is that?

Also, in a hallway you need light to go on and off quickly.

And I'd not like the fire escape route to be filled with fire hazards (my neighbour passed away in a house fire, so maybe I'm overly cautious).

That is so terrible to hear. I am so sorry you had that experience. House fires can take hold so quickly. I know any electrical equipment can develop a fault and cause a fire but the lava lamps (certainly the old ones) get so so hot. This one had been left on in a child’s bedroom overnight. I’m sure the OP would choose safe versions and following the rules and I don’t want to put a dampener on a design idea but I can never see a lava lamp without thinking of this disaster.

When the cigarette took hold she just watched (she told me from the afterlife)
