Wait for the pics to load.
saw these on Reddit. Thinking of doing something similar but not sure if I’ll look mad!

I like it

Something different and if the electric points are already there you could easily go back to traditional lights if you wanted too

Would probably be quite dark though

And they would take some time to get going so if practical a timer might be handy

But I would do it, and change in the future if required

I like a single lava lamp but that does look a bit Hallowe'en if I'm honest. And they take a long time to warm up and start swirling when you switch them on.

teatimefortiger · 08/05/2025 20:20

I think I like it!

IdiottoGoa · 08/05/2025 20:21

I’d think there might be students living there

Sofasloth · 08/05/2025 20:21

Have you owned a lava lamp? They get VERY hot. You'd end up burning your face on one, reeling from that into the next one, burning your face on that one and so on down then corridor.

StarTwirl · 08/05/2025 20:22

I love lava lamps so I love it

but it’s a waste in the hallway

quintessentially166 · 08/05/2025 20:22

That’s it’s their taste and it can be changed

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/05/2025 20:22

Not my style but not my house so my opinion doesn’t matter.

Wheech · 08/05/2025 20:23

I love lava lamps but don't they cost a lot to run?

coxesorangepippin · 08/05/2025 20:23

Bit off the wall (ahem) but it's ok

Arlanymor · 08/05/2025 20:24

I think it looks like the start of an episode of Mysteries of the Unexplained - don’t go through the door! But we all have different tastes. If you like it, go for it, but maybe think about how much energy the lamps would consume when on and if it would just make the corridor too dark overall.

ruethewhirl · 08/05/2025 20:24

I think it’s cool! I’d be worried about the lava lamps overheating though, they do seem to get very hot as a pp mentioned.

(Edited to add: they do give off a slightly brothel-ish vibe, though. 😄)

Seeyousoonboo · 08/05/2025 20:24

Looks totally naff sorry OP you did ask!

SkibbityBap · 08/05/2025 20:25

I'd think they were really cool!

SkibbityBap · 08/05/2025 20:27

There is no point in asking other people's opinions because some will like it, some will hate it.
What is important is what YOU like. Its your home and you're the one that lives there, strangers opinions are irrelevant. Don't let anyone put you off having the home that you love. Style is individual.

Lava lamps don’t cost ‘a lot’ to run, but they use the heat of the standard incandescent bulb to run the gel of the lava lamp - probably a 40 watt bulb

But that’s a 40 watt classic bulb running at 40 watts rather than an equivalent LED of 5 to 6 watts - so use 8 times the energy of an energy saving bulb, but a 40watt bulb will take 25 hours to use 1 unit of electricity (40 x 25=1,000)

SpidersAreShitheads · 08/05/2025 20:37

Even if you like the look of it initially, I think there's a very real risk you'd quickly get bored by it.

As PP have said, they don't throw out much light and they take ages to get flowing properly. I think this would quickly become quite frustrating.

I bloody love the house with Halloween decorations up, and feel quite sad when we take them down. But I guarantee if they were up for a month or longer, I'd soon get irritated with the dim lighting and be longing for something more practical.

Divebar2021 · 08/05/2025 20:37

I don’t like them at all but I would be quite curious to see the rest of the house and if I didn’t know you I’d be very intrigued to meet you. It’s not boring and a lot of interiors really really are.

ShowOfHands · 08/05/2025 20:40

I bloody love a lava lamp but it's a bit 'Madam June will see you in the back bedroom now'.

UName38 · 08/05/2025 20:41

Not my taste - I’m not keen on the fluorescent colours). Will the rest of the house be like that? If some “normal” light rooms for people like me go for it.

ByeByeByeee · 08/05/2025 20:41

I love it, but I don't know anything about interior design / decorating etc

zenai · 08/05/2025 20:42

TBH it's giving me brothel vibes.

SmoothRoads · 08/05/2025 20:42

I think they are cool and I also think that the person who lives there has unique tastes. I love it when someone does something different with their home than the minimalist, social media. brown and beige decor.

Jennifershuffles · 08/05/2025 20:43

I'd think it was an unusually clean student house from the 90s

Moveoverdarlin · 08/05/2025 20:44

I would think an eight year old was left in charge of interior design.
