I am genuinely surprised that this has turned into a bunfight - I’ve been on MN for years and seen plenty of similar threads which haven't attracted the same amount of opprobrium.

To be honest, I didn't think of it as punching down because, although the house isn't massive, it must have cost a lot of money to furnish so I took it in the same vein as all the other OTT (I stand by that description) houses I’ve seen posted on here.

But if people don't find it funny, fair enough. I think the furnishings are ridiculous; the owner clearly doesn't or they wouldn't have listed it publicly online.

Oh come on... you were sneery about the woman's personality!

Coconutter24 · 14/02/2024 17:53

It’s not my taste but obviously the owner has done it to their taste, as they should as it’s their home and space to do with what they want. They’ve obviously got more imagination than the generic grey and white we see all over

greglet · 14/02/2024 17:54

@SoupDragon it was a joke. Okay, it landed badly and I hold my hands up to that, but I was actually laughing at the idea of the husband who (presumably) has had very little input into the decor. I didn't actually describe the woman in any way, I don't think.

I found it funny OP
Ignore the fun sponges, this is classic poke fun at MN fodder.
Send those who moan a Biscuit

BigWillyLittleTodger · 14/02/2024 19:02

I always suspect posters who post links to ‘normal’ homes rather than an unusual expensive house they have spotted on rightmove know the person whose house it is, wouldn’t surprise me if in reality this is the OP’s sister in law’s house or a mum at the school gates, I’m presuming it’s somewhere close to where the OP lives otherwise why would they be looking at houses in that area and at that price?

It feels really mean to pick apart someone's home. And its got a snobbish undercurrent too.

Shame on you op.

Agree. Horrible.

nottojog · 14/02/2024 19:12

This is internet trolling. The homeowner may not be named but the home is an identifier to the many who may have visited it. I've seen MNHQ's response - what an awful thread to condone.

BewitchedorBewildered · 14/02/2024 19:14

They listed it online because they are trying to sell it, not to be sneered at.

Yes, anyone who knows the family.
, anyone who know the street, any of those people could easily be on here and see the thread. It’s not exactly a tiny chance the family will find out.

Oh I see. You have the sort of friends who like to post stuff sneering and mocking at others, so you thought, ‘ha ha what a jolly jape, I’ll post it further to mock these people too, ha ha, what a lark’

And now it’s backfired, and people are deriding you and not the home owners, your only defense is, ‘well other people do it too!’

WOW
Definitely not my taste but someone has put a lot of work into making it into a home and keeping it spotless. I'm sure there will be someone out there who'll love it and I hope that it sells quickly.

And you thought it was a good idea to post someone’s much loved home, that is very identifying, and without their permission choose to judge and slate their home? How fucking tragic for you op, that this is your idea (and your so called friends) of fun entertainment. At someone else’s expense.

DillDanding · 15/02/2024 07:30

This house is now on Twitter. Everyone is taking the piss over there.

EffieeBriest · 15/02/2024 07:49

A lot of performative reverse snobbery going on @greglet
Over the years various working class celebrities/politicians have been mocked cruelly by posters on here. There was one about Angela Rayner not that long ago which was vicious so a bit of hypocrisy going on there.
People love a pile on and to feel virtuous. I guess the seller could be on MN and might feel pretty offended. On the other hand it will make a great daily mail story.

EffieeBriest · 15/02/2024 07:50

It was on Reddit last night actually. Makes me wonder whether it’s a weird attempt to get publicity.

greglet · 15/02/2024 08:49

🤷‍♀️ I still think it's funny. Plenty of other people do too, it seems.

@solidarityname Don't really feel the need to defend myself tbh. It's clear from the mixed bag of responses on here that some people find it funny and some don't. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.

OP posts:
BIWI · 15/02/2024 11:06

You are, of course, entirely within your rights to find it funny @greglet

But posting about it and sneering about it on a public forum is a different thing altogether and, as lots of us have said, is very mean spirited and unpleasant.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but, if it's a negative one, many have the decorum to keep it to themselves. Clearly others don't.
