My eyes! 😵

That’s exactly what I was thinking!! I actually started squinting! 😂

This house clearly belongs to someone who loves their home and invests time in making it exactly as they want it. I genuinely hope it’s enjoyed. I get the impression it is. I’m not enjoying the undercurrent of shaming people who might not have the finances and middle class aesthetic sensibilities needed to replicate a home that would meet the approval of people on this board. There is a family this house is a home to and they might read this.

whatsappdoc · 14/02/2024 15:54

Aww! A happy person lives here. Love seeing 'homes' as opposed to 'houses'.

BIWI · 14/02/2024 15:55

@solidarityname

Whether the owner reads this or not isn't the point

Isn't it?

The point that lots of us have made is how unpleasant and sneery the OP (and many others responding) are. There's every chance that the owner of that house - or someone that knows them - will read this thread. Why not? Mumsnet is huge these days.

Just imagine how you'd feel if someone was on here with a thread mocking your home.

I never said this.

You need to read back to find out who did and tag them.

BIWI · 14/02/2024 16:02

Apologies @solidarityname! It was poster @paleontologist, and you were quoting them.

Very sorry to tar you with the wrong brush!!! Blush

That is chavtastic
You can imagine the people who live there can't you? Blimey.

You can imagine the people who make comments such as yours. Gordon Bennett.

No problem : )

Brightredtulips · 14/02/2024 16:22

Please remember, this is someone's home. Be kind.

TeaGinandFags · 14/02/2024 16:38

The chaise longue in the conservatory has my cat's name on it!

As others have said, not to my taste but whoever owns this house has poured her heart and soul into it. I say, good on her!

ErrolTheDragon · 14/02/2024 16:41

I feel as though I've just eaten several bags of marshmallows.Confused

It's the contrast with the stark, flowerless back yard (can't call it a garden) that really gets me.

guineverehadgreeneyes · 14/02/2024 16:44

Genuine question: why does no-one comment on a middle-class but "interestingly" styled house that it is "spotless"?

You see this in media articles, too. The writer will say, for example: The bereaved parents invited me into their spotless council house...

You don't see: The victim's father, a retired solicitor, invited me into his spotless living room.

Totally agree and I'm very disappointed mumsnet don't remove this thread. Can you imagine the family seeing this post and seeing strange people mocking their home?
This is the answer I received from @admin @mumsnet after reporting this thread.
"Hi there,
Thanks for flagging this one to us. Ideally we'd prefer if this sort of post were challenged as part of the thread itself rather than deleted - Mumsnet is a discussion site first and foremost. In the absence of any guideline-breaking posts being reported we'll let the thread continue but please do report any further concerns as we are always very happy to take a look.
Not everyone is comfortable challenging posts, of course so for posters who do not want to view content that offends or upsets them, which we quite understand, we do provide a 'hide' button so that threads might be removed from the content they will see.
Best,
Hope
MNHQ"

At least they have the courage to have the things they like rather than the dull trend followers who don't have a mind of their own.

It's absolutely not to my taste but I'd rather see this then the tedious grey and white soulless houses that are so prolific on Rightmove.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/02/2024 17:00

Then again for the sake of balance- I have spied posts on hugely OTT 'wealthy ' houses- and everyone feels happy to pile in there. That person too may be a mumsnetter or their mum or daughter might be

I think maybe it's better not to hammer people's taste in homes - unless someone has actually posted asking for advice. Many of these homes put up randomly will be identifiable to 'someone' on here

Snugglemonkey · 14/02/2024 17:04

Petrine · 14/02/2024 09:34

It’s obviously someone’s much loved home. It’s impeccably clean and consistently styled.

I think it will sell quickly as you could just move straight in.

I don’t like the way this has been torn to pieces by people here. Obviously the OP put it up knowing that would happen. Shame on you.

This. It is just mean.

Uricon2 · 14/02/2024 17:05

I do think it is fundamentally more unpleasant than the threads about multi million star mansions with "out there" decor (which the owners will know is "out there" and paid ££££ for)

It's a normal house, there are family photos around and it makes me feel very uncomfortable that the owner might stumble across this on here or God forbid, if it's picked up by the Mail et al.

BIWI · 14/02/2024 17:19

I got a very similar reply @butterandmilk

I really don't think this kind of thread is 'In The Spirit'.

Lavenderandbrown · 14/02/2024 17:35

The house is listed on a public site with photos and is open to public viewing. I did note several items I have puzzled by which always always show up in the the house trends site…”door knocker on chair back” and “designer” rugs and bedding and walls that talk are on display here. Decorating is so very personal but selling your house is not.

Benicebenicebenice · 14/02/2024 17:39

ssd · 14/02/2024 09:21

It feels really mean to pick apart someone's home. And its got a snobbish undercurrent too.

Shame on you op.

Agreed

Nanny0gg · 14/02/2024 17:41

JDJT · 14/02/2024 10:00

Not to my taste but it is presented well (it's neat and tidy, and not plain!)

Neat and tidy??? That doesn't touch a description for that house

I don't think there's a speck of dust or errant fingerprint in the place!

greglet · 14/02/2024 17:45

I am genuinely surprised that this has turned into a bunfight - I’ve been on MN for years and seen plenty of similar threads which haven't attracted the same amount of opprobrium.

To be honest, I didn't think of it as punching down because, although the house isn't massive, it must have cost a lot of money to furnish so I took it in the same vein as all the other OTT (I stand by that description) houses I’ve seen posted on here.

But if people don't find it funny, fair enough. I think the furnishings are ridiculous; the owner clearly doesn't or they wouldn't have listed it publicly online.

Why are people having a pile on. I mean literally rushing in to say what’s been said already. Talk about kicking a man when he’s down. Shame on the posters piling on.
