It’s not what I’d choose to have for my house, but if you’re cooking I certainly wouldn’t refuse to sit at it!

Seaside3 · 11/02/2024 15:16

@custard3point14 what flooring is under your carpet? If wood you might be in luck to create the look I shared. Or try it woth a lovely big oriental rug in shades of pink and rust, with wooden chairs.

AlohaRose · 11/02/2024 15:18

Well, to be honest, the table fits with the chairs and carpet, but the overall effect is not great. You seem to have gone for the grey, office look which is so popular in new homes nowadays, but which is going to date really quickly. I’m not really sure why anybody would think that glittery carpet anywhere in their house was a good look, is the style here in keeping with the rest of your home? I think you need to add a lot of accessories, including covering up most of that table surface, and then see how you feel, but please don’t just add more black/white/grey corporate-style prints and pots.

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 15:14

@zump like this?

That looks like crushed velvet, which to me is an style for evenings. Will you be using the table mainly for dinner parties/evenings? If it's going to be used for the daytime, maybe look for something in cotton instead.

I think everything new always looks "wrong" in our houses initially. It takes a while for our eyes to get used to things. So take your time, have a play with different colours/runners/soft furnishings.

It's marble

On the bright side, you'll be able to make cracking pastry, temper chocolate or set up Custard Point's Rock Shop with it.

Just need to suspend a pulling hook from the ceiling somewhere.

Seaside3 · 11/02/2024 15:19

@EasternStandard I know, marble is actually one of my favourite materials. Just trying h to work out the best way to make the most of the rest of the room!

EmpressSoleil · 11/02/2024 15:19

Conservatories can be freezing in winter so I don't think the carpet was a terrible idea. Will help to keep some warmth in.

Don't waste money on changing the table. A runner, as a pp suggested, and a more statement centre piece rather than that poor lonely candle! Also plants, as another pp said, some greenery in the room will help a lot. It looks a bit much right now because it's all that's in there but you can make it work by making the room more homely.

gano · 11/02/2024 15:20

It's very passe, with all the grey, marble and the chrome/mirrored legs.

Ilovemyshed · 11/02/2024 15:21

Its very "Towie" sorry

Oh I thought it an excellent suggestion, you picked something really nice

DistinguishedSocialCommenator · 11/02/2024 15:21

It's hideous, honestly as I thought, WTF as soon as I saw it

At times stuff looks different in different settings. I guess you spent all that money in order not to cover it.

It may look better with dark wood flooring, just an idea

ClematisRock · 11/02/2024 15:22

Eek!

Carpet is not great, sorry.

specialk9 · 11/02/2024 15:22

I think it's the chairs. If they were cream it would look much better.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 11/02/2024 15:23

It's going to come in handy for making pastry.

houseydnc · 11/02/2024 15:24

Looks like something a traveller would have, so does the carpet.

kittensinthekitchen · 11/02/2024 15:27

Can you post another photo please OP, in daylight? It's hard to properly see the colours

Sittingtoolong · 11/02/2024 15:28

Mate, it's just a table. Plenty of room to have people around eating and chatting and having a lovely time. Don't sweat it! Chairs look comfy too!

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 15:29

@Sittingtoolong you sound like a nice friend to have :-)

I think it all looks beautiful. I love the table, chairs and carpet. The conservatory looks great!

cornflower21 · 11/02/2024 15:30

Hideous and tacky.

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 15:32

Maybe something like these?

I was going to say that but felt I could not,

With reference to my post a few mins ago - we noted years ago in another house we lived in that the carpert looked great, we replaced everything in the room inc decor and then the carpet looked not great

As I said, things look different in different places and I've suggested a dark wood floor to go with this

This.

Some people are just being nasty for the sake of it. And, in one case, showing their bigotry.

LadyBird1973 · 11/02/2024 15:36

Bright sides - when you die, you already have the marble for your tombstones Wink

FredaFox · 11/02/2024 15:38

It's a bit live laugh love to me
Needs something to waken the room its all blurring into one especially with the table
