Just got a new table for our newly renovated conservatory. DH loves it.. but it's hideous isn't it?

It's probably just that you have the table with no covering on it so the marble top is looking a bit harsh . Perhaps just pop a table cloth on until you get used to it ? I imagine you have spent a lot of money on new furnishings so I wouldn't change it again just because it doesn't fit the taste of a group of strangers .

It’s absolutely bloody awful. And the chairs. Everything. Hideous.

The windows look nice.

mondaytosunday · 11/02/2024 15:41

Yes, it is.

NancyPickford · 11/02/2024 15:42

Perhaps during the last days of the Roman Empire it might have been fine.

NancyPickford · 11/02/2024 15:43

Do you not like colours, OP?

FredaFox · 11/02/2024 15:46

😂 that's made me laugh way more than it should

Op I think you need some colour and to tone down some of the grey

In daylight

This table is awful isn't it..?

It is not to my style at all but based on the chairs and carpet it’s exactly what I would expect to see.

Livelovebehappy · 11/02/2024 15:50

It’s not my taste, but I don’t think it’s hideous. I’m sure you’d find some of my furniture hideous. I love it, but I can tell from some peoples faces that other dont like it, but I do, and so doesn’t really bother me. Maybe you’ll grow to like it over time?

HoweverWeare · 11/02/2024 15:51

New photo. It’s still awful. 😢 Sorry, OP.

LadyBird1973 · 11/02/2024 15:53

It's better in daylight to be fair. You need something other than grey in there though OP. It lacks personally at the moment.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/02/2024 15:54

You just need to soften it with a runner and table mats. I think it will be fine after that. More of the same grey as the chairs so it ties in better.

EasternStandard · 11/02/2024 15:54

I’d leave it

Spend considerably less on some fresh flowers like the pic below

Sparklyhat · 11/02/2024 15:54

Some people are being mean here! I love it! Honestly I love the carpet and the chairs and the table looks really nice especially in the daytime photo, I love that it's white with the grey furnishings

Tiddlywinks63 · 11/02/2024 15:55

It looks slightly better in daylight but I don’t understand why you thought carpet was a good idea? Unless you have good heating/ventilation it’s going to get mouldy and damp at some point. Is it laid over concrete?
And it’s very likely to fade unless you have blinds.

Spaghettieis · 11/02/2024 15:55

Tbh I think the chairs are worse. The marble is nice, it’s only the mirrored legs which are a bit blingy and you don’t really see them that much with the chairs tucked in. I’d get some chairs which aren’t quite as grey and without the studs, probably not fully upholstered. That would make it look more like a dining room and less like a boudoir as well.

NewKingontheBlock · 11/02/2024 15:58

It looks better in daylight, you need to work with the table and chairs so I would honestly get rid of the grey carpet and have some wood or wood effect flooring to warm it up a bit, add some blinds to soften the room (not grey) and add some greenery in the form of plants, a nice real big plant in the middle of the table and a large plant by the French doors would soften the overall look.

NoStarsTonight · 11/02/2024 15:58

I don’t like it but then other people wouldn’t like my shabby chic twinkly shit. But as you aren’t sure take on board some of the suggestions and add some other colours maybe?
like a pp said - space to sit with your friends etc it’s just a table.
as an aside, what is wrong with carpet in a conservatory? No different to coming in from the garden straight into a lounge. Surely makes it warmer and I love a room with loads of windows.

isthismylifenow · 11/02/2024 15:59

I've looked past the carpet now (apologies I didn't know that was a normal thing, I thought of conservatories as an extension of the garden) but I see it's a dining room.

The table looks sturdy and will last forever (assuming it's real marble), you can surely change the legs at some point. But isn't marble cold, which defeats the point of putting down a carpet to keep heat in?

It needs some other colour. But I don't like grey to be fair as it looks drab to me.

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 15:50

In daylight

Now the table looks ok as wel as chairs but the carpet looks awful

Only posting honestly as always OP - your place, your choice

Easterness · 11/02/2024 16:03

Pop out to B and Q. Nice big plant in each of the far corners of the room in natural coloured pots. Big bowl of hyacinths on the table in a neutral bowl. Will make all the difference

Houseplanter · 11/02/2024 16:05

Daylight is better.

maybe a big rug under the table?

Definitely need some plants too

MadeOfAllWork · 11/02/2024 16:05

I think the problem is the chairs. Change them for something not upholstered.

FredaFox · 11/02/2024 16:06

Daylight is loads better
I actually think it's the carpet, it looks too dark
Add some pops of colour to the room

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 16:07

Yes sorry.. it's a conservatory or it was, but we've converted it into a makeshift dining room. New roof etc on it, it was tiles under the carpet
