I've just read through the whole thread 😳 at some of the comments.

Op I like the table and chairs, I love your carpet and if you get something big to go in the middle of the table it'll really finish it off. The colours on the wall are fine too.

This table will be very useful for your family, it's easily cleaned, you won't be shining glass or worrying about scratches on wood. Do not cover it with a table cloth, show it off, it's there to be used and enjoyed and it's a good, solid material. It's big enough to fit your family, your DH can sit at it comfortably and work. There's a beautiful view and plenty of light.

You don't want a tiny little old fashioned wooden table in that sized room, with mismatched chairs that you end up having to use cushions because they are so small and uncomfortable.

Your table will work well for you, it can be used for day to day activities and dressed up for nice meals.

@custard3point14 im sorry you have had some really horrible comments must have made for hard reading💐
anyway my two penny worth, I’d go voiles if you can’t afford Roman blinds at the moment, add a table runner a vase of fresh flowers (you can get these very cheaply in lidl/Aldi) a few nice houseplants, maybe a couple of thin throws that you could put on the back of couple of the dining chairs, so that it softens the room a bit, I think the rule of interior decorating 60/30/10 is quite useful so 60%main colour 30%secondary colour10%accent colour, so in your case grey possibly sage or dark green with touches of pink.

Not my taste but surely if you don't care for it and can't return it then a table is easily fixed by a tablecloth. I'd have a america cloth/pvc one for everyday on there then you won't care if the kids get felt tip/crayons/pasta sauce on it and a fabric one in a colour you like and nice place mats/ candles etc for if you want to posh it up for guests? Id worry about the marble that anything dropped slightly or glasses tipped over on it would break really easily. Doesn't feel very child friendly to me, a tablecloth would fix that.
I think fabric chairs are liable to get grubby easily if they are in everyday use for a family but I don't think there is a solution other than put up with it and replace them in due course.

I like the grey thing, I'm a bit sad to find it's already dated when I've yet to get around to doing any decorating myself 😅. Personally if I like something I'll still like it in 10 years, I'm not a big fan of following trends for the sake of it.

Onlyvisiting · 12/02/2024 19:38

I like the suggestions of changing the pink to teal. If you can't return it then the only thing I'd be willing to change again is paint and some accessories. No way in hell I would waste the kind of money on changing a new carpet or replacing brand new chairs!
I also think it being a family room not an occasional dining room for guests changes things. Pile up some storage boxes of toys and scatter lego and some children's drawings all over and it will have a very different look to being new and empty when all you see is the furniture! Let it look lived in for a while and see how you feel then.

Anjea · 12/02/2024 20:00

Definitely don't put vertical blinds in, get voiles if money is an issue.

Vertical blinds look too office like.

DillDanding · 12/02/2024 20:07

Vertical blinds are a complete abomination and teal as an accent colour has never looked anything other than horrendous.

Borgonzola · 12/02/2024 20:50

Ohhhh this reminds me of the chairs with knockers post of a few weeks back Grin

So on the same page about teal.

Personally I’d do the walls in farrow and ball French grey, you can get it colour matched for Dulux or valspar. It will work with the grey carpet, but move the room to greens, it’s got grey undertones but is more green on the wall. It will also work well in the room type. Bringing the garden in, And is warm. I’ve got it in one of our rooms and it’s lovely.

id then add very pale silver voiles. I think the op needs to work with what she’s got, and the grey carpet and chairs, needs to be brought in, and pink is just too hard in that setting if she can’t get some funky blinds. Pink, white or green voiles won’t work.

id then add big green plant, one large floor standing one in the corner, one on the table.

overall she can do that very cheaply and it would I think look much more finished and unified.

French Gray is much more green than grey, but characterfully flits between the two depending on the light and time of day. Available in-store and online.

these sort of blinds would warm the room up a bit - and suitable for a conservatory. and cheap.

and large plants in a couple of the corners - preferably a lush one hanging somewhere too

It’s really far from cheap, for all those windows. I just ordered another two roman blinds, about 4 foot by 3 foot, in the finnestone velvet peacock from then, so 10 quid more than the ones you linked and the price was 330 quid. She would need 10- 15 times as much.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/02/2024 21:41

30m of ceiling-floor voile, bottom weighted, costs around £160 from Amazon (£5.60 ish per metre width).

That's a lot cheaper than vertical blinds - and versatile, as they will go in any window.

Sue White. Plain Lead Weighted Voile Net Curtain. Multiple Drops. Sold By The Metre (81" Drop (206cm)) : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen

Add in some wires, which are also far cheaper than poles and will fit multiple shapes and configurations and it's sorted for daytime privacy, diffused light and looking less greenhouse-like for a relatively small sum - and I just picked a random height and length, rather than what the OP may or may not actually need.

In daylight

It looks fine, OP. Absolutely fine .

FiveShelties · 12/02/2024 21:44

Bloody hell OP, you have took some stick on here. It never ceases to amaze me that people think awful rude comments, then type them and then actually post them.

Enjoy your home.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 12/02/2024 21:50

itsjustturbulance · 12/02/2024 14:05

It's dull. Everything is grey with a random bit of pink on the walls.

Very 2016.

Not to my taste, and a bit blingy for me!

So why the fuck do you feel the need to comment then ?

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 12/02/2024 22:43

Some people's comments are horrible and harsh, would love to see their designer homes. Your home is lovely and as others suggested maybe some voiles for the windows and a few plants.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 13/02/2024 12:50

Personally I would have the walls a light summer sky blue, get a matching blue pot with something like a peace lily in it for the table and a couple of large free standing plants where they won't be in the way.
I think that would look quite restful and the plants would absorb the ions from the lap top.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

D20 · 13/02/2024 16:48

I saw your photos earlier and saw some photos of conservatories with similar colours - both use brown/natural materials to elevate the look. Those natural woven blinds a PP mentioned would go nicely but you can get larger blinds you’d probably be able to cut to size from IKEA or similar quite cheaply. The one with grey tiles as similar to your carpet and the other similar to your original tiles (if you left them down and carpeted over you might be able to use the carpet in another room?

@custard3point14 you have your very own home that you work hard to furnish. It is warm, friendly and it fits you as a family. Ignore us all here. It’s YOUR HOME! Haters gonna hate. Some are probably jealous you could afford it. You do you!
